Starter replacement went fine. No complaints. I feel that our gear shift knob was damaged during the repair process. Photos attached. The leather has significantly deteriorated and is not in the same condition as when we brought it it. We discussed it with the owner and he said that he did not do it and that it must have been in poor condition when we brought it in. He said that it was an old car and that there was no way he caused the deterioration. He said that he would think about it and call us but never called us.

New to the area last year. You need a good Doctor, Dentist and Mechanic when you move, right? Have had many things done including minor and major work on different family cars. Actually told once on a pre-trip inspection everything looked fine and only a minor charge for inspect. Honest? I think so. Services done in timely manner, yes. Price? I felt I paid a fair price for some good work. I'm fully satisfied.

I have been using them for going on 20 years. The quality of the service is outstanding. It is not the cheapest but it is excellent service. I have been happy with them for years and years and cars and cars.

I had bought my tires from them about a year earlier. They repaired my tires. They also did some other repairs while my car was in the shop. They're not out to take advantage of you and will give you the right advice.

Hawkeye always takes great care of me.  They do only the work that is needed, and never try to upsell you.  I feel like they are honest people and are trying hard to earn my business.
I brought my Tahoe in because my front brakes were squealing really badly, and my truck was unstable after going over bumps.  It turns out that I had a brake caliper seized and my tie rods were shot.  They got everything replaced and upgraded quickly.
The only knock I have for Hawkeye is their hours.  They are only open on weekdays from 7am - 6pm (no weekend hours).  This makes it very difficult for me to get my car in for minor service.

That worked out fine. Unfortunately, a few miles later the check engine came on again and I had to go back there and they told me some wire attached to the oxygen sensors on my car failed which I don't really believe, I think they screwed something up. I'm never going to take my car back there again. 120,000 miles on the car these wires were fine, all of a sudden it goes to their garage and 20 miles later these wires melt, I don't buy it. I didn't have a good experience with Hawkeye Automotive. The pricing was good but if I take my car to you and you screw something else up and then you charge me more money to fix that, you're never going to see me again.
Response from Hawkeye Automotive
"Sorry to hear that you are not happy with our service. To clarify what happened. 1). Vehicle came in for camshaft position sensor failure on 10/19/12. We replaced both camshaft sensors per Nissan Technical Service Bulletin. 2). We Repaired burnt wires on oxygen sensors on 11/2/12. With the repairs that were performed originally, is no where near the oxygen sensor wires. Broken plastic clips were the reason for the burnt wires. When we saw the vehicle on 10/19, that was the first time we saw the vehicle/customer. Since the vehicle had a camshaft code initially, the vehicle could not run the oxygen sensor monitors because of an engine performance issue, so we had no way on telling if there was an oxygen sensor concern, and there were no pending or history codes in the vehicles computer about an oxygen sensor issue. Furthermore, in order to do the camshaft sensors, the vehicle doesn't have to be raised off of the ground. The oxygen sensor wires that were burnt through are underneath the vehicle at the flex pipe area. I do apologize that you feel this way, but our reputation is the best in the area based on our reviews and the customer service that we give to our customers. The one thing that is very interesting, why did it take 8 months to give a response???????? I would appreciate a response so that I can do what ever is necessary to clear up some confusion. I would highly recommend Hawkeye Automotive to anyone in need of automotive repairs or service.  We have used this shop in the past, but have been fortunate enough not to need too many repairs.  In late Fall, my vehicle was stuck in park (gear shift wouldn't move) and I had it towed to Hawkeye.
Matt called me later that day to let me know they could not get my car to "act up" again and that it could be one of two things.  I came to pick up the car, he showed me where the over-ride button is & how to use it if my car was to stick in park again.  He also gave me specific instructions of what to listen and watch for if it "stuck" again. They could use that info to determine the specific problem and not charge me for an unneccessary repair.  My bill when I left that day from Hawkeye was $0, even though Matt and his mechanics had clearly spent time with my car and instructing me.  Over the next few months my car did act up, I would use the override switch so I was never stranded, and I was able to obtain more specific info on how and when it happened.
I recently brought my vehicle to the actual dealer, not Hawkeye automotive, for a minor recall item to be fixed.  While in the waiting room they brought out a list of many items they felt I needed (brake fluid flush, power steering flush, fuel flush, new brakes, etc) totaling over $1000.  I declined the additional work and just had the recall item fixed.  I called Matt at Hawkeye after getting home and discussed the items the dealer recommended, along with how many miles I had on my car and how much longer I planned to own it.  Matt spent over 20 minutes with me on the phone as we determined which services would actually help -vs- what was just a quick sell.  I also gave him the info regarding what would happen when my car would remain stuck in park.  I brought my vehicle in and after inspecting it, Hawkeye Automotive fixed all of the necessary items.  I knew the brakes needed attention and decided with the age and mileage on the vehicle, that I would do two of the "flushes" the dealer recommended.  I never shared the price the dealer quoted with Hawkeye, but Hawkeye came in around $40 cheaper on each of the items I was having repaired.  My car is now running wonderfully!
They are an honest repair shop at a fair price, with a friendly and knowledgeable staff.  I would definitely recommend Hawkeye Automotive for any repairs or service to your vehicle.

