Our project began with some major structural work that was completed last fall. Rock and timber retaining walls and buried gutter drains were installed last fall, and I left an "A" rating previously for that segment of the work. Andrew was great at scoping the work and helping me get permits for it from our village. Andrew came through again for us early this summer. He designed a fabulous blue stone entrance walkway as well as new lighting for the front yard. The stone walkway was a somewhat complicated design, but Poul's stone workers were extremely skillful, and it came out beautifully. Andrew also designed a lighting scheme for our very dark front yard (no street lights where we live,) that is MUCH easier to maintain than our old one, and that nicely compliments our contemporary house and zen garden. The lighting couldn't be more perfect. Finally, Andrew was exceedingly patient in working with me on the shape of our new driveway and the plant selections for the zen garden. I am very picky about plant material, and the design evolved over several conversations. He even allowed me to pick out the specimen trees that were important to the design. I am sure I was frustrating to work with, but Andrew was never annoyed. The whole thing came out better than we imagined. My entire family couldn't be more pleased!

Dan was super. He helped me plan a beautiful brick patio which matches my house. He did a nice job of bricking the garden on the side and back of the house. I love the colorful flowers planted around the patio.

Andrew is fabulous to work with.  He is a great communicator and worked with me every step of the way to complete the design phase.  He also attended the architectural review committee meeting required by our village for the permit.  I believe he personally installed the new lighting.  The Poul workmen that ripped out the old landscaping and put in place the new drainage and retaining wall were wonderful.  They were respectful and cleaned up after themselves every day.  I highly recommend Poul's for any landscaping work.

Our contact at Poul's, Jon Lee, and the crew that did the planting, was fantastic.  Jon came out to give us an estimate, delivered it in a timely manner, followed up with us and arranged for all the work to be done exactly as promised.  The day the bushes were planted, his crew showed up on time, did a great job with the planting, dealt with our disgruntled neighbor and took every bit of yard waste with them.  They then followed up with us afterwards to ensure everything was satisfactory.  I highly recommend them and would use Poul's  again in the future.

Work was done as scheduled beginning on date promised. The guys worked in the rain, 90 degree plus tempartures.
Everything looks better than expected. All landscaping damaged during the project was replaced. New grass seeded.
Lots of compliments from my neighbors. Project could not have gone better.
Mr. Dan Kjeldberg was the project manager and did an awesome job from beginning to end.
very pleased with the job.

I love working with Poul's.  Every one of their employees is a pleasure to work with, responsive and they do high quality work.  I had my yard completely landscaped with them and love it.  I also continue to work with the maintenance division with routine maintenance and other things like tree treatment and adjustments to landscaping.  Their pricing is very fair and they are flexible on plans.

Job proceeded flawlessly from initial meeting with salesman (Rick) through design & completion.

I couldn't be more pleased.

They were a joy to work with and delivered on everything they promised, on time and on budget.

First class, professional firm.

This is the third time I've worked with Poul's.  I found them on Angie's list in 2013.  The first year, I worked directly with Dan Poul.  That was an excellent experience.  The project was a thorough spring clean up after a couple years of neglect; mulching; removing raised beds and replacing with sod, etc.

The quality of the work was excellent.  From a cost perspective, they were a little higher - but I was ok with that, given the level of confidence I had in the work - and I just had a good feeling about Dan.  Super nice, thorough, gave his honest opinion about what I might do to the yard, and even suggested a phased approach, with a little done every year to achieve the "goal".

Last year (2014), I worked with Jon Lee, and noticed a definite decline in responsiveness. I had to follow up a couple times to get a quote.  The quality of the work was still good, though there were a couple small things that didn't get done (and they never came back to finish, despite Jon saying they would).

This year, I decided to give Poul's another chance.  When I called, they told me that I'm now outside their business area, but because I'm a repeat customer, they would give me a quote.

Jon was again assigned.  He came out over a week and a half ago, we discussed what needed to be done this year, and he left promising to e-mail me a quote for the work.  I'm still waiting.

I'm thinking it might be time for me to reevaluate this relationship, which is a bummer - because I was really happy with the first experience.  For the first time since starting my business relationship with Poul's, I'm actually seeking other quotes.

I'd say, if you're within their service area and can work directly with Dan, that would be best.

Why would you go anywhere else besides Poul's? You wouldn't. They are a company small enough to know you by name when you're working on a project and big enough to handle most any job. From the inside office to the guys in the field their professionalism is the best I've seen. Dan came out and walked the property worth me, took measurements and prepared a proposal in writing for me. They handled calling for utilities, and everything in between. They even helped me take some large tree limbs down that were on the brink of falling (no extra charge). Don't go anywhere else, but Poul's. You won't be disappointed

The swale has kept both snow melt and rain deluges from entering our basement ever since.  Our neighbors roof drain water also flows down the swale where it once heavily contributed to our basement flooding through our window wells.  When we were on a remote vacation, O'hare airport near us had a summer deluge that closed their runways and with the Poul Landscaping swale we returned to a dry basement.

Poul's is punctual, professional, does beautiful work, and it is nice to work with such great people.  That said, they are expensive.  Come springtime this year, I will have to assess whether it is worth the cost to keep working with them.  No complaints whatsoever about their service, however -- I have worked with many landscapers over the years and they are top notch.

This is the second project that we have had Poul's do for us.  We have worked with Rick for both of these projects.  He is very knowledgeable and takes the time to discuss options so that the plan that is presented is what you want.
My house is on a corner lot and we decided that we wanted to have more privacy during the winter.  Although this wasn't in the original plan we had worked on a year prior, he was able to fit the items we needed into it.  The project was quickly scheduled and the team finished all the work in one day.  Rick was on site at the beginning of the day to go over where everything was going to go, and to make sure we were still happy with the placement. of all the landscaping.
Although Poul's is not going to be the cheapest estimate you receive, the extra cost is worth it for the quality of the plants that you get, the warranty that goes with those plants, and the quality service you get from them during and after the project.

They did a great job. Their crew was timely, professional, and did high quality work. Their project manager, Dan, came by often to ensure the crew was making progress and to answer any questions we had. We are very happy with the results. There was rotting wood behind the stoop and they arranged for a good carpenter to come and repair to ensure the job was completed properly.

Everything worked out great.  Rick was our primary contact and he showed a great deal of care in each interaction (from the design/consultation stage to the execution).  We worked within a budget and we were pleased with the result.  The team worked efficiently and were courteous in our interactions that day.  The bottom line is that we are planning the "Phase 2" part of the project for 2015 and we are definitely planning to use Poul's.  Highly recommended!
