I asked for installation within the next two weeks and they were able to assist me. The installer was a few minutes early and waited outside so not to wake me. He covered the stairs, closet, hallway, and my clothes with plastic. He wore booties to protect my floors. After the installation he handed me a certificate to prove the type of product blown and the amount. He explained the benefits of this installation as well. Everything was clean when he left, although he said there may be a tiny bit of settlement over the next couple hours, which was natural. I vacuumed, even though I did not see anything.
I would hire Wilkin Insulation again and recommend them to others. They were competitive and from a friend who has professional knowledge, I hear they are an industry leader.
1) The job was rushed. It was so rushed that I don't think my soffits were cleared of old loose fill. This is supposed to allow air circulation that might not have existed before. I checked attic temperature and air flow, and it's too hot with no air movement from the soffits at all with the powered fan running. My electrician who went up to the attic to replace the thermostat said the soffit baffles are very narrow and cheap, and the wider better quality baffles should have been used.
2) I asked that the gable vent screens be cleared of accumulated dust and debris. Although Larry promised that would be included in the job, Kevin was unable to do this. Larry said he'd investigate with Kevin, but then never called me back.
3) I asked Larry if the loose fill insulation would be sucked into the powered attic fan. He said not at all. But when going up there to find out why the attic fan thermostat was no longer working, loose fill was all over attached inside the powered attic fan screen. This is why I considered batt insulation instead, and now wish I had done that.
4) I asked if Wilkin could install a roof vent to connect a bathroom fan to the outside. Larry said they don't do those things. Another insulation company I compared with said they would. It seems that should be part of any insulation company's capabilities, and something they should insist be done properly before blowing in insulation. Wilkin acted like they didn't care one way or another if it was done at all.
5) The blowing in may have been done well enough and looks like it, but it seemed way too rushed. 2 hours for what all professional websites say should take 4-5 hours to be done right and with care for my square footage. I had the impression that the company wanted to get it done with as soon as possible and move on to the next job.
Update 2 months later. My issues were finally heard by the superintendent, Abraham Kreml. He came out with a team to investigate my issues and correct. They found that my soffits were blocked by solid wood with no holes for air ventilation. I have to have that corrected by my siding company that failed to do that originally (Siding-1). Abraham's team in the meantime cleared out my gable vent from debris and added more loose insulation as needed due to moving around in the attic. I still think it was a quick and shoddy insulation job with no interest in making sure all aspects of attic insulation and condition is done properly.
workers were also very friendly in their communications and responsive to our questions.
lower heating and air conditioning bills, and an ice-free attic.
