I brought my Tahoe in because my front brakes were squealing really badly, and my truck was unstable after going over bumps. It turns out that I had a brake caliper seized and my tie rods were shot. They got everything replaced and upgraded quickly.
The only knock I have for Hawkeye is their hours. They are only open on weekdays from 7am - 6pm (no weekend hours). This makes it very difficult for me to get my car in for minor service.
"Sorry to hear that you are not happy with our service. To clarify what happened. 1). Vehicle came in for camshaft position sensor failure on 10/19/12. We replaced both camshaft sensors per Nissan Technical Service Bulletin. 2). We Repaired burnt wires on oxygen sensors on 11/2/12. With the repairs that were performed originally, is no where near the oxygen sensor wires. Broken plastic clips were the reason for the burnt wires. When we saw the vehicle on 10/19, that was the first time we saw the vehicle/customer. Since the vehicle had a camshaft code initially, the vehicle could not run the oxygen sensor monitors because of an engine performance issue, so we had no way on telling if there was an oxygen sensor concern, and there were no pending or history codes in the vehicles computer about an oxygen sensor issue. Furthermore, in order to do the camshaft sensors, the vehicle doesn't have to be raised off of the ground. The oxygen sensor wires that were burnt through are underneath the vehicle at the flex pipe area. I do apologize that you feel this way, but our reputation is the best in the area based on our reviews and the customer service that we give to our customers. The one thing that is very interesting, why did it take 8 months to give a response???????? I would appreciate a response so that I can do what ever is necessary to clear up some confusion. Matt called me later that day to let me know they could not get my car to "act up" again and that it could be one of two things. I came to pick up the car, he showed me where the over-ride button is & how to use it if my car was to stick in park again. He also gave me specific instructions of what to listen and watch for if it "stuck" again. They could use that info to determine the specific problem and not charge me for an unneccessary repair. My bill when I left that day from Hawkeye was $0, even though Matt and his mechanics had clearly spent time with my car and instructing me. Over the next few months my car did act up, I would use the override switch so I was never stranded, and I was able to obtain more specific info on how and when it happened.
I recently brought my vehicle to the actual dealer, not Hawkeye automotive, for a minor recall item to be fixed. While in the waiting room they brought out a list of many items they felt I needed (brake fluid flush, power steering flush, fuel flush, new brakes, etc) totaling over $1000. I declined the additional work and just had the recall item fixed. I called Matt at Hawkeye after getting home and discussed the items the dealer recommended, along with how many miles I had on my car and how much longer I planned to own it. Matt spent over 20 minutes with me on the phone as we determined which services would actually help -vs- what was just a quick sell. I also gave him the info regarding what would happen when my car would remain stuck in park. I brought my vehicle in and after inspecting it, Hawkeye Automotive fixed all of the necessary items. I knew the brakes needed attention and decided with the age and mileage on the vehicle, that I would do two of the "flushes" the dealer recommended. I never shared the price the dealer quoted with Hawkeye, but Hawkeye came in around $40 cheaper on each of the items I was having repaired. My car is now running wonderfully!
They are an honest repair shop at a fair price, with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. I would definitely recommend Hawkeye Automotive for any repairs or service to your vehicle.
"Thanks Member for the nice comments. It is my goal to provide the best customer service in the industry. Anyone has the capability to fix vehicles, but the one thing that most shops lack is having the trust of the customers. Communication is how trust can be earned. I'm happy to hear that you were pleased with the communication process. I'm very pleased that you took the time to make some comments which shows that we did our job. Thanks again Member. Please do not hesitate to give us a call if you have any questions or concerns in the future. Best Regards, Matt Greenhalgh General Manager"
"Thanks for the nice report that you gave. We like to be fair when quoting a service. As we all know, parts are becoming more expensive and vehicles are more complex to work on. On certain jobs, we understand giving our customers a great value while also being profitable at the same time so that we can be here in the future to serve our customers needs. Thanks again. I look forward on seeing you in the future. Matt Greenhalgh General Manager"

"Thank you member for the nice response. To add to the comment about Vic. I have known Vic and his family since I was 13. My family and I have been bringing our vehicles to Hawkeye ever since he opened. When I started working here, I completely understood the integrity and value that Vic and Hawkeye stood for. It is an honor to work here, and to carry Vic's legacy and reputation for many years to come. I hope to see you in the future. Matt Greenhalgh General Manager"
