We exercised due diligence and interviewed 3 companies.  One was less expensive but had pedantic ideas that would deliver bathrooms no different than a mid-grade hotel.  The other had design ideas but we did not have comfort that the knowledge was there to implement them.  The meeting with Kitchen Bath Mart was clear from the start.  We met with Joe Dhamer who supplied excellent ideas and it was clear that he knew every benefit and challenge of suggested projects.  The many positive reviews on Angie?s list gave us comfort to proceed.
Joe said that Kitchen Bath Mart would only use good products and do good work, but that products come in multiple price ranges as do the clients budgets.   Therefore he would work with us with levels of  good, better or best depending on our
budget.  It was clear that none of the choices would sacrifice quality of product or craftsmanship.  We opted for something in the better to best range.   The initial project was to complete one plumbed powder room and  completely remodel a guest bath (exchange bath tub with shower and much more).  What we liked is that Joe listened to what we wanted and worked with that.  Only when we asked for his guidance did he expound, and each time we asked we were glad we did because we would not have envisioned the improved ideas he had. We were pleased that we could see products first hand in the Palatine and Niles
showrooms.
As the initial project moved along, we were so pleased with the design ideas, we decided to add remodel features to our master bath as well.  It was a good experience from start to finish.  We had no worries about execution and no worries that we would be saddled with problems.   When any problem came up, Joe stepped in to say it would be taken care of.  Today we look at our bathrooms and smile.  We are happy with function and we are happy with design.  There cannot be a better recommendation than that.

There is no company that is as great to work with and is as knowledgeable, and trustworthy as KBM. They can do high end or budget minded remodeling - whatever you need. They don't push you into decisions, but are fabulous at offering suggestions based on their expertise, and that's what we all need! GREAT COMPANY!

My experience with them was absolutely terrific.  It went excellent.  They were very responsive.  They cleaned up every day.  Their work was excellent.  They finished the job close to the targeted date.  The price was typical.

We worked with the K&B location in Palatine on Northwest Highway.
Our kitchen project overall went very well and took excactly 3 weeks to complete (as quoted) which is impressive.  We had heard horror stories about kitchens taking upwards of a month or more to complete, but this was not the case for us.
The project not only was completed on schedule, but also on budget.  There were no changes or suprises in the final quote.  The contractor was punctual every day.  Our garage where items were stored was cleaned up daily and debris was removed promptly by the K&B crew.  The contractor cleaned up his work area daily, was careful in our house, worked efficiently, was knowledgeable, experienced, and hard working.  There were a couple of small glitches along the way as with any project, but nothing that some communication couldn't clear up and if needed, K&B was responsive to any concerns and offered up a satisfactory remedy.  When our cabinets were going to be delayed for a day or two, somehow K&B managed to get the manufacturer's semi truck to personally deliver the cabinets to our front door the day they were slated to be installed.
K&B was interested in feedback at the end of the job and came to inspect the project during the 3 weeks.  Joe Dahmer at K&B was very helpful in making suggestions to our cabinet configuration which to this day we are happy to have taken his suggestions.  He is very knowledgeable about their product offering and what it takes to make a kitchen functional.  (In other words, he knows his business.)
Our kitchen was actually the last piece of our remodel.  They also did 2 and 1/2 baths for us from 2008 to 2010.  They have completely remodeled our entire townhouse and the workmanship is holding up very well.

I was very happy with the lead person that we went through.  He was very customer service oriented.  They were mostly willing to work with me on pricing and everything except for the countertops, which is why I went with someone else for that.  I didn’t care for their middleperson and we were able to get the same product for less from the same store, so we went to a different countertop party.  We were happy with the contractor, but I don’t think he is with the company anymore.  I still call him once in a while when I have a problem to inspect a cabinet or something.  As far as customer service, their followup is excellent.  I have had a drawer pull that didn’t work properly.  They were quick to send me a new part and come and fix it.  It is really good.  If something doesn’t work right, they really respond very quickly even 3 years after.  Their price was a little higher than it needed to be.  I would probably use them again for getting a quote.

They did a great job on the project and we were very happy with the service. They were a little high in price, but you get what you pay for. They gave us great tips on the design process and the job was supervised throughout the whole process. George, the project manager, was very nice and made sure we were very happy with the job. I would highly recommend them and would use them again if I needed something else done.

Kitchen & Bath Mart (KBM) was very helpful in designing and installing my new kitchen. KBM listened to my ideas and gave sound design advice (although they did not anticipate every design detail, such as exposed undercabinet lighting, which needed to be corrected later). KBM started work on the project almost on time (two days late) and the original project was completed within 3 weeks. The workmanship was very good, although the two men who worked on the project were not always detail-oriented. I carefully inspected the work every night and pointed out particular issues requiring correction the next day; they were always very responsive. KBM was sensitive to the need to keep the area clean, although the final cleanup was less than perfect.

We were very satisifed with their work. George was extremely helpful in helping us pick out pieces and assisting with the design for the bathrooms. We were very pleased overall. They stand behind their work, so if something needed to be fixed they were more than gracious to come back and do so.

