Green Attic Insulation

If you are looking for a company that couples outstanding work with outstanding customer service, then Green Attic Insulation is who you should definitely call. I truly wish I would have called them years ago as I have been putting off suspected issues that centered around extreme temperature fluctuations between winter and summer, along with poor ventilation, within my attic. From the time that Tim arrived for assessment after great communication from Alina, to the installation of the insulation and solar fan with Charlie and his team, to a final blower door test, every aspect was performed professionally and as outlined by the quote. The issues identified were explained thoroughly, with the after result reviewed with me to ensure it was completed as expected. The company must take pride in the people they hire because it showed with their skill and personalities. They were great to be around that day. As for pricing, I originally expected the final quote to be much higher, but found the quote to be very fair and reasonable. Using this company was a great decision. They were easy to work with and very knowledgeable. Other companies that came to inspect my attic just told me what needed to be done, this company actually explained what and why. My only gripe would be on the day of the service. They were 15 mins late, but they were so professional and efficient with their work that they finished earlier than expected with no complications. Overall, I wouldn't think twice to use them again if I need more services that they provide.

Highly recommend! Green Attic is thorough, responsive, and professional. Although it has only been a month since we had the work done, the results are clear. Our house is more comfortable, while our gas consumption is down ~30% and electricity is down ~25%. On the top floor, they sealed all the fixtures and blew in cellulose insulation between the ceiling and the roof as well as into the knee walls down to the level of the floor. There is no access to the attic space and there is very little room between the ceiling and roof, which means GA had to cut through the ceiling/ walls and then maneuver in a tight space. They did a great job keeping the number of punctures to a minimum. They also blew insulation into about 2/3 the basement walls, primarily where pipes come in/ out and there was cool air making its way into the house. James conducted the initial inspection and provided the estimate. I gathered quotes from several companies, some of whom recommended different approaches, but I found his suggestions/ explanations the most compelling. Green Attic was slightly more than a couple other companies, but in the same ballpark. I went with GA mainly based on reviews and James' explanations. Alina, in the home office, was very quick to respond to any questions/ concerns I had. The crew worked two full days. They were punctual, courteous, responsive to my many questions, and careful about containing the mess. At the end of each day, they walked me through the construction areas to make sure the cleanup met with my satisfaction. Just as important, they left the impression that they were intent on doing the best possible job (rather than making the most possible money). With an old house, you are always nervous cutting holes and opening things up. Will you discover something that adds new costs? We had one issue with some old cheap drywall that collapsed during the process of blowing in insulation. GA fixed it, no problem. In one of the upstairs bedrooms, more work was required than expected, but they just dealt with it. In the basement, they ended up doing slightly more than I expected. Overall, I got the impression that they take pride in their work and were looking for every possible way to make the house more energy efficient. As noted, I'm very pleased with the results. We've started saving on energy costs and we haven't even gotten to the coldest and hottest months when the real cost savings should kick in. The house was not uncomfortable before the work, but it had cold spots and could take a while to warm up in the morning. Now, the cold spots are gone, the house warms quickly, and the furnace that serves the top floor seems to hardly ever kick on. The basement is actually warmer than the main floor; part of me regrets not having them do work there. Bottom line, you cannot go wrong with Green Attic.

Green Attic was wonderful. James came out and gave us a comprehensive plan for how to prove our home efficiency and a detailed plan for everything they were going to do. The team showed up on time, even though there was a blizzard. They worked quickly and professionally, got the whole job done in 1 day. I highly recommend them!

Note most of the work was completed in January. Things we very up and down in our experience. Initially very good. They seemed to understand the issue and had a plan to address it. They used a heat gun to identify the problem areas in the bedroom and rest of the house. We were losing a great deal of heat through the recessed lights (we have 50 of them) and poor insulation in the attic. The team that did the work to insulate the attic and the recessed lights did a nice job but because of confusion on the directions between the crew and our contact (James) they ended up having to do some double work which meant the job took longer for them to do (I think they were more irritated than I was). After this work was complete we found that it was still colder in our bedroom then the rest of the house so James came back out and looked at things again and he determined that we had an issue because our Rim Joists were not properly insulated so we agreed to have them come back out and do that work (+ $500). They sent one guy out to do this work and there was a language issue and he kept asking me what was supposed to done. I kept telling him to talk to James but even then he ended up doing some of it in differently than what was expected and he did a horrible job cleaning up after himself (the 1st crew that did work did a really good job cleaning up). Then James came back out to 'retest' and document the work that was done for the rebate program and I pointed out to him that the bedroom is still significantly colder than the rest of the house. He again looks at things and he identifies that it looks like where there are a couple of vents (dryer/bathroom) that exit the side of the house on the same wall as our bedroom there is not enough proper insulation. So he tells me "that he should have noted that issue from the very beginning" and they will make it right and come back out and take care of it "on them". He did send a couple of guys out to clean up the mess that the other guy left. I then reached out to him and his office a couple of times to followup on the additional work(3/18 and 4/8). I finally heard back from him on 4/10. James then finally replies "I have no problem insulating that wall but I can't incur the cost because there is a vent from the dryer going through they're causing the cold so it's not something we had missed. Obviously I will work with you on the cost Please give me a call thank you." I then replied to him to let me know when he wants to talk and he replied "I will make it rt but I cant eat a fault in the house we have to be fair. As I always am I will call you tomorrow." That was on 4/10 and I am yet to hear back from him.

