Mike had given me his hourly rate and a rough estimate of what it would cost, which was reasonable for what seemed to be a relatively straightforward job. I asked if he had a partner to help move the larger pieces of furniture that were in the basement. He did bring a partner with him, who helped him with the entire job. It took a day and a half to complete, which was longer than I expected, especially for two carpenters. Drycore is designed to be easy to install, so that "a typical 500 square foot basement can be installed in a afternoon" by a homeowner. The basement walls were not perfectly straight and the floor was not level, which would be expected in a basement. It was a rectangular space divided into two rooms - nothing unusual. I had purchased all of the panels ahead of time and put them in the basement so they would acclimate to the temperature and humidity of the room, as recommended. I expected this job to be completed in less than one day by an experienced carpenter, much less two. He and his partner spent at least half a day planning how they were going to do the job. Then he charged me double his hourly rate for the time it took. I think that this was unreasonable and excessive considering the type of job and the pace at which the two of them worked. I would definitely recommend getting a written quote and holding him to it, rather than trusting him to complete the work in a reasonable length of time while charging his hourly rate.

It was an entirely favorable experience. The carpenter did the work and stayed within his estimate. He couldn’t see some of the supporting beams and he said that he would have to change the estimate if those beams needed to be replaced. However, he was right there with what he said it would be. He was correct with that part of the estimate when it needed to be replaced. He did very high quality work. We received a lot of compliments from people passing by in terms of how nice it looks. He came on time to get the work done and he finished the job quickly. We are absolutely happy with the entire thing. If I ever have work of that same nature again, then I would definitely use their services in the future too.

Mike was very professional, he was incredibly neat (very difficult to do with drywall) and left his work area pristine at the end of each day. He arrived on time and completed the job on time. We would have asked him back to do more projects like this but at the time we asked (back in 2009) he said he did not typically do drywall-focused jobs anymore. His work product was very good. Many times after contractors are done there are those little mistakes that only the homeowner would notice - Mike did not leave any of those. His work was terrific.

After several recommendations from basement waterproofers and others, we decided on a raised subfloor as the best alternative to avoid the saturation of our carpeting in the basement due to minor foundation seepage during an unusually heavy rain. I needed the subfloor installed within a short time frame due to the scheduled reinstallation of carpet. According to the manufacturer, this DIY subflooring was easy to install due to its 2' X 2' tongue-and-groove design, and would take a DIY less than a day. When I called Mike, he was willing to rearrange his schedule so he could do the work the following week. He told me that he could not give me an estimate, but he charged $40 an hour for labor. I had to rent a truck to pick up the materials. He came on the agreed-upon day, and brought his partner with him, which I thought was to help move the furniture. The job took the two of them almost 2 days, even after I picked up additional supplies needed. They spent almost half of the first day planning how they were going to do the job, which was 2 rectangular rooms - not complicated for professional carpenters. When they said the job was finished, Mike gave me a bill for twice the labor rate he had quoted me. If the job had been completed in half the time, I would have considered this price acceptable, but it should have been completed in the same amount of time by one pro carpenter. When I asked him why it took so long, he said it took a long time to remove the pocket door to cut it down. Carpenters I have interviewed in the past had all installed pocket doors before and knew how to remove them. I consider this a deceptive practice, to take advantage of an unsuspecting homeowner. He should have told me up front that he was going to charge me double the rate because he chose to bring his partner along, which was not necessary. After he left, I discovered that he had not reinstalled any of the baseboards, and had only cut down 1 of the doors. I had agreed to replace 2 of the baseboards, but had to reschedule the carpet installation for late in the day and spent most of the next day installing all the baseboards so they were in place when the carpet installers came. Mike did come back the following day to cut down the other door after I called him.

Very well. This was a complicated repair and Mike was very thorough. He and his co-worker did a quality job in a short period of time. He also explained what he was doing. This repair was done one year ago.

Mike responded quickly to my request for a quote. The estimate was very reasonable and Mike started work on the agreed upon date. Mike was very courteous, prompt, and clearly detailed the work to be done. The finished product looks great, was completed on time, and for the budgeted amount. I would definitely hire Mike again for carpentry and dry wall work.

It took awhile for Mike to come out for an estimate (he noted he was going to be away on vacation and had a job to finish first). He was finally able to come out and give a verbal estimate of how many days it would take to complete the job as well as what he charged/hour. I would have preferred an exact dollar amount quote. Nonetheless, he showed up on time, brought drop clothes and covered floors and counters well. He was meticulous, neat, and professional. We were very satisfied with the work! The kitchen and family room looks as if nothing was ever ripped out.

Mike did a very professional job. Because I tore out interior walls, he started with a mish-mash of bare studs & drywall with various holes, & 35 years of built-up paint to try to match up with. The job took him a lot longer than he estimated, but to his credit, he never complained or tried to cut any corners to hurry the job along. And after I primed & found a few problems, he came back & fixed them in a pretty timely manner. I would hire Mike again to do this kind of work.

This rotted wood problem was a difficult repair, but Mike was able to quickly assess the situation, make the repair in the least disruptive/expensive manner, and do a quality job. Replacing the sections of 4 joists required Mike to work above his head (accessing them from the unfinished basement below), cut out a rim joist which had concrete behind it, maneuver around a heating duct and electrical conduit. He managed to repair the damaged French door (saving me the expense of replacing it) and was able to make the repair without removing the door in the sub-freezing temperature. Aside from being a superb carpenter, Mike is very professional, businesslike, a non-stop worker, and reasonably priced. I give him two thumbs up.

HE WAS EXCELLENT AT OFFERING OPTIONS TO KEEP THE COST LOW. HE CHARGED $35/ HOUR FOR A SMALL JOB PLUS MATERIALS AND WE WERE ABLE TO RECYCLE SOME OF THE MATERIALS. HE WAS VERY METICULOUS AND THE WORKMANSHIP WAS EXCELLENT. WE WERE VERY PLEASED WITH THE FINISHED PRODUCT. HE CALLED TO RESCHEDULE AHEAD OF TIME AND ARRIVED RIGHT ON TIME ON THE DAY OF THE PROJECT. OUR ONLY DIFFICULTY WAS HE MISSED THE APPOINTMENT TO GIVE THE ESTIMATE AND NEVER CALLED. HE SAID HE WROTE THE DATE DOWN WRONG WHEN I CALLED TO RESCHEDULE.

MIKE DOES A GOOD JOB FOR A VERY REASONABLE PRICE. HE SPENT HALF A DAY PATCHING A CEILING DRYWALL, AND EVEN REDUCED THE SCOPE OF THE JOB, BY SHOWING ME THAT NOT ALL OF THE OLD PORTION NEEDED TO BE CUT OUT.

WE WERE VERY PLEASED WITH MIKE BOYAN'S WORK. ALTHOUGH HIS SCHEDULE WAS TIGHT AROUND THE TIME WE NEEDED THE WORK DONE, HE FOUND A WAY TO FIT US IN TO FIT OUR WORK DEADLINES. HE ARRIVED PROMPTLY, WAS A METICULOUS WORKER AND ACCURATELY ESTIMATED THE NUMBER OF HOURS HE THOUGHT THE JOB WOULD INVOLVE. HE ALSO CLEANED UP WHEN HE WAS FINISHED. WE WOULD CALL HIM BACK IN A HEARTBEAT.
