There was no contract since it was a friend of a friend.. There was miscommunication about colors and whether the shutters were included in the bid. The agreement was 1/2 down and 1/2 on completion.. Before they picked up the siding they asked for another $2000 to allocate funds!? I gave it to them.. The work has been poor from the beginning.. Starter strips to hold the siding were not attached, trim pieces fall short or are left too long.. Foam insulation was used around the windows. Caulking has gaps or is already cracked and done poorly. Vents they purchased do not fit the holes of former vents. Trim pieces are cut too short and pieced together. The job was to take two weeks, but when we were going into the fifth week I terminated their service and let the General Contractor who hired them go also.. At time of termination I asked for receipts for the job they say they have $7000 in, (where two separate contractors told me there would only be a total of $5200 in materials at most). They have not given those to me. I also asked for the $2000 back.. The General Contractor, Keith Melick of Yorkville said I would not be getting it back and is now suing me for what he says is 95% of completion of the job.
