Installation performed by 3 men with thick accents. Said it would take 2 days but they completed in 1 day. Later in the year the wood pieces started to bow and shift on the floor creating large gaps. This contractor will not return calls or emails once they get your money. I was at Lumber Liquidator branch 295 and listened as one of their salesmen left Liviu (owner of the flooring company) a very loud and stern request telling him to call us. Nothing happened. Lumber Liquidator sent an inspector over and the report came back detailing very shoddy workmanship. Staples at 52" vs. standard 12", ends of some boards not stapled, Improper wood cuts and improper expansion around a banister. As our attorney has indicated, this report is very damning and will speak for itself.
From what a salesman Lumber Liquidators indicated this company may be calling themselves Art Décor and the present time but they are still listed as being out of Lindenhurst
We will now have to hire another contractor to repair this mess and let our attorney handle getting our those costs remedied through a legal action
Installation took 2-3 days; we had an argument about how the stairs should be installed at the top.
They cut the stairs back too short (another story in itself) and wanted to leave the 2nd floor carpeting hanging over the top stair and the flooring starting on the 2nd step. It made the top and 2nd step very, very short and narrow; very much a falling hazard. At first everything "was impossible" to do differently, but I persisted and the foreman finally agreed to change it to my specifications.
I am very disappointed that they installed the flooring between the living room and the rest of the 1st floor (a small townhouse) with dividers, instead of making it all one flowing floor, from one room to the next (there are no doors). It doesn't make sense why it was done that way. But, that was the least of my complaints.
When the trim around the stairs was installed, there was a hideous, uneven vertical section on the outer wall of 3 pieces of white wood in different widths and lengths, right by the front entryway where it would be constantly visible. It was near the bottom of the stairs, where they curved around to meet the first floor. It literally looked like a child had hammered them onto the wall any which way. It took a lot of arguing to get that changed...I had to call the owner to come out to look at it, as the workers claimed it was impossible to do it differently (which to me, means they don't want to do it differently, just get it over with as fast as possible). First, they tried to tell me it would look fine once the trim was painted, but that would definitely not cover the fact that it was 3 differently sized crooked pieces, where one straight piece would work if done correctly. Even after the owner told them to change it, I still had to argue with the installer. It was a simple matter of sanding down an edge slightly and fitting one piece of trim over it.
It seems to me that a flooring company should have at least one finish carpenter to do these things correctly, or at least, supervise. I was told that no, none of them were carpenters, they only install flooring. If that was the case, then why did they contract to install all the trim as well? They refused to install new sidewalls on the stairs (claiming they would have to rebuild the entire staircase, which is completely false). So, I have old beat-up sidewalls next to new flooring. After the fact, I found out it actually would have been an easy installation, but they just didn't know how or didn't want to do it. I found them very uncooperative and unwilling to do things differently.
The trim around the rest of the flooring was done inconsistently, with some pieces not cornered (miter joints) well at all and some pieces not even nailed or glued down. We had to finish that ourselves when we discovered that...I really didn't want them back in my house after all the fiascos.
I found the workers rude and sullen from the beginning, so I tried to stay out of their way, which was a big mistake. Thankfully I caught the details about the top stair and the stair trim in time. Language was a big barrier, because all but one worker spoke only Russian. The rest of the flooring is fairly OK, but the glaring details still bug me (especially the short stairs and the room divider pieces). The flooring around the fireplace/mantle surround is also not very good.
The reason I give them an F for responsiveness is that three pieces of stair bullnose have fallen off 9 months later (no holding tracks were installed at all, so they are only held on by glue). I have spoken to them about this and sent a text to the owner, but they are not responding whatsoever. Guarantees and warranties mean nothing to them. I had to hire another person to inspect the stairs and re-install the bullnose. After having the repair done, I found out that the stairs and flooring was installed with a lot of mistakes: the flooring is not level, it's missing necessary pieces, transitions were done incorrectly, etc., which is no surprise. I definitely do not recommend A to Z Flooring. Save yourself a load of headaches and hire someone with integrity and proper training.
Their work looks spectacular and they were conscientious about making sure "small" pieces like the cable chord and vents were handled as best as possible. Their manager came to check in on the installation and progress of job as well.
In addition, they were careful about putting the furniture back and cleaning the work area. I was very pleased with the job and their work.
They sent out their subcontractor A To Z Flooring for measuring and install.
After a month or so of doing other construction in our house to prepare first, A to Z was contacted to go ahead with the job.
They unfortunately lost the measurements for a couple of days and then found them but still had to come out to remeasure since they combined all the measurements together. They had no idea on what to order or tell me.
I was told they would be able to pick up the flooring from Lumber Liquidators. This was not the case as they explained that they don't really like to do this.
Lumber Liquidators told me this was false and they just did not want to do it.
I would have paid a fee, that would not have been a issue.
They wanted to charge me a almost two hundred dollars to install a half hours worth of floor board that they also refused to pick up.
Finally, there were to two pieces of furniture in the room that they stated they would slide over.
Since they were not given the floorboard job, they decided to raise the price by 50.00 for moving the furniture to another room which NEVER took place.
I ended up having to write two separate checks.
Then they refused to take with the small amount of flattened boxes away unless I wanted to pay a extra charge.
I have no problem with Lumber Liquidators but there is NO WAY I can recommend A To Z as they nickel and dime the customer to death.
Very Unfair.
