Howard is great. He listens to what we would like to do and then makes suggestions on how to do it best or more cost effectively. He was very polite and my wife was always comfortable when he was around. there was never any cleanup once he left, even when significant wallboard cutting was involved. After the second job my painter asked, "where did you find a drywall guy willing to come out and do such good patch work on such a small job?"
We are about to install a generator and remodel the basement. He has stopped out 3 times to help me plan the job, explain how we can get the most out of the generator while remaining within code, and even took the time to suggest lighting, outlet and switch layouts.
Howard ran to Ace hardware (a mile away) to get the right switch and came back quickly. He explained the type of switch he bought and why he chose that over other styles.
He arrived at 9am and had the job finished and cleaned up by 11:15am. The last 15 minutes he was drilled by my father in law (who is quite handy, just not very electrical) on what he was doing, tools he used, and the choices he made. Again, Howard was friendly and courteous.
I am VERY please with the job he did and would ABSOLUTELY recommend him. We have a couple other electrical jobs we need done and we will absolutely call him again.
detector didn’t get power.
I began asking our IT Manager at work about three-way switches and he immediately gave me the name and number for Howard Goldberg. Normally, he would just tell me how to fix the problem myself. I called Howard on a Tuesday and he came out the next day. It took him about thirty minutes to diagnosis and solve the problems I had created by replacing the switches but wiring them exactly as they had been rather than correctly as the new switches required the red, white, and black wires to be connected differently. Howard corrected all of this, checked all my wiring’s connections, re-installed the upstairs smoke detector, and checked my downstairs smoke detector. He finished it off by fixing the three-way switches in the kitchen.
I first met Howard at work when he ran a new circuit in a wiring closet during the installation of fiber to the building. It’s an industrial wiring closet, so you need to know what you’re doing. The wiring rack is taller than I am. So I have seen him work in a business and residential setting.
He stayed well over an hour at my house, giving me tips on wiring and the trades and making sure everything was working correctly. Keep in mind, he drove all the way from Libertyville, IL to Kenosha, WI to take this job.
Definitely use him. I am thrilled to have found him. I will use him again for other projects. If you are in a residential or business setting and you need electrical work done at an extremely fair price, get Howard. My entire bill was $135.00. He could have easily charged more and I would have been happy. I’ve found my new electrician. If you need someone good, give him a call right away. I’ve already told two people at my job who are going to ask him to do residential work.
Fast forward to April, and here come the heavy rains. Our new-to-us home took on water and everything that was in the finished basement that had just gotten unpacked, got packed back up and moved into the garage . After a few weeks of cleanup and demo, we got a few quotes for installation of a sump pump and learned that we had to have a dedicated circuit for the sump, which meant we had to get an outlet nearby and wire pulled back to the electric panel.
We checked Angie's List, called two highly rated electrical contractors in our area to estimate this small job, and one was Howard. Howard's bid was slightly lower than the competitor's and since he had favorable reviews, along with the fact that he made the first step to introduce himself back in October, we decided to go with him. We're glad we did.
In scoping out the job, Howard indicated that he would install the conduit and pull the wires needed for the sump pump. He also mentioned that he would pull a couple extra strands of wire for any future eletrical needs.
On the afternoon of install, I took off from work so that I could be available if any questions were needed. Ok, I wanted to watch what was being done (I have little practical electrical experience). Howard wasn't bothered by my presence nor my questions. Along the way, Howard explained what he was doing, which I really appreciated. He was very careful in his work and took the time to ensure that the conduit run was straight, even though it is in the crawl space. I'm confident that Howard would have been that careful with his work even if I wasn't in the crawl space with him. :)
The last thing I'd like to mention is that Howard took the time to fix something in the electrical panel that wasn't part of the original job, but that he had found when he opened it up. And he didn't even charge me for it!
He even helped us decide what we needed in the bathroom. He suggested the tile heater mat which is great on a cold day in Chicago--plus he explained we didn't need sconces and overhead lights at the mirror. He put a light in the shower, several can lights around the room and multiple GFI outlets for those pesky curling irons, toothbrushes and blow dryers.
He did an excellent job--and while he was here finishing things up--I mentioned a plug that wasn't working in my bedroom. He rewired the box and fixed it without charging me extra! He's not the cheapest out there--but he's fairly priced and he doesn't mind checking things out without charging you. I consider him an excellent electrician and a great tradesman. I would highly recommend him to anyone who wants the job done right the first time.
When we get ready to do the rest of the basement, we'll be calling him--even though there are all sorts of deals through Angie's List, Groupon, Living Social, and so on. I trust Howard absolutely and his work.
