Then the flooring contractor recommended that the priming only be done prior to the hardwood flooring because of humdity issues. Scheduled priming with Brian. The day before he was to come out and prime he called me to get the color scheme of each room stating that if they prime in the final color rather then a white prime the true colors of the paint come out. The next day I went over to the office and saw that it looked like paint so I asked him and he said yes it was paint - was he not supposed to be painting? Cuz he could stop right now - he was confused and thought he was supposed to be painting. I could visibly see that he had already painted about 95% of the office. An hour or so later he called and said he was done with the job and was waiting for me to come by with a check. I told him that I had not expected him to paint at that time - he was only supposed to prime. He got all offensive and said what did I think he was going there to do? That I had changed the plans from putting in 100% hardwood flooring to putting in some carpet and that he couldn't paint after the new carpet had been installed and that I should know that. I said you were the one who told me that the painter is always last after the flooring. He is shouting to me now. I told him I did not feel that I should be paying him the entire amount. That I wanted to hold something back to make sure that he came and did touchups after the flooring was finished. He agreed and I kept $800. I then discovered he had painted a room in the wrong color but decided when it was time for him to come back and do touch ups he could do it all at once. The flooring took approx. another 4-5 weeks before it was installed. I called and spoke with his wife Suzanne and told her the date the flooring was to be completed to see if Brian could come out after that, we scheduled for Wed. I called on Mon. to verify we were still on for Wed. and she said no, Wed. is no good he could come today, I said no because the carpet was not in. I finally said yes because he had a whole room to do over. I went in and inspected the room he did over and saw that it needed a second coat. I was very reluctent to call him because we have not been on the best terms throughout this project and he had been verbally abusive to me over the phone and in person about various damage that the flooring people may cause and that he is not responsible for any of that. I called, he started shouting as usual and said that he expected a check at the time he comes out there otherwise forget it, he was not coming out. That I have dangled this in front of him like a carrot for a long time now. Was I going to have a check for him? CATHY ARE YOU GOING TO HAVE A CHECK FOR ME? So I agreed he finished the job and I paid him.