"Thanks Member for the nice comments. It is my goal to provide the best customer service in the industry. Anyone has the capability to fix vehicles, but the one thing that most shops lack is having the trust of the customers. Communication is how trust can be earned. I'm happy to hear that you were pleased with the communication process. I'm very pleased that you took the time to make some comments which shows that we did our job. Thanks again Member. Please do not hesitate to give us a call if you have any questions or concerns in the future. Best Regards, Matt Greenhalgh General Manager"

"Thanks for the nice report that you gave. We like to be fair when quoting a service. As we all know, parts are becoming more expensive and vehicles are more complex to work on. On certain jobs, we understand giving our customers a great value while also being profitable at the same time so that we can be here in the future to serve our customers needs. Thanks again. I look forward on seeing you in the future. Matt Greenhalgh General Manager"

I've been putting off changing the timing belt on my Honda SUV and at 115,000 miles decided it was time.  Called several mechanics and got the most direct and detailed answer from Matt.  We discussed prioritizing the work that needed to be done on the car based on cost, long term issues and safety and he totally understood what I needed to accomplish.  They drove me home and picked me up when the work was done (I live about 4 miles away).  I am confident that this is the company that will help me see 200,000 miles on this vehicle.

I had a grinding noise in my right rear wheel area. I needed service as soon as possible as I was to drive out of town on 12/18. Hawkeye was able to get me in. They gave me a ride to my workplace (v close). They called in a couple hours and told me I needed a wheel bearing assembly and that I also needed front brakes very soon. I already knew about the brakes, so I knew they weren't pulling anything there. They said the brakes (pads and rotors) would be $375 whereas another place had said it would be $300. But I had them go ahead and do the brakes because they could do it all that day. They called later and told me the job was done, as promised. When I arrived at the shop, the manager said that he had saved me money because he was able to use the same rotors- just had to resurface them. So even though their pricing was higher, it ended up being a little less expensive (assuming the other place would have replaced the rotors). Overall, I am very happy with their service. The grinding noise is gone and the brakes work well. They were very pleasant and prompt. I will likely use them again. I hate dealing with car repair folks- that's why I buy Toyotas. But this was less painful than a lot of my experiences. I can't prove they were fair but I do think they were. A couple of notes: -They rotated my front and back tires as a courtesy, no charge. Unfortunately, I wanted the new tires to stay on the back during the winter in order to avoid possible fish-tailing on slick surfaces (I had mentioned that I had new tires on back but had no idea they would rotate tires). I haven't had a chance to get that reversed, but so far I have had no trouble. -Also, they noticed that my rear window brake light was out (it was), and replaced it for no charge. Nice touch. -I noticed a new faint sound in the front at higher speeds a day after I was in the shop. It's intermittent and less frequent now. I hope there wasn't something done wrong that now has to be fixed... (I am paranoid about cars- but I have been ripped off in the past, so my paranoia is largely justified). -The front brakes they replaced had been done by the same shop- 76,000 miles earlier. That's pretty good wear!

"Thank you member for the nice response. To add to the comment about Vic. I have known Vic and his family since I was 13. My family and I have been bringing our vehicles to Hawkeye ever since he opened. When I started working here, I completely understood the integrity and value that Vic and Hawkeye stood for. It is an honor to work here, and to carry Vic's legacy and reputation for many years to come. I hope to see you in the future. Matt Greenhalgh General Manager"

Very pleasant experience. I have dealt mostly with Matt. They come across as very straightforward and honest. Two of my biggest concerns with any mechanic. They told me exactly what they were going to do and were very close to their estimate. I also asked for recommendations on how to keep our 100K+ mileage car in tip top shape and they gave me a very straightforward answer.

I contacted Hawkeye to drop off my vehicle on Saturday to see if they could look at the brakes and do an inspection. They said they would not be able to see it until Monday, and I needed it back for work on Wednesday. Tuesday Morning I get a call and they ran down what was up it...mind you the call lasted about 30 minutes with explaining in full detail what was wrong. They explained everything that was wrong and what they were replacing. It was ready by Wednesday for pickup and they seemed appreciative and later called to make sure the car was still okay. Great place and I will continue to take my car there for any service...forget the dealer.

We all know most calls are bad news from the mechanics anyway, but what was different was that he explained thoroughly what was wrong, what it could lead to and what he would do in this situation. He suggested it was not worth making the repairs and that we should look to a few used car places he recommended. He is very knowledgeable and I felt comfort in the fact he was not trying to rip me off or anything. this is a well run shop (their billing invoice is also very easy to read as well) and I am glad I found them as I would not know who else to go to in the area. Highly recommend them.

Have used Hawkeye to service our minivan since the warranty expired-approximately 3 years. They're very good at getting me in and out quickly (I wait in the waiting room). Sometimes I can't get exactly the appointment I hoped for (they take a noon lunch hour and aren't open late or Saturdays), but I can usually get in within a few days. I never feel as though they're trying to "up sell" me additional products or services. They'll let me know when I need an air filter or something like that. The waiting room is nothing fancy. I'll use them again and would recommend them.

I had gone to a tire store to get my oil changed. At that time they told me that I needed 4 new tires immediately. I did not trust them. I thought I could possibly just rotate my tires, and get more miles on them. I needed a second opinion, so I checked out your list for a full service Auto shop, and decided on Hawkeye Automotive. They were wonderful. They jacked up my car, and called me out into the shop to actually show me the wear on my tires. It turned out I really did need two new front tires, and I still had at least 10,000 more miles on the two rear tires. They gave me options and recommendations on which tires would be best for my car. They made me feel confidant that I had made the right choice. I will have all my service work on my car done by them. I trust that they will not try to take advantage of me. While I was waiting for my car, I was talking with another customer who had been bringing her car to them for over twelve years, and she highly recommend them.
