Poul's Landscaping & Nursery, Inc. is an award-winning landscape design, installation and maintenance contractor serving the northwest suburbs of Chicago for over 50 years. Poul’s is a family owned and operated business providing a complete array of residential landscape services. Poul’s is comprised of three departments: Landscape Maintenance, Landscape Design and Installation and a Wholesale Nursery which installs our locally grown trees. We provide free consultations, estimates and discounts for Angie's List members. Please note that each department has a different service area; please contact us for details. Our Full-Service Maintenance Department services include all weekly lawn maintenance and horticultural services. Some areas of expertise include dormant and summer pruning, mulching, and lawn, tree and shrub care. We also design and install rotating seasonal color displays in containers and planting beds. Property clean-ups and exterior holiday lighting finish out our season. The Design and Construction Division will work with you to create a personalized design to fit your lifestyle and budget. Please note, we have a $3,000 minimum job cost. We take care of the entire project, from permitting through final walk-through. Poul’s guarantees the quality of our stock and workmanship and will continue to be a resource for you long after the installation is complete. Our team of highly skilled and experienced craftsmen install hardscape components that are built to last. Examples of hardscape construction include paver driveways, patios, fire pits, retaining walls, stone masonry, pergolas, decorative boulders and outdoor kitchens. We deliver and install our nursery stock to residential clients. We are available to meet with you (by appointment) in order for you to personally select your own trees and evergreens. Poul's has the following accreditations: Certified Landscape Technician, Certified Arborist, Certified Horticulturist, Licensed Commercial Applicator.

Rick was on time, patient, knowledgeable and no pushy. He answered all my questions and made design revisions until I was satisfied. It looks great! Dan, the owner, personally came by a week later to check it all and give me extra care instruments.

Asked for initial quote and they were very responsive. They have applied two fertilizer applications so far and they are performing weekly cuttings They arrive every week on time. It takes them all of 15-20 min and they seem to do the minimum to get out of there. I'm charged $40 for a very small yard, so based on the amt of time it takes them, it seems like the amt charged is a bit excessive

Overall - an excellent experience. Results are very good. Yard was overgrown with weeds and beds hadn't been edged in at least 6 years.The crew did a great job of weeding, pruning and edging - my yard looked better than it's ever looked when they finished. The next day, they planted 3 large Hemlock trees in back for privacy screening, planting them exactly where I asked. They also designed and planted a large perennial garden (raised) in front, mulched it, etc. A huge improvement - all completed in 2 days! Dan called and scheduled a walk through after all was completed, explaining how to maintain the trees and garden. Very professional, on time - well done.

We originally had Andrew from Poul's Landscaping out in the fall for an estimate but decided to wait until the spring to have the work done. Andrew came out in the spring and revised the work to be done without any complaint. The planning process was very interactive, and we appreciated all of the suggestion being made.
The work is completed now, and we couldn't be happier with the finished product. The new landscaping is beautiful, and the trees were much larger than expected. The process from the original estimate to final clean up could not have gone any smoother.
We highly recommend Poul's to anyone with landscaping needs.

Poul's was knowledgeable (easily identified tree/shrub species) and professional. They were able to quickly respond to my initial inquiry about services that they offered and were able to fit our dormant pruning needs into their schedule which was highly important considering the early warm temperatures. Their team was very thorough and we experienced no collateral damage to plants that were beginning to sprout.

Andrew designed an excellent plan within budget to deal with an over-grown property, using much of the existing plants and trees to minimize cost, and taking into account our particular needs and life-style. This large-scale projcet took seven full days to complete.
The quality of the work was excellent and exceeded expectations. Overall, it was a tremendous value in terms of the quality and quantity of work for the dollar. The work team, led by supervisor, Abel, was at all times friendly, professional and easy to communicate with. Poul's commenced the project on schedule, and was always flexible and willing to work with us to make small modifications and alterations. Andrew visited the property daily to ensure quality and to solicit feedback from us.
The owner, Dan, visited the property after completion of all work to verify satisfaction and to provide detailed instruction for us on maintaining the health of all the varieties of plants. He had his crew return to make minor enhancements to the water feature to improve its aesthetics and functioning.

The crew and company did a great job. They were generally respectful and responsive. The property was a real hazard when we purchased it, and, in a matter of 4-5 weeks, they made it completely wonderful and beautiful, like a park or small arboretum. They also did a few small things without extra charge, like cleaning up under the old playset. They created flower beds and edged around the trees, and mulched everything. The final appearance was clean, neat, and healthy.

