When he finally arrived on September 9 to deliver my three covers, he only had two. He explained that he didn't have room in his truck for the third. I was astounded. I insisted he return within 2 days to deliver the third cover. He never showed up, he never called. After calling repeatedly, he finally answered his phone one nigh at 10pm. He claimed he would come by on another day. He no-showed again. I finally left him a message stating it would be my last.
From here I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau, Yelp, City Search and providing this feedback. I will also be seeking to determine if I have any basis for small claims court since he took payment for the materials and didn't not deliver the finished product. Merely because it is far more of an inconvenience/eyesore to have go go out and now find another company to build a third cover to match the other two he delivered. As they say: it's the Principle. I have two covers which match and the third (in my entrance foyer no less) is completely different.
Oh, and one of the two covers which was delivered was measured wrong and is too big for my space.
I also contacted the door and window company that contracted with Jay to install my windows to ask if they are still using his services. They said they have scaled back working with him because of him being unreliable and not showing up. (This happened during my install as well.)
Overall, I think his craftsman ship is decent (with the exception of the mis-sized radiator cover but that's due to laziness and not that he's lacking proficiency in his craft) and he is a nice guy to have around doing work. He's polite, he explains what he's doing and seems genuinely interested in doing a good job. But, unfortunately, there is an undeveloped professionalism that is detrimental to a successful business and it prevents him from doing as good a job as I think he wants to do.
