We had an old Hickory tree which had died from disease.  We called a few local services for estimates as price was a consideration.  American Arborist came in as one of the lower estimates, and we received positive feedback from a neighbor that had used them.  Note that the cost estimate is based on cash-only payment up front.  Also note that the amount of remaining tree wood you keep also determines the cost.  A team of 6 (and the owner) arrived on schedule and made fast work of the tree, quickly and safely.  The stump was also ground up (which is an additional charge) and the site left fairly clean.  I was pleased with the work enough to tip the work team.  Only one minor complaint: the communication could have been better.  I did not have luck getting a live person when calling the main number. This included the initial call, and follow up calls to ask questions and schedule the work.  Had to leave voice messages and wait for a callback which sometimes took a few days. Not a big issue for me, and this may typical of small businesses so allow some time for communication.  It may also have been a busy time for them.  Would definitely recommend and would use again.

It was 3 stories high, 75-100 years old and 9 feet away from the house. They also made the stump flush with the ground. They did the job very professionally. but how they presented themselves was a much lower score. The price was good. Their responsiveness was great. They called to tell us a piece of machinery was being repaired and they might not be able to come that week. We didn't even know they were planning to come that week. They communicated very well. They also brought me a load of wood chips at the end of the day and didn't charge me, which saved me a lot of money.