They were great. They did a blueprint of our bathroom and showed it us before they started. Eli, the man who did the work, was excellent. He worked all day, he came with everything he needed each day. Each day he did exactly what he said he would do. Dennis, the owner, worked with me on everything that I needed. Eli was so excellent, he gutted the entire bathroom in 1 day, he didn't dilly dally. He did a great job at keeping the rest of the house clean and even tented off the other rooms. He went above and beyond to explain things to me, even on projects that we were doing ourselves. The people inside the office were great. When I did have a doubt about the tile, the owner personally came to explain things to me and showed me what the final look would be. The only interruption in the work was our new shower door had a crack, that was not the fault of Kitchen & Bath Mart and they were great about explaining everything to me. I would definitely work with them in the future, I highly recommend them. We are completely satisfied with their service.

The job took about 4 hours. Eli ,the installer, was meticulous. He wanted to make sure the work was perfect. The granite looking laminate counter was spectacular. The faucet was a bit pricey but it is a quality product. This is the second time that I have used this company and for quality service they can't be beat. The only issue I had was some missed communication about paying by check or credit card. Also, please be aware that labor charges are by the hour.

We weren't sure what would work with the rest of the bathroom so George came up with a design that did. When the work began the installer (Jim) showed up when they said he would and was consistent every day. He was skilled, personable, and considerate. There was attention to detail by him and everyone else involved. Communication was excellent. When someone said something would be done - even little things - it was. These people know what they're doing.

The 3rd party who fabricated and installed performed very well but so did K&B Mart. Joe Dhamer and his staff were responsive, pro-active and reliable. Their's was not the lowest bid but the customer service was well worth the additional cost. When the 3rd party was late for the measuring appointment which had to be rescheduled, Joe pushed them to finish the countertop faster to make up for the delay. Joe was also knowledgeable about the material I'd chosen and offered suggestions that helped me make decisions about the final product design.

ONE THING THAT THIS FIRM THAT DOES DIFFERENT FROM MOST IS THAT THEY DON'T GENERALLY QUOTE LABOR CHARGES IN ADVANCE, BUT RATHER AN HOURLY RATE. THIS IS PROBABLY FAIRER TO BOTH SIDES, BUT YOU ARE BEARING SOME RISK AGREEING TO THIS, IF THERE ARE MAJOR UNDISCOVERED PROBLEMS. THEY WERE GREAT IN PLANNING THE REMODELING, AND IN DOING THE WORK, AND DID NOT OVERCHARGE US IN LABOR FOR THE WORK DONE OR COME UP WITH UNNECESSARY ADDITIONAL WORK. MY PROBLEM WAS GETTING THEM TO SCHEDULE IT. AT THE TIME OF THE ORDER, THEY TOLD US THEY'D INSTALL IN ABOUT 6 WEEKS. THEY CALLED TO SCHEDULE TWO WEEKS LATE - NOT BAD. BUT THEY WANTED TO DO IT THE NEXT DAY, AND AS IT HAPPENED, WE WERE LEAVING TOWN. PERHAPS TO PUNISH US, THEY THEN STALLED ANOTHER FOUR WEEKS ON RESCHEDULING THE INSTALLATION, AND ONLY THEN, WHEN PUSHED HARD WITH REPEATED PHONE CALLS. VERY ANNOYING, AND VERY FOOLISH. WE HAVE TWO OTHER BATHROOMS THAT NEED MAJOR OVERHAULS INCLUDING EXPENSIVE TILE WORK; WE WILL NOT USE THEM AGAIN.
Response from Kitchen & Bath Mart
"IN THE MATTER OF LABOR, SMALLER JOBS SUCH AS THIS ONE ARE BILLED ON A TIME AND MATERIALS BASIS. WE DO NOT CHARGE FOR TRAVEL TIME AND A JOB LIKE THIS DOES NOT TYPICALLY HAVE ANY UNDISCOVERED PROBLEMS EXCEPT MAYBE A SUPPLY SHUT OFF WHICH IS FROZEN, IN WHICH CASE THE CUSTOMER WOULD BE BILLED FOR THE SHUT OFF AND THE LABOR. ALL IN ALL NOT A BIG DEAL IF IT DOES OCCUR. REGRETFULLY, SMALLER JOBS GET SCHEDULED BETWEEN THE FULL SCALE PROJECTS AND THEREFORE TIMING CAN BE DIFFICULT, I AM SURE THE CLIENT WOULD NOT WANT AN INSTALLER TO LEAVE HIS JOB IN THE MIDDLE OF CONSTRUCTION TO GO ON ANOTHER. WE DON'T START A JOB UNTIL PREVIOUS JOBS ARE SQUARED AWAY. WE WOULD NOT INTENTIONALLY STALL ON ANY CLIENT TO PUNISH THEM FOR NOT BEING AVAILABLE, IF WE DID, I DON'T THINK WE WOULD STILL BE AROUND. I AM GLAD THAT BESIDES SCHEDULING, EVERYTHING ELSE WAS OF GOOD QUALITY. SORRY FOR THE REPEATED CALLS, THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THAT ONE BUT WE HAVE MADE SOME CHANGES SINCE 'O3 TO BETTER COMMUNICATE WITH OUR CLIENTS."
