Dogwood Pet Resort

We needed boarding for our dog for New Years Eve for 2 nights. Called about 4 weeks in advance to reserve a space. First of all, the young woman I spoke with sounded like she was barely awake. I told her what I needed, asked about price and what was provided. She answered my questions with very little interest or enthusiasm. Based on the reviews I read, I told her I would like to make a reservation. I gave her the information she asked for: name, address, phone, pet's name, breed, name of our vet, etc. Dates and business hours were confirmed.
We arrived at 1:30, on our way out of town, to drop off our dog. There were 2 vehicles parked at the business, one in the front and one in the back. The building where the animals are boarded had an Open sign in the door, but all the doors were locked, I was definitely feeling panicky. I walked to the front of the other building, same thing. Happened to notice a sign on one of the doors, it said they'd be closing at noon on New Years Eve. At this point I'm more than a little upset. I pounded on the doors, went to the back of the first building and pounded on a large garage door, no response. Went to the building the animals were boarded and pounded on the doors there, but got no response. I called, but just got a recording saying they were closed. We were there a good 15 minutes trying to find someone. Luckily we found a boarder near where we were staying. If we hadn't I don't know what we would have done. The
I called Monday to talk with someone about what happened. The person I spoke with was pleasant but said they have no record that I had made a reservation. I question the quality of the training of the employees. If the first person the customer deals with is unreliable what about the other employees? Your employees are only as good as the training they receive.
I cannot recommend this business.

We've been using their services for five years now. They take care of my dogs and they have a big yard where they run the animals.

My dog loves going there every Thursday.

The kennel appeared to be clean and serviceable. The nice part is that Dogwood has an animal hospital right in front of the kennel. The staff was pleasant and for the most part responsive. My only problem is that the the dogs were not taken out during that week due to the heavy storms. My dogs pooped in their cage and the staff tried to tell us that they pooped in the cage due to the thunder. Totally not true. My dogs will actually hold themselves for a couple of days at a time if they have to. I understand that the staff aren't paid to walk the dogs after hours and that the dogs can't be walked during a heavy downpour. I just don't like being told that because it was the dog's fault for pooping in their cage.
Having said that, I don't know of any kennel that would do things differently, it's all business. Dogwood is the best I can find at the moment.

The bath and grooming session for our lab went very well. She is 2 and, if you know labs, they can be a handful. She does not mind going there and is always returned in great shape. The kennel - which also houses the grooming area - is in a building behind the Dogwood Animal Clinic.
