It started off fine but when he didn't fix the problem and had charged over $500 already he became very untrustworthy. Just don't think he knows what he's doing as well as he should. You don't put an expensive part in if you're only guessing. The fact that he's not willing to fix the problem is unacceptable. He is rude and sarcastic and totally inappropriate with his comments to customers. Very immature. Would not recommend him to anyone for anything. I hope no one else gets ripped off by him.
Description of Work: In late January our hot tub stopped heating and was giving a message of Low Flow and we call SpaTech in Mokena, IL. He came out within a day, even with the bad weather, to check out the problem. He determined that a new pump was required, provided a price and ordered the part. I paid the price of the pump up front. He did provide a heat lamp to prevent the hot tub from freezing in the cold weather as it is located outside. He returned a few days later and installed the new pump. He left indicating that the problem was fixed and we paid the balance for a total of $543. A couple days later we checked the hot tub and the same message showed and it was still not heating. He came back out and couldn't figure out what the problem was so we agreed that the hot tub should be emptied and closed until warmer weather. On Monday, April 11, 2011 I called and asked him to follow up and get the hot tub working. He wanted to come out the next day but I was not available so he scheduled me for Wednesday, April 13, in the morning so I wouldn't have to wait for him all day. He did not show up until after 12:00 PM - I was getting ready to leave for an appointment but he indicated that I didn't need to be home so he and his co-worker stayed to complete the project. Upon arriving home I found that the company had left and that the hot tub was not completely put back together - covers were put back on with 2 screws instead of 8, some pieces were not secured on the outside cover and it still showed a message of Low Flow and was not heating. No note was left and no messages were on phone lines... I assumed that they must have needed another part and that I would hear from him the next day (today) or they would be back to complete the job. At 6 PM I called the company and inquired what was going on. He said it was working when he left and didn't believe that it wasn't working now. I mentioned that the covers were not secured properly and I assumed since there was no note and it was still not fixed that they had only temporarily secured them and they would be back. I asserted strongly that it needed to be fixed as it was not filtering, and not heating and it was becoming a slimy mess. He told me he didn't like my tone, called me ignorant several times, suggested that our bad, dirty water that he got from our hose when he filled the tub was not his problem and now I'm expecting him to clean it (which I had not). He informed me that he didn't know what I had done with the screws and if they were there he would have put them in. I mentioned that the screws were in their proper places when we called him in January and we had no reason to have taken them out. We argued for about 20 minutes about the matter and he gave every ridiculous excuse that he could to suggest that it was our fault and that it was working when he left. He was the most argumentative disrespectful business person I've ever encountered. I repeatedly reminded him that we had paid him quite a bit of money and the same problem existed that we first called him about. He was full of excuses and no solutions. He went so far as suggesting that we did something to it so that we could get more fixed for free. Needless to say I wasn't getting anywhere with getting things fixed. He finally said he'd come and get the new pump to use elsewhere and put in the old pump but he wasn't giving our money back. I told him I didn't want him to come get the pump I wanted him to find what the problem was and fix it. Things didn't get any better in the conversation so I finally told him that I didn't want him to come back on my property without me here IF he was going to come back. This led to him demanding what I wanted done. He said he would come find the problem but it was going to cost more money. I figured it was time to cut my losses. I told him I would find someone else to fix the problem and that I didn't want him on my property ever again. I did tell him that I would not hesitate to tell people about my experience with his company and that I couldn't believe as a business man he would want to have this type of reputation. He was very confident, telling me that I could ask anyone else about him and they would tell me that he is the best business person they've worked with. I cannot honestly believe he didn't choke on that comment...
