Carl came out, diagnosed the problem as a broken part that was likely under warranty, called it into Anderson and had them ship the part asap. He did not charge me after the first visit but came back the day after the part arrived and fixed the lock. Carl was also able to show me how to easily re-level the door that was catching slightly at the bottom. The door and lock are now working as well as they did the day of installation.

After discovering that our deadbolt lock was broken late at night, we called A-Alert Lock Service early the next morning.  Carl came to our house in the afternoon and replaced the lock with one that was identical in size but of better quality.  He noticed that the strike plate was not aligned properly and was attached with only one screw (which probably explains why we always had trouble locking the door).  He corrected this problem and now it is very easy to lock the door.  Hooray!  Carl was friendly and also offered advice on operating and maintaining our new lock.  It was a pleasure to deal with such a capable professional.  We will certainly call Carl again when we need the service of a locksmith.
