He was a great guy to get to know I had never met a guy before, But apparently he's 20 plus a year veteran electrical veteran. He was able to find a problrm right away and get me back up and running in those two bathroom locations with a new look on ourselves since we could see ourselves with additional light now. Very pleased with the work that he did

We called Mako electric because we had a fire hazard with our electric box. Nick came out on Aug 17th and did about half the work and asked for 80% of payment. We were IDIOTS and agreed, thinking we could trust them enough to come back and finish the job. It felt like they were trying very hard to not come back. We had to hound them down to get any kind of response or updates. It was also impossible to reach out to them. Both his number and his assistant's number gave the "no longer in service" dial, so we couldn't leave a voicemail. I was 6 months pregnant at this time... they caused us so much stress. Nick never took care of the fire hazard, he ended up doing unnecessary work and charged us for work and material we didnt need (found this out by another electrician. We didnt need to upgrade to 200 amps or move the panel from the 2nd story to the first). September 12th we FINALLY got a response. They said we had to wait until October 3rd because the only com Ed person assigned to our job was out of town. Sounded weird at the time but they had our money so we agreed to wait. Meanwhile our electric box is sizzling. On September 28th I ask what's going on and remind them of the urgency with our fire hazard. They said they needed to wait a few days to get things notarized because their bond was denied. They said they would let us know. October 5th comes and nothing. I ask what's going on, no response. After multiple emails, they finally responded 5 days later saying they would call us. They then inform us that they wanted us to fill out a permit because they weren't able to. We started to get an uneasy feeling from them and doubted Nick's work. They were dragging their feet and there was no reason it took 3 months to get a clear answer. We hired another electrician and he finished the work within a week. That's when we found out we were given a bad circuit panel (the main breaker was broken). Only half of our house was powered because of that. We had to buy a new one. Nick was missing for 3 hours on the day he did work for us, he said he had to drive very far to get this specific brand electric panel, but that was untrue, because we bought the same one 15 minutes away at home depot. We still paid for those hours of labor. We were initially quoted $1500 but they ended up quoting us $4200. I was very upset at the large increase. We ended up paying $3500, and we still had to pay another electrician to finish the job. We decided to let them keep the full $3500 because we just wanted to be done with them. I could never recommend Mako electric to my friends or family, and I hope no one else has to deal with the stress they caused us.

This is the biggest clown show I have ever seen !! A complete fire hazard was created by this shop. No permit pulled on inspection and definitely no quality !! I do not know how many fake reviews are on this site or if this will ever be seen by anyone because if you pay Angi.com they will remove bad reviews !!
Response from MAKO Midwest Electric, LLC
"Let me respond first off that the customer was extremely rude to my receptionist and what the problem was had nothing to do with the work performed. The customer asked to have the panel clear to pass inspection which it did or the house would not have been sold to your daughter. The original customer had the work done and they were satisfied with the result. The new home owners whom left this review were extremely rude and not able to understand what I was explaining. Your problem is with the seller not with us."

The decision to hire Nick and Giana DeMichael doing business as MAKO Midwest Electric turned out to be a nightmare, trainwreck, and a five-thousand-dollar mistake. The experience was taken straight from a Holmes on Homes episode that you would see on HGTV exposing a contractor’s gross incompetence and neglect. A little color on how Nick and Giana took five thousand dollars from us. I found Nick and Giana on Angie’s List as I needed a competent electrician to go behind all of the electrical work completed by the initial contractor the I had hired to renovate the house left by my deceased mother-in-law and father-in-law. I discovered that the initial contractor who I will call Jesse lacked the sufficient skills of an electrician to complete the work in a manner that would meet the local building code. It was also at that time I instructed Jesse to stop all work to include any unfinished electrical work a provide a final bill. With Jesse out of the picture and a closing date fast approaching I found Nick and Giana on Angie’s list and explained the scope of the work and the timeline that was in place. I then decided to hire Nick and Giana after I verified their credentials. When I met with Nick at the start of the job, I explained that there was a huge problem with the circuit breaker box as the new refrigerator I purchased kept tripping circuits and that the light switch in the hallway was not functioning as it was supposed to. Since the circuit breaker box was dated from the 1970’s Nick suggested that it would be prudent to update the circuit breaker box with state-of-the-art technology to meet local code requirements. For this Nick provided an estimate of $2,443 and asked that I pay for the parts upfront which I paid to have Nick begin the work. In addition, Nick promised that he would guarantee that his work would pass the city inspection As Nick started the job he did find as expected mistakes Jesse had made with replacing switches and outlets throughout the house and communicated with me the progress. But as the work progressed cracks in Nick’s became evident and began to surface. For example, I plugged a wet-dry vac to an outlet over the counter in the kitchen that Nick had replaced, when I pulled the plug, the whole outlet pulled away from the wall exposing unshielded wires. Also, there was the issue of the three-way light switch that powered the light at the bottom of the hallway stairs, Nick could not return the switch to its normal function. When Nick completed his work $2400 estimate had ballooned to over five thousand dollars. All this came to a head on February 9th, 2022, when the city conducted its occupancy inspection and rejected the house and occupancy was not granted because of major violations found with the house electrical system. In addition, it was noted that the electrician did not pull the required permit to do the electrical work. Below is the list of violations cited on the city report relating to the houses electrical. 1. At least one wall switch controlled lighting receptacle to be installed in every room 2. The electric meter must be grounded 3. Exterior receptacles must be GFI protected 4. Install a single dedicated receptacle for the garage door opener to be GFI protected 5. All habitable areas shall have at least two separate and remote working receptacles 6. The three was switch required at the first and second-floor staircase is miss wired 7. Replace faulty broken missing wall devices, switches, receptacles and cover plates 8. Bathroom electrical none of the outlets were grounded 9. Check all receptacles though out the structure for incorrect wiring and installation to include reverse wiring, open ground, neutral and hot wires, loose wires, and insecure mountings. At the conclusion of the report, the inspector asks if a qualified electrician completed the work in the house and mentioned that this was the biggest botched job he’s seen in a long time. Once I got the completed city inspection report I reached out to Nick to formulate a strategy to address the violations. The initial conversation I had with Nick, he assured me that he would be able to correct the violations in time to meet the scheduled closing date per the contract. The plan was for Nick to meet me at City Hall to purchase the required building permit at 9 AM on Friday, February 11th, 2022. As it would have it Nick did not show. It was not until the following Monday, February 14th, 2022, that I got a text message from Nick stating that he was sick, and he was over to meet me. I replied and asked Nick to stay at and call me. That was the last time I heard from Nick.
