I began the process in the fall - November. He cleaned my gutters first and I paid him - but just days later was looking more closely at some of the hard to reach gutters and noticed they weren't cleaned at all. He told me they must have re-filled up. I contracted with him in December to paint my house. Each week, he would tell me he would do it soon, but nothing happened. In Mid January he finally came clean and told me he needed some start up money in advance to get equipment. I paid him. In Mid march, nothing still had been done, except now he had my money. He would come over periodically to "make sure" he knew which walls and ceilings to paint, even though I had given him a detailed list. Each time, he would be "surprised" at one of the areas I pointed out for him to paint and want to charge me more for the extra area. I would point out on the paper I had given him where it was written down, and he would give me a blank stare. I don't think he can read, unfortunately. I had to call him in the end and give him an ultimatum - paint by the next two weeks or I would want my money back. He spent a few days at my house painting, accomplishing about 30% of the work. On the walls he painted, there were multiple missed spots and paint splotches on the woodwork and floors. I pointed these out to him and he said he would correct them. He did not. At the end of the two weeks I gave him another ultimatum - leave my house key on my counter whether he was finished by the next Monday or not. He left the key. He was in no way finished. In fact, with the paint spatters everywhere, he had done more harm than good. I invited my friends over for a paint party and we did the whole thing over again in an afternoon. Harry seems like he is living on very little and needs the job. Given the hand written reciepts he gave me, I think he is dyslexic/illiterate. I put up with the delays and all because I wanted to give him a chance - I wasn't in a hurry to get the work done. Unfortunately, he took advantage of my good nature and was not prepared to do the work he was paid to do.
Description of Work: This handyman left flyers for me, cold called me, and advertises in the local paper. I hired him to clean my gutters and paint the interior of my house.
