The word “boot camp” is a misunderstood term. It brings to mind images of military fatigues, angry drill sergeants screaming at terrified young recruits, and bare knuckle living conditions.

I scheduled my classes online from their website. I saw that all the desirable (for me) classes filled up quickly, so I decided to schedule all my classes at once to be sure I would get the days I wanted. My coupon was good for unlimited classes within a 30 day period, so I scheduled Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday classes for 4 weeks in a row. My trainer for most of the classes was Damon, and I felt he was excellent. On my first day he introduced himself and asked if I had done a boot camp before. When I said I hadn't, he explained it was not like an Army boot camp, there was no yelling or screaming, and that I should not over-challenge myself, just push myself to the limit I felt comfortable with. He emphasized that in almost every class - don't hurt yourself, just push yourself. He also showed alternatives to some of the exercises in case someone was unable to do the original one. A typical class started with a warm-up of jogging in place, jumping jacks, and squats. Then there were between 6-12 stations, depending on how many people were there. Each station worked a different part of the body. Some example stations are: push-ups, balancing on a half ball while lifting hand weights, lifting kettle balls, and ropes. There was a lot of variety, both within a circuit, and from day to day. We would do the circuit 2-3 times, take a break to drink water, then so the circuit again (with some variations) 2-3 more times. As Damon (and their website) said it wasn't like an Army boot camp at all - no one yelled at you, no jogging outside, etc., just pushing yourself in some pretty difficult exercises. Damon would correct your form on an exercise when necessary, which I liked. Not only would that keep me from possibly hurting myself, but it helped me get the most benefit. I noticed some of the other participants apparently felt some exercises were too easy, so they would add higher weights or do something else to challenge themselves more. So the exercises were clearly adaptable for people at every fitness level. At the end of the class we did hard core abdominal work. Each class lasted 45 minutes - and they start on time, so don't be late! I definitely found some of the exercises easier as I went along, which means I actually built muscle!. Some of the exercises killed me every time - mostly any core exercises. But, that's why I was there! The classes did not seem over-crowded, even though I know a lot of people were redeeming the online special that I got. Eventually they put up a sign that online special people would have to be put on a waiting list so they could accommodate their regular customers, which I consider to be perfectly reasonable. A lot of people showed up un-scheduled, and Damon tried to accommodate them, but did have to turn some away due to the classes being full. I do recommend this Boot Camp. Just remember: always schedule your classes. They cannot necessarily accommodate walk-ins. If you schedule yourself for a Saturday class and do not show up or call to cancel, they WILL cancel all your scheduled classes for the next week. Saturday is their most popular day, and if you don't cancel you are taking a spot someone else could have used, which is rude. I feel that canceling someone's classes for the rest of the week is rather harsh, but then again I bet no one did a no-call/no-show more than once! I also think Damon would put them back on the schedule if they asked nicely (and he had room). At the moment I believe the prices are $79.99/ month for unlimited classes, $69.99/ month for 3 classes per week, and $59.99/month for 2 classes per week. If things were not so tight with us financially right now, I would consider signing up for them -- a bit too pricey for me, although really it breaks down to $7.50 per class for 2 per week, and less than $6.00 per class for 3 per week. I believe there is no contract to sign, like with health clubs (I could be wrong). If that's true, that is a huge plus to me.
