We had our roof and 8 skylights replaced 9/2006 by TVC Improvements, Inc. of Davenport, IA.  The skylights were never installed correctly (in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions/specifications...VELUX) and they leaked over time.  VELUX sent a representative and verified that all 8 skylights were not installed per their written instructions.  If TVC Improvements had performed their work correctly in 2006, I would not have needed to hire a 2nd contractor to fix the problems from the 1st contractor and at a considerable additional expense.  So, I contracted with Peterson Roofing Company to reinstall the skylights (replace the flashing/roofing material In Accordance With the manufacturer's specifications...IAW), replace the flashing/roof material around the chimney and replace the boots on 2 roof vents (TVC Improvements didn't replace the vent boots when the roof was replaced in 2006 and the old boots were worn and cracked).  I assumed Peterson Roofing would reinstall the skylights, flashing and roofing materials IAW with VELUX specifications and our contract but I found the installers were installing the skylights based on how the senior installer has been installing skylights and roofing materials for over 28 years.  I had to get the owner of the company involved to have the installers start over and reinstall the skylights (again) per the manufacturer specifications.  I was quite adamant with Peterson Roofing to have the skylights installed per the manufacturer as VELUX has an iron-clad 10 year warranty against their skylights leaking for skylights purchased since 2010.  My skylights were initially purchased before 2010 so mine do not fall under the current VELUX 10 year warranty but I determined that if they were installed per the manufacturer specifications, they shouldn?t leak in the future.  Since I had to be very direct with the contractor to have my skylights installed per the manufacturer, I have to wonder how many skylights this company has installed their way verses the VELUX specification since 2010 thus voiding the 10 year manufacturer?s warranty against leaks?  Additionally, Peterson Roofing had to install 1x3 cedar trim around the chimney where they replaced the flashing and they were not going to prime the wood before installing the trim so I had to prime the wood myself.  When the job was supposedly complete, they did not paint the trim they installed and I was told by the company owner that they do not paint, but made an exception as I was not going to pay the bill until the job was completed.  One major issue I had with Peterson Roofing Company is that they do not communicate well with the customer!  When I signed the contract, I was told they would start the job the following week?2 ½ weeks later they showed up without contacting me, and when the repair crew determined the job was complete, they left and not another word until I had to contact the company about the trim not being painted.  As an additional note, most insurance companies will not approve a claim for skylight leaking water damage due improper installation?I found this out from our home owner?s insurance company adjuster that inspected our skylights after I submitted a claim.

From start to finish they were prompt, orderly, attention to detail, and provided quality craftsmanship.  Ryan the sales rep and overseer was professional in working with, very knowledgeable, fair in price and detailed in the work to be done and materials used.  A+++ highly recommended.  THANK YOU PETERSON ROOFING!

One summer day, a few of shingles flew off our roof. I called Peterson to have them come out and fix them and repair the flashing around our chimney/exhaust. They were late coming out, but finally, supposedly came out and made the repairs. I never saw them, but my neighbor commented that they'd seen people on the roof. I can only assume it was Peterson since I had no one else scheduled to come out.
We never got an invoice, and after several calls they finally sent someone over to collect the $400 for the repairs. I have no idea what was done, how long it took nor when they did it. The man that came over just wrote on a sheet of paper that was supposed to serve as my and quot;receiptand quot;. No guarantee of work either.
Several weeks later, I noticed the area was still leaking again (saw water in the basement around the base of the exhaust chimney). I again called Peterson and explained the problem to them. Again, I have no idea when they came out nor what work was performed. I never did receive an invoice for THAT, but the roof no longer leaks, so I guess the problem is solved.
The whole thing was kinda sketchy and not receiving an invoice was really frustrating.

Owners son did estimate. Did not get up on roof. Only on ladder. We built this house so we know roof history. Just had new gutters and downspouts replaced 1 year earlier. We were told that they could not be removed without permanently damaging them. The only other time the roof was replaced it was a complete tear off. I told this to the estimator. He wrote estimate to remove only one layer of shingles. When the final bill was sent, we were charged for two layers of tear off. I presented the previous invoice and was told I was wrong. We were also charged for twice as many facia boards as was used. I went in to the attic and you could see how many were new boards. We were also charged for four more sheets of plywood than what was installed. My wife is a teacher and we chose this roofer because they were the only ones that said they could start and finish the job earlier in the summer while she was off school. After signing the contract they delivered a trash bin and never showed up to start the job until 5 days after she returned to school. The workers did a decent job. They were a group of Mexicans who had only one (their supervisor) who could speak any English. I asked him how many layers of shingles they removed. He said only one. After speaking to the owner, he denied saying it. I found out later 2 of the workers were undocumented. They were afraid to say anything against the owner. I agreed to pay the cost of the estimate plus the cost of some additional work I had approved. The bill presented was over $2000.00 more than the estimate. The dispute could not be settled over the phone. The owner came to my house and was very arrogant. He wouldn't listen to anything I had to say. He refused to speak with my previous contractor or look at the invoice. He called me a liar. I wanted to take this matter to court. My wife was very upset and said to just pay them and get rid of them. They were very unprofessional. I would never use them again. I still wish I would have taken them to court and exposed this kind of behavior. The owner based his case on the amount of weight that was in the trash bin. However, they had another crew bring a truck load of materials out 4 times and emptied them into the trash bin.

The roofing crew arrived on a Monday removed the roof to the dumpster in a efficient manner with no damage to the house or the landscaping. The entire roofing job took three days.
The gutter crew who arrived a week later and were just as efficient and completed their work in a half day.
Both crews knew their business and were responsive to any problems we pointed out. They left the sight each day in a very orderly manner with all materials and tools stored or removed from the job sight. When they finished the job the sight was well cleaned as advertised.
Overall this was a extremely proactive company from the owner through to the labors. They provided a through inspection, a clear explanation of the material to be used and guarantees of both labor and materials.
I would recommend Peterson Roofing as providing excellent products , well trained employees and service.

Of four bids, they were the 2nd highest ($7200, $7800, $8800, and $15200). I went with them because they were in the ball park of the other two lower bids, and the most professional of the three. Ryan explained everything during the bid process, showed copies of bonding, insurance, and made me feel at ease. I waited 3 months before making a decision. They were able to do the work within a week of my call. Very professional, and very good cleanup, left no traces of construction behind.

(ps - in case you were wondering, the $15000 bid belonged to HomeWorks - bidding same work)

Went very well! Was impressed with the quality of work, and the speed. The quote was the lowest by around $1000, and they were able to get the roof scheduled in under a week (probably not typical, as they had just completed a job nearby).
Only complaint was that the air hose for the nail guns beat up my wifes tulips. Otherwise a fast, effecient, and quality crew. Will look to them to do my detached garage next year!

We only requested quotes from a couple of companies, and Peterson was the cheapest so that's what we went with. It would've been 500 dollars more to do it ourselves (with cost of disposal of old roofing). We decided to opt for the convenience. Before work, they sent a placard of sample roof shingles so we could pick a color/product. We set up a date, they called a few days before to confirm. They arrived promptly in the morning at 8am and asked if they could put their sign in our front yard (just a small sign on wire legs). We went to work, when we came back, the roof was finished and they were gone. It looked fantastic. There were no scraps left over, just the sign. We didn't mind since they did such a great job. No complaints, we would definitely use them again. I recommend them to anyone looking for a roofing company!
