Brought in a huge clock for repair, took about two months, cost a about $150 and all they did, if anything was put in a cheap clock mechanism that you could get at hobby lobby. It never worked well, and a year later it is worthless. The only reason I do not give them a F is because it took me a long time to write a review.
Response from Elgin Clock Repair
"The repair this review was based on was completed in July of 2013. The mechanism we installed was not the same as the craft store type. It is a special high torque movement for use with exceptionally large heavy hands. The primary reason for the $125. charge however was labor since the clock was not built with consideration for future repair (stapled together with a pneumatic stapler) it is time consuming to get apart to access the hands. We warranty this type of repair for 1 year and would have been happy to rectify any problem which arose with the operation of the clock at no charge."

Overall, they are a specialty shop that mainly does mechanical clocks and they seem to do a good job with them.

My great grandfather's watch ran, but needed regular maintenance. My grandfather's watch also needed maintenance, but did not run. The watchmaker provided an estimate of $290 for both together, including possibly replacing the mainspring in my grandfather's watch. It turned out that the spring was fine, but an earlier restoration/repair screwed up one of the gears. The balance wheel also had lots of problems. Repair took longer than originally estimated to correct the mistakes of previous watchmakers. It cost a little more than the estimate, too, but not too much more.
