The project started promptly, however he did not complete the work. He had other employees digging out the windows. In February there was a leak in the north facing window. He did not check for water damage, or if the window was properly sealed. He just replaced the carpeting in the room and dug out the hole for the window a little lower.
On July 22nd the Westt facing windows leaked due to the extream weather we were having. This leak actually flooded the whole finished basement. We now have had to have all the carpeting pulled up, drywall and mud, electrical and painting in the entire basement. We contacted him to let him know of the issues. He said that he would be out the next day. He never came by, other workmen were out in the neighborhood and my children were all home. I had the town home inspector come by to take a look at the work. and the work did not pass inspection. The windows have never been sealed or caulked, and there is no drainage for the windows so any water that gets in just stills against the windows. The total damage has not been fully calculated. The costs will include finishing the windows and wells, refinishing/replacing the walls, the restoration company's costs and replacing trim, carpeting, padding and ruined mattresses from two beds and one futon. Cost would also need to cover a new permit for the inside work. I want his insurance information as does State Farm.
We have tried on several occasions to get a hold of the contractor to get his insurance information so that our basement can be livable again. After he did not show up, he would not answer our calls. He finally did respond to a text message inquiring about his insurance saying "No, Chad and I stopped by today. The lid was not on. It's not graded away from the house. These are not meant to be swimming pools. No I will not take care of this on for you. Please provide your own insurance info."
The lid was off because the city inspector had taken the lid off for the inspection that did not pass. My home owners insurance will not cover the issue because of "poor workmanship and ground water" He has been dodging calls from us and our insurance company. We just want his insurance info to get this taken care of and our house in order again.
