Despite several calls to the business, they never returned calls as
promised, to schedule another time to come out and fix the problem.  I still don't have a working light and will have to hire another company to come out and take care of the persisting problem  Do NOT use this company!

Let me first say that around 2008 I used this company and they were great.  The workers were
professional and did a great job.  That being said I contacted them for more work in May of 2013.  I wanted them to re-route my underground electric service to my garage and to break up a circuit that I frequently overload.

Frank came out and gave me an estimate which was reasonable.  I was clear in what I wanted done and also
expressed my desire to have it done with permits.
The work began as scheduled.  The circuit that was supposed to be split up to alleviate it was split up but in a ridiculous way.  For example I now have a bedroom with two dedicated circuits for outlets.  So although they did what they said they were
going to do they did it in a way that was easy for them and really not helpful to me and my overloaded circuit. Unfortunately I did not check the contract well enough to realize that the discussion I had with Frank did not translate as I had planned to the
contract.  This is my fault.
The entry of the re-routed underground piping to the garage was poorly done in that I had to custom cut the new siding on my garage in order to accommodate the conduit to come up into the wall.
I asked about the inspection with the city and they stated that they thought I did not want a permit. It took them a long, long, long time to get the permits and the work failed inspection for overloaded junction boxes, for using drywall type screws to fasten on junction box covers and also using the wrong type of underground conduit.
A few days after the work was completed my garage circuit began randomly popping.  I called them back out and they stated there was nothing really to do and if it continued to call them back.  I dug up the conduit myself and observed that it had been compromised by most likely a reciprocating saw and was full of water.  I pulled the wires out of the underground conduit and observed that the internal wires had also been cut and hastily taped over where the saw had cut the pipe!
I hired what I though was a professional company to do the work as I wanted to follow the city rules. In the end I ended up fixing what they did wrong myself.
I would never recommend or use this company again.
Please note that there are several Hoeksema electric companies and some of them are related by blood.  Some of them may be quality reputable companies.  Just not this one.

It took 2 days for the electrician and a helper (who was called in on one day) to "complete" the work. All of the supplies needed were not brought to the site, the manager Lisa was indifferent when the quality and time it took to complete the work was questioned. Because the work was literally hacked in, we called another electrician to assess the work. Holes were punched into the walls to run bx even though there was easy access below to run wires properly, the extra circuits were not provided, the wiring was not hooked up correctly, the wiring was not grounded, there were no connectors on the fans, the hole for the kitchen fan was hacked in so much that the trim would not cover it. We were charged extra hours (4 x $95 per hour) for extra work that was not performed. We were told, "the workmanship was terrible and the electrician had no idea what he was doing." We ended up paying another electrian $2,000 to fix the mess in addition to having the ceiling repaired. It was a disappointing and emotionally draining experience and delayed the remodel significantly.

The electrician was not very responsive. They told me over the phone that they could do the work I wanted and then when the electrician arrived, he said he could not do part of it because they wouldn't have the part. So only half of the things I wanted done, got done. He took a long time to do the rest of the work, made a mess, did a mediocre job and charged me too much. Very annoying.

Overall, my experience was very negative. Three electricians spent about three days in my new house working on the electrical. After the work was "complete" according to them, I called the office manager, Cheryl, to discuss the work. My husband and I had multiple questions about the work that was done. In addition, their work did not pass the village inspection. The work did not seem to be complete and was sloppy. Many wires were left hanging out of walls, junction boxes were not capped off, some off-branded breakers were used instead of Siemens (which I was quoted), the inspector had to tighten multiple set screws that they left loose. Not to mention, the electricians left the old wires and romex laying around. It was left SO sloppy. In addition, multiple Starbucks cups were left around my house. Despite multiple attempts to reach Cheryl including multiple messages left with Joy, the receptionist, Cheryl only called and left a voice message for me once. She was never there when I called, generally around 10:30/11am or early afternoon. The most infuriating thing was that Cheryl sent me the bill for the balance due after she knew I was not satisfied with the work. I needed to talk with her! When I called back again to attempt to reach her, she was on vacation for a week. At which point, I asked to talk with someone else, Joy referred me to Joe Welgos, who was the supervisor/estimator for my project. Joe called me right back and was apologetic. He met me at the house a few days later (I wished it was sooner) to walk me through the work. He also fixed the problems from the inspection, and cleaned up the work site. I was finally satisfied with the finished product, but am completely disappointed with the lack of communication and follow-up from Hoeksema, in particular from their office. For almost $6,000, I expect a high level of professionalism and a high-quality finished product. My parents recommended them, but I would never recommend them to anyone. It was a big headache. I finally did call Cheryl and reached her. She apologized for the situation, but did not take accountability. She claims that she thought someone else called me back. It's a small shop, so I am not sure how that could happen!

They stuck to the quoted price for the work, even though there was more work required than what they had expected, due to some unforseen oddities in the way my house was constructed. They did additional work at reasonable rates. They were pretty careless about the mess they made and about leaving things safe for my 3 young kids when they left at night. They came late, left early, and sometimes didn't show up without informing us of that in advance. They left cigarette butts in my driveway and the street in front of my house. They told me the job would take 5-8 days, but it took 3 weeks. In spite of repeated efforts to get a schedule from them, I never got one so it was completely chance whether they even showed up or not. Responsiveness varied during the job. I had misplaced Joe's phone number and sent emails 3 days in a row asking him to call me to discuss some issues, but he never did. However, he did come out on a Saturday to discuss my concerns after the first week of work. Overall, I believe they did quality work at a decent price, but the process was beyond frustrating and required more of my time than it should have.

