Three or four weeks ago I discover a water leak in my ceiling. Previously I use Jim Wagner plumbing it was a good experience. So I called them first and explained the situation to the secretary, including the water damage to the dry wall in the ceiling. Gus the plumber came out, we spent maybe 20 minutes trying to figure out what was leaking couldn't pinpoint the exact cause, so he decided that we will need to go through the ceiling. He explained that this would be a $199 extra fee. I was fine with that and he went to his truck to get his tools. He came back with 3 step ladder that barely allowed him to reach the ceiling, I asked where is your ladder? "This was all they give me" he said. I was shaking my head because I told the girl that the leak was in my ceiling and most people know that the ceiling is above your head so why wouldn’t they send a guy that had at least a 6 foot ladder. Well, I have a ladder in my garage and offer to allow him to use that, He asked that I bring it up. So I brought the ladder up to him. After trying to diagnosis the issue, he said that he needed access to the attic because he thought that it was the vent pipe. No problem I told him it was upstairs and he asked me to bring the ladder with me. He got to the attic entrance, stuck his head above looked around and said ok, we need to find out where this pipe is running to, do I have the architect drawings? The house is well over 15 years old and I am not the original owner, why would I have these drawings? So now we have to find the pipe. I helped him pull out the washer, he cut into the drywall but the vent pipe was not accessible from there. He tells me that the pipe is behind the bathroom vanity and he will make a quote. I had no problem with that. He came back with a quote of $1496 plus the $250 service fees. I thought that was a little high, he explained that the vanity would have to be pulled from the wall, the drywall cut into again and the pipe repaired. Well I was going to remodel the bathroom so I declined his service and paid him the $250 service fee. What I didn't know at the time was how difficult it was to hire a contractor to remodel the bathroom in a quick period of time. So I call Jim Wagner and told them that I would agree to the cost of the repair that I was quoted. The morning of my appointment Gus the plumber called to ask me if I pulled off the vanity from the wall. I told him no but that was part work in your original quote. He then started arguing with me that I was going to hire a contractor to remodel the bathroom, even though the quote was created before he even knew that I was considering remodeling the bathroom. Both he and the office girl told me I was responsible to removing the vanity. Ughhhhh, I told them to cancel my service call I will go to another plumber. I just hate being jacked around and that's what Jim Wagner plumbing did. I suggest you only call this company as a very last resort.
"As I said on yelp in regard to this customers review, we appreciate your feed back. This is a touchy situation we deal with as service providers. Do we carry 6' ladders? Yes we do, but what the plumber decides to use is entirely up to him. A 6' A frame ladder may not have been needed and often will not open in the space allowed. The plumber is 6' tall and he may feel more comfortable on his 3' ladder. The customer is always right. We do a lot of training to communicate with customers on how to tell them that "we got this" After all that's why we were called. So to say he didn't have one becomes a issue on account of reading a review like this we check, and like all of our trucks he has all of his ladders. So I asked the plumber and he replied "if that's what I need then that's what I use" So we appreciate your feed back. The vanity wasn't ever a issue the 3 foot by 7 foot mirror is what we actually wanted removed. We also are plumbers and if you have a vanity that you want to re use and is large, we will sometimes suggest having a carpenter remove it so we don't damage it. We asked you the morning of the appointment if the vanity and mirror were removed and you said to remove the vanity and break the mirror out. Now breaking a mirror out is un safe to me and not something we do. Like you said you could not find someone to remodel the bathroom. If we knew we could have referred you one. I think rating our service a "F" based on what you would do, and what we do is a little un fair. We will train better to clearly communicate not to schedule a appointment unless the steps by others are completed before hand. Thank you JWP."
"Thank you for the review. We do recognize tubs and showers being a issue, on account of the valve and all the piping is actually inside the wall. If you want just the cosmetic what you see trim pieces replaced that is defiantly a lot less labor and expensive to replace. If you hand us the fixture and trim pieces to install we will see if the new will fit the existing. sometimes the pieces have to be looked at. I would rather have our plumber just call our kohler rep. Yes I know it is hard to believe when boxes are open and all the parts may not be in there. That's why we check. Kohler sells a rough in valve that many of there trim kits fit so with the 1000 of shower faucets out there, there are some we haven't installed before. It sounds like our visit showed you not to install the actual fixture in the wall but just the visible trim pieces. - JWP"
