Fixed TV in our spare bedroom. Came the same day we called.

We had a power outage during the "Groundhog Day" blizzard and then the surge when power came back burned out some circuits on our 35in Mitsubishi TV. It was on when the lights went out and when they came back the set powered up for about 30 seconds and then shut down dead, leaving us with no picture, no sound, no power. Since it was a CRT we weren't sure there was a chance for repair but we called Wally who said the repair could cost as much as $350. Expensive but we paid nearly 3k for it new and were not ready to replace it with a $1000 flat-screen. He referred us to a repairman who was a Mitsu specialist. $89.95 for the service call/estimate. Mike completely detached the circuit board/power supply from the picture tube and took it back to his shop to test the components and told me if he couldn't repair it there would be no further charges. It took about 2 weeks and I began to wonder if it was a lost cause. He called after the first week to say that he'd been pretty busy and needed a little more time, probably to get and replace the bad parts, but he called few days later to set up a time for him to come and reinstall the board. In about half an hour we had a great picture. He applied the initial service charge to the balance so I paid him $260 that day. (30 day warranty on P&L.) Have to admit, I was fairly skeptical but: Job well done!

Wally called me back in less than 10 hours of my initial voicemail. The key word is HONESTY. He told me it would be approximately $200 to fix based on my description of the problem. He essentially told me it would not be worth spending $200 to fix a $300 TV, which I agreed with. He recommended some TV brands to stay away from and ones to investigate as replacements. I appreciated his quick callback, honesty and not trying to convince me to fix a TV that wasn't worth fixing.

He repaired it once, backed up his work and came back out when it stopped working again.

I called when the TV sound quit. He returned my call that day and scheduled for that evening. However, an hour and half before he was to arrive, I found that one of the sound adjustments on the onscreen menu had been changed and that was the problem. I left a message that he was not needed and received a nice return message about it.