We hired Green Attic to insulate our unfinished attic. They were prompt, efficient, and accommodated all of my requests for walkways to access key areas. And their pricing was extremely competitive, better than anywhere else. We were so pleased with their work, we immediately rehired them to improve the insulation in the back portion of our house. It was a complicated job, in the middle of a snowstorm, just before the polar vortex weekend and they went above and beyond what was initially anticipated to improve the insulation in every manner possible. They patched and repaired all the walls and cabinets in the room, being as neat as possible and asking for my thoughts and opinions along the way. It was a very messy job and there was dust everywhere, but that was unavoidable. Be prepared for a lot of dust and mess if you have insulation work done. On both jobs, the office staff helped process all of the ComEd rebate paperwork, and gave us all the appropriate documentation for our files. We were very pleased with Green Attic and would recommend them.

Green Attic has insulated my attic first job. The second job they did my office and my bedroom. and Finally on The Third job they insulated the boiler room. They were very courteous , professional, polite and clean. The work was excellent and I do notice the difference in my Energy Costs at home. The home I am in is used to house ministers and clergy that come to visit us here in Chicago. So keep a well insulated home is a blessing. Thank You guys.

Properly insulating a house is essential. Use the wrong type of insulation in the wrong area and you're asking for trouble. There's a definitely a science behind it and Green Attic knows their stuff. Dumitru extremely thorough and responsive to questions throughout the process. As far as I'm concerned, Green Attic is the only insulation company in Chicago(land).

The attic and bathroom went fantastically and have made a huge difference; the walls went expensively wrong because Green Attic didn't follow their own stated practices. Green Attic's guidelines (as emailed to me before work started) say they will only put insulation in walls if there are four or more inches of space. Sylwester, who gave me the quote, didn't measure the space himself, relying instead on an inaccurate estimate from my neighbor. The day the work started, I tracked down the head of the crew, Charlie, to ask about this; since he assured me they could still get insulation into the one inch gap, I told him to go ahead. They were wrong — as Charlie told me after the work was done, they couldn’t blow any significant amount of cellulose into the walls or down from the attic. (I verified that both directly before they sealed the holes and from before-and-after temperature measurements.) I met with the owner of the company, Dumitru, to talk about this. He didn't use his imaging thermometer to show that there was more than trace insulation in the walls or take up my offer to open another hole to look. At one point he suggested with a straight face that I cut open one of the walls his crew worked on and add some insulation myself. In the end, Dumitru insisted that because I trusted Charlie’s advice and ok’d the work, they had to charge me for it even though little insulation had been added. Despite the small discount he gave me, I’m out over $1500 for that part of the work. Some contractors are partners, who will help you overcome problems to meet your goals. Other contractors are like tools, who can be used effectively but won't stop you from foreseeable mistakes. If you know how to use a tool for insulating, Green Attic will do good work; if not, make sure to keep an eye on what's happening and what can go wrong.

The job went very well. Green Attic did a thorough job in the pre-job assessment and follow up after completion. They identified the source of related problems that eluded me for several months, and resolved them. The job required 2 days of work, including lots of blown-in insulation. The measures taken to contain any debris and clean up after completion were much appreciated. Very professional and recommended. Costly work, but fairly priced.

The entire experience was good. They are knowledgeable, hard working, and cleaned up when finished. This is the second time I used them. The first time was when I finished my basement. We’re happy with both jobs. I wish my rehab contractor was this good.

The 3 man crew arrived right on time, laid drop cloths from the doorway and garage door to the area's where they had to access the attic. They removed existing insulation that had gotten in the way of our vented eaves and using Greatstuff Foam they sealed any and all protrusions from the living area below to the attic (this included electrical boxes, HVAC boots, plumbing and duct chases, and each side of wall top plates to the drywall). They also cut 2 holes in the roof and installed insulated flexible ducts from the bath exhaust fans to new roof vent caps. We have a large attic that required quite a bit of insulation in addition to layered insulation running vertically up the sides of our 3 skylight build-outs. This insulation was secured to the studs with staples in the usual manner plus wall high cloth was added to make certain the insulation would stay in place. Note: they offer a 5% discount for Angie's List members which we took advantage of.

The Technician indicated there was no mold. He also checked in insulation in the attic. Indicated that I was "good to go"

I purchased a Big Deal. They came out and did an energy assessment. gave us some recommendations. They were good, i liked their recommendations. Just economically we decided to just do the recommendations.
