We took our 2004 Avalanche into them to look at. My husband told them that it was making a loud metal on metal grinding noise that sounded like it was coming from the transmission. Garry insisted that the rear wheel bearings sound like they are coming from the front, charged us $1250 and a week later it was doing the same thing and the transmission went out. We now have to have it towed somewhere else for another $1700 worth of work!!
Response from GDS 4X4
"Customer brought vehicle to us for test drive 5/10/12. On test drive only noises adible were bearing noise coming from rear axle of vehicle. To be certain this is the area of concern we have a tool, called the chassis ear which can be wired to the vehicle and driven. This is why the test drive carries a $52.50 charge for diagnosis. On second test drive it was confirmed that the rear axle assembly was noisy. Customer rescheduled for repairs on 5/17/12. Upon disassembly the inner pinion bearing was found to be defective. Our course of action on this type of failure is to replace all bearings in the axle assembly as they all use the same oil for lubrication, we view not replacing all bearings and seals will raise quality control issues. Vehicle was test driven after repair and all noise concerns were addressed. During the same appointment driveability issues for code p0101 which was triggering the check engine light and causing idle control issues. On 6/01/12 the vehicle was towed back to our location with complaint of loud noise for under vehicle. Susequent test drive indicated no noise in forward gears but very violent gringing noise in reverse with no movement of vehicle in reverse. Customer was contacted and advised that there was an automatic transmission failure. We do not reapir automatic transmissions at our facility due to the specialized nature of these repairs and referred the customer to 2 different transmission repair shop that we use. There was no charge for this second attempted test drive. Customers wife called late that afternoon very upset that we did not fix the transmission On 5/17/12 claiming that there was nothing wrong with the rear axle. She was very rude and upset and would not listen when trying to explain the previous repairs. She asked if we still had the offending part from that repair and I sais āyesā. At that point she again become abusive and threaten legal action at which time the call was ended. We take each customers vehicle condition into account before selling high cost repairs and this vehicle seemed to bein very good shape for its age. We offer 90days warranty on all our repairs excluding neglect and abuse. However, we do not subsidize further repairs with refunds on repairs done correctly in the past."
