My furnace went out, but was covered by my home warranty. AFM was very prompt in responding to my service request and sending someone out the same day. The technician was polite and verified my furnace needed replacing. The next day, the office was very quick in responding to my inquiries for quotes.
Since I had to replace the furnace, I decided to upgrade the furnace and replace the AC and humidifier all at once. I chose to take a buyout from the warranty company, and use another extremely highly rated HVAC company from Angie's List that was closer to my home.
AFM was very courteous and professional and was able to provide me several different quotes, depending on the equipment I selected, over the phone. However, I was extremely disappointed AFM did not provide equipment recommendations based on an actual walkthrough of my home and evaluation of my heating and cooling needs.
Very importantly, since AFM was providing service through the warranty company, they could not provide a warranty for labor provided. This means paying the warranty company's service fee if any additional visits were needed. When my home warranty expires in 5 months, I would be left without a warranty on labor (equipment warranty is provided by manufacturer). By going with a different company, the labor was covered for 10 years.
Finally, AFM did provide a bit of a discount on the AC and humidifier for being an Angie's List member. However, the prices quoted by AFM--with all the fees not covered by the warranty company--ended up being comparable to prices provided by using another provider and paying full price outside of the warranty. Factoring in the amount provided from the warranty company by opting for a buyout, AFM's prices ended up being more expensive.
Please understand my experience with AFM is biased by going through a home warranty company. I'm sure they are a fine company. As stated earlier, they were very courteous, prompt, and professional.
This time AFM came out to do a tune-up on my unit as it was a bit dirty and prior to moving in early this summer, the house sat for a bit so I figured it was due. I was scheduled for a 10am-2pm time slot. 10:05 am the technician arrived which shocked me a little bit as I never have good luck with tech time windows. The technician came right in and got right to work. It took all of 15-20 minutes to complete the work. He cleaned the whole inside of the unit, made a few adjustments, tested the output and was done. He was very courteous and even answered a few questions I had about my heating unit.
Both times AFM has come out to my house I have been impressed with the tech's and the amount care they give to try and answer any questions you might have before you leave. The have never tried to sell me anything that was above and beyond what is needed. I will continue to use AFM in the future as I have been happy with the service they provide and would recommend them to anyone.
They were first set out here by my home warranty company to address my home warranty claim regarding my air conditioning not working. This was the 5th year in a row I had problems with my air conditioning unit.
They quickly identified the problem as a leaky evaporator coil. This same evaporator coil was worked on by another contractor last year. Whatever patching they had done had not held over. The Air First Mechanical tech first attempted to repair the coil in accordance to what the home warranty company required. After seeing that this coil was beyond repair, the tech got the okay for a brand new evaporator coil to be installed.
Tired of 5 years of patches being done on the system, plus the high cost of refrigerant I kept having to pay out for, I inquired about getting an upgrade to a new system. The folks at Air First Mechanical worked with the home warranty company to okay the upgrade and attain the home warranty payout (in-lieu of the new coil cost) for the new system. This meant I could upgrade to a new system and have hundreds taken off the bill, as it would be paid out by the home warranty company. Long story short - I am extremely happy that the folks at Air First Mechanical took this on, as talking to the home warranty company is often a dreadful experience.
I talked to Don (the owner) for a while about which system to install and he dug deep into the technical specs to ensure what I wanted would match up to my heating unit and give me the expected results. With Don's help I think I made the right choice.
After deciding on the unit to go with, I had the unit installed 2 days later. Two technicians were sent out and the install went smooth after they sorted out an issue with their supply house. It took a while - they were here until almost 9pm - but got the job done and really cleaned up the look of the HVAC system (5 years of various patch work now looks nice). They were polite, clean, and courteous the entire time they were hear. Most importantly - I now have an AC unit that actually works! Here's hoping that lasts a few years!
"Thank you so much, we really appreciate your business and the time you took to write this great review."
Don quickly diagnosed the problem and explained it to us. Having spare parts on board the van, he put the new part in, and now our furnace is operating correctly. We should have called him first !
AFM doesn't leave you with a box of matches telling you to start the furnace manually yourself !! AFM fixes it correctly, the FIRST time through!
The ability to fix a unit correctly the first time through, takes a great deal of skill, experience, and technical knowledge. AFM has that!
This is now our "go-to" place for yearly A/C - Heating Maintenance Checkups. And AFM will no doubt be the place we buy a new A/C-furnace from, since our current unit is getting a wee bit old.

"First id like to say is if your unit is low on freon it doesn't mean its your compressor leaking. There are two large coils and many feet of piping that could be the cause of the leak and normally is a coil leaking. You can not assume just because we were the last to work on your air conditioner that all future problems are the result of use being the last ones to work on it."
