Zach arrived at 2:45pm, asked me a couple of questions about my furnace's operation, and promptly went to work. I told him I had already changed out the furnace filter, and also that I was planning to replace the saddle T on the humidifier, so he didn't need to check those items. He worked on the furnace for a good half-hour. I appreciated that he itemized the things that were done on the invoice. All in all, a good experience.

"A Trane furnace, air conditioner, electronic air cleaner and a STEAM humidifier (requested by the wife) where installed 8/18/08. All of the equipment installed is recommended by the manufactures to be cleaned and serviced every year. We did a cleaning of the furnace and air cleaner only on 11/13/09. Four years later during the deep freeze of 2014 we receive a call that the furnace was not heating. Our company, along with all other HVAC companies, receive emergency calls caused by the fresh air intakes icing over during the extreme cold. The quick fix so that our customers could have heat was to disconnect the combustion air pipe, this was only temporary until Trane gave us a solution. This the customer did. During this conversation we informed the customer that they needed to have the equipment maintained to keep the warranty valid. On 1/20/14 we cleaned the furnace, air cleaner and steam humidifier, we reconnected the combustion air pipe and made the adjustments that Trane outlined for the issue. All were working in good order when the service tech. left. $98.00 clean & check furnace, $45.00 to clean air cleaner, $45.00 to clean steam humidifier, no charge for the combustion air issue. 3 days later we receive a call from a man, who would not give us his name until we asked 3 times. He said that the humidifier light for service was on and that he would not be available till 1/29/14 for us to come back out to service it. On 1/27/14 we informed the customer that steam humidifiers have plates/filters that need to be replace on a yearly to every other year basis, that it is part of maintenance not a "part that fails every two years" and that we had ordered it. We did not do this at time of service because it was working properly and it would have been an additional charge. At this time the customer became upset again and did not want to pay for the humidifier plates/filter . Mr. Krope tried to explain the steam humidifier maintenance and other charges, but the customer believed he was more knowledgeable. As for the claim that you "found out" that the air cleaner was not cleaned we not sure how you came to that conclusion. Mr. Krope did not offer a full refund for the service call but for the cleaning of the steam humidifier $45.00. Thank you for bringing it to our attention that you have not received a check, one will be mailed to you with a copy of this response on Angie's list. We would like to state again that regular maintenance is recommended by ALL manufactures of HVAC equipment to keep in good working order."

They also walked us through the rebate process with Comed and Nicor, and even intervened with the fulfillment center on our behalf, getting the rebate, which was being held up, released. Great after the fact support.
