My car needed an oil change, and it was the weekend. My regular shop was closed. I took the car to CarX because I had good experience with them many years ago. The service was good, and they did not try to sell me a lot of other services. Good rating for the basic service. Not sure how they would do with something more complex.

I Went to the carX @ 311 s. Milwaukee, Libertyville IL (847)367-8688. Presented the "Groupon" asked for the oil change, but said I don't need the tire rotation because I am going to buy tires tomorrow, I told him I know I have a broken belt on one of my tires. And I would like to know which tire has the broken belt by just spinning the wheel by hand while up on the lift. The manager acknowledged that he understood and said OK. I also asked what the upgrade price was for synthetic oil knowing there is an added above the standard oil that comes with the oil change. He replied $44,... WHAT!?!? I was taken back! that is the cost beyond what I had already paid?I reluctantly agreed, but Hold on, It got worse! Long story short these guys ended up rotating my tires even after I had asked them not too! But even more they ended up RE-BALANCING my tires! I had definitely not asked for this! Why would I? MY TIRES are being replaced tomorrow! The new tires will need to be balanced! My gosh they charged me pretty much the full price of a Synthetic oil change! On my way home I called the carX in the next town over @1557 Lake St. Mundelein (847)949-9500 a synthetic oil change is $49.95 with either Mobil 1 or Pennzoil it was my choice! See with the "groupon" I already paid for 5 quarts and a filter, I was prepared to pay $25 more to offset the added $3 or so that Synthetic oil would cost a layman per quart but not nearly $9 per quart! (actual $8.80) I had to pay them $80 above and beyond the $25 I already paid for the "Groupon" This Oil Change cost me $105 for something I normally do myself for just north of $25. This is in no way ethical! These guys up-sell like you wouldn't believe. a coupon is just an excuse to get you in the door so they can "have their way with you"
