It wasn't a great experience. We got 4 estimates for a total rehab on our basement. He talked a really good game. He came with a drawing of our basement that was unbelievable. We were really impressed. He was $10,000 less than the other bids. The communication was terrible with the sub contractors. They did not speak English and if there was a problem, it wasn't taken care of in a timely manner. The basement is beautiful, but the process was horrendous. He was supposed to put in a sump pump, which he didn't. He deducted the price, but after the work was done, what can you do? He would tell the sub contractors one thing and tell us something else. We never knew who or when they would be coming. They were not supposed to paint and they did. You can't undo that. The project was started in January and didn't finish until May. We thought he was gone and we didn't pay the final payment. He called a month later to see where his money was and we told him that the project wasn't done, so he and his workers had to come back to finish. His workers were not very happy about it.

Bill was a partner in the firm that did both of our kitchen remodels, and he has since set up his own business. A cold call from his office, at the time of our basement estimates, led to our meeting with him. He prepared a detailed estimate, but his price was $10K higher than our 4 other bids. Additionally, we felt he used a bit more pressure in trying to close the deal than the others. Specifically, he remarked, "I'll be lucky to make a profit on this bid." Well, we didn't ask him to low-bid, or not make a profit. Comments like that led us to believe we weren't the best fit. In his defense, we knew he had some personal things happening that were making his business work a bit more complicated. In the end, we did not use him for this task, but his previous partnership/firm did excellent work on our kitchens.