They were very good. We had them install a lot of vintage lighting for us. They also put a base heater on the front porch, so that we could use it during different seasons. Their professionalism was good. They were very good whenever they had to deal with our electricity. They had to be very careful, as we have a very old house where the wiring is really old. They were pretty punctual. I never felt frustrated or didn?t have any dissatisfaction. The quality of their work was good. They fixed our lighting fixture, as it used to give us a lot of trouble before and it always seemed like something was blowing out. The fixture is almost 100 years old and now all the lights are working. The price charged by them was affordable. It could have been cheaper and that?s why we didn?t have them do the electrical work for our entire house. I would use their services again in the future, if needed.

I have used Hoeksema since about 2003, when on the recomendation of my contractor neighbor, I hired them rewire the first floor of my house and upgrade my electric service to 200 amps. They have always been prompt. They have always cleaned up after themselves. The cost of the work has ALWAYS come in at or under their estimate. In this case they installed a ceiling fan, which we discovered was missing a part, which meant that they had to make a second visit to complete the installation. Not only did they not charge us for the second vist, but they performed the remaining work in 15 minutes time. They discovered that the electrical outlet which needed repair was never hooked up when they rewired the house, so they complete that repair with no charge to us. I highly recommend this company and will definately use them again.

I have used them for about twenty years. They always do a good job. They always do what I ask them to do. They are very punctual. They were able to run that line off of an old line that was not being used. They found a way to make the cost cheaper for me.

Henry and Frank arrived a little before 7:30am to begin work and were gone by 3:00pm. I was notified when power was being turned off and turned back on. The utility room to my house is reachable only from the backyard so they worked diligently "outside" to install the breaker and the lightening rod. After completing the outside work - they moved inside to install the new circuit for the kitchen (for the microwave) and checked and corrected the areas I was concerned with which included the kitchen wall switch, and the light over the kitchen sink. They also made all the outlets GFI in my kitchen. One bathroom GFI was re-installed. All through this, my questions were answered about how did that happen? What they were doing? and What about this? as they worked. We also discussed lighting issues I am facing in the family/dining/living rooms of my house - but these areas will be worked on in the future - but the insight was great.

I was very satisfied. They even broke the work down into two separate contracts if I had wanted to do it at separate times. They told me in advance how long it would take (one day) and 4 workmen arrived on time the scheduled day and had the work completed as promised. They added an extra outlet in the basement as needed without additional charge. A coupon for a 10% discount arrived with the written estimate. I have hired them for smaller jobs since then.

Well, they did badly. At first the quoted me like $775, but when they came out, they changed the speculation of the job. They left on the job and did not say anything to me. They did not even show me what they did. The switch I had in the house for the garage didn't work when they left. They had to come back out. Then, I got a bill for $1800. They did take some of that off. They never gave me an explanation why it went up. They did send me time cards put into hours. I guess that was their way of estimating. Another thing, I went outside and the outlet did not work. It had a safety switch and it needed to be reset. I did not know that. I was very disappointed. They did do a nice job cleaning up. I would say just to make sure if you use them you get an estimate in writing. I am just happy to be done with them.

Three electricians arrived at my home promptly and on time. They were all very courteous and respectful. Before beginning the work, one of the gentleman and I went over the proposal and each line item that was going to be completed. There were no surprises. Work was completed as specified on the proposal. The price was exactly as quoted. All work was completed in 6 hours.

Technician arrived on the scheduled date. I explained the problem and he began work to diagnose and fix it. He was very professional and courteous while he worked. It took him several hours to finish, but it was somewhat complex. He checked a number of wires in the problem area in order to ensure that he had fixed everything.

After a year of the electric on-demand hot water heater being on the fritz, I finally realized that Hoeksema did not ground it correctly. I could get into the details of the improper grounding, however, I eventually purchased a current meter to demonstrate the Hoeksema that there was current flowing through the ground they had installed. The electric water heater has sensitive electronic controls and was never able to operate properly because it was never grounded. Once I removed the redundant ground from the neutral bus and connected it to ground it work fine. The situation was brought to the attention of Hoeksema. Even after witnessing the reading on the current meter, they still insist it was wired properly. They even went as far as to blame the local utility supplier for voltage fluctuations. As they have not offered to take accountability, we've got a date in small claims court.

The whole job was great. I have outdoor lighting on bushes and trees. Steve, the electrician, was excellent. He was very thorough and explained all the alternatives- and there were a lot of them. We decided to do a repair with more robust materials than had been used in the last two repairs, so this one should last longer. Making the appointment was easy and the work was done well. Steve was polite, friendly, and very well informed. I highly recommend.

We purchased 3 Casablanca ceiling fans for my mother in law, but didn't have the time or inclination to install them ourselves. Hoeksema was recommended to us by another tenant in her building, and they were able to come out 3 days after being contacted. The fans themselves were easy to install, but the control boxes were a little complicated, and they very patiently explained how to use the switches to my mother-in-law and me. Nice service.