After reading many good reviews about their company, we asked Poul's Landscaping to come to our house and give us an estimate on a paver patio and new landscaping for our house. They were very prompt about getting back to us and sent one of their designers, Matt, out within a couple of days. Matt was very engaged and was able to quickly understand what it was we were hoping for. He had great ideas and was very thorough about taking pictures & answering questions before he made a design. He also invited us to other houses where he had done work so that we could see his designs in real life. The design he came back with for us was fantastic, though much higher than our budget. Thankfully, they worked with us on changing the design & materials so that the work fit into our budget. We decided to do the work in phases, beginning with the paver patio.
The crew that came to install the patio was very professional, always arriving on time and staying to work even through cold wind and rain. Each night they cleaned up their work area and protected the patio when bad weather was predicted. The level of detail that they paid attention to on the patio was very impressive. When I saw something that didn't look quite right, they had it fixed without us even having to say something. The end product looks fantastic and we have received lots of compliments on it from our neighbors. We will definitely use them again in the future.

I signed up with Poul's when they ran a spring special where if you signed up for the spring clean-up you got the fall clean-up for free, plus I added the pre-emergent application. The crew showed up when the work needed to be done. They did a fantastic job during the spring clean-up, cleaning out areas on the berms under large pine trees that had not been cleaned up in years. They got all the undergrowth out and dead weeds and grass removed. The planting beds were cleared of last year's dead leaves and a very light trimming was done on evergreens around the house. The landscaped areas looked amazing and the new growth came in so well. Again, they showed up for the pre-emergent treatment and the fall clean-up at the appropriate time. They do a very thorough clean up and haul away of all the trimmings and leaves. I was very happy with the results every time they worked in our yard - the planting areas and berms under the pines really had a very neat and manicured look - my husband and I were happy with the look of the yard all last spring, summer, and fall.

The designer worked with me to find a simple easy to maintain set of plants
The price was in my budget and the work was done in a quality and timely manor
My only issue was that the designer was warned several times of the existence of and location of a buried power line
to the coach light located at the front sidewalk. He apparently didn't supervise his crew well enough to keep them from cutting this wire.
Then per my discussion with him about it over the phone it was apprent to me that he didn't have the knowledge to properly repair the line so I took care of it myself. He did keep pointing out to me that their contract obsolved them of responsibility for underground lines.
However I believe had he stayed with his crew, with the instructions I gave him, this problem could have been avoided.
Inspite of this one issue I intend to have Poul's back to do some winter pruning on my landscape ( all above ground work)

I like what they did. They do a very thorough job. The spring cleanup they did was worth around $800. They are also doing fertilizing the trees but that is through the course of the season. They clean the place up very well. They clear the debris. I would definitely use them again in the future.

I met with Andrew, the landscape designer, who listened to what I had in mind and instantly understood and visualized for me far better than I was able. He came back very quickly with an excellent design that required no changes and exceeded expectations. The work was scheduled and proceeded on schedule very quickly. The crew were hard working, polite, punctual and always cleaned up at the end of each day. At completion of the project, the company owner provided a final walk through along with information on how to take care of all the vegetation. The project was executed with perfection from start to finish. Everyone that I came in contact with at Poul's was very professional and accommodating. I would definitely use this company again and recommend them highly.

I think they did exactly what they said they were going to do. I was overall pleased with them. I would use them in the future. I just had one issue with them where I wanted them to come back and look at a bush and they did not do it. I was not happy with them for that.

They are very knowledgeable. They arrive when they say they will. I completely trust them to complete any work around my pond and have always been helpful with troubleshooting. Unlike other hardscape companies they are always willing to come out and look at any issues.

Overall the project went very well. Everyone that I came in contact with at Poul's was very professional and did a great job. You could tell that they were very invested in doing a great job and were very proud of the work that they did. I would definitely work with this company again on any landscaping projects I have in the future. This project greatly improved the look of the front of our house and I loved spending time in our "new front yard".

They were fine. The people that came to do the work were good. Their follow up was really good. They planted a few trees and told us that if any of them die or if there is some problem with any of them, they will replace them.

Apart from delays in contact due to a member of staff leaving their employment everything else ran like clockwork and was highly professional. Poul's are in a field of their own.... excuse the pun! This is by far the most amiable, competent and professional nursery I have had the pleasure of dealing with and I will most assuredly be returning to them for more assistance in future.
