First Choice Builders

After looking around for four years and interviewing a number of companies, we decided to go with Rob at First Choice Builders and we are very glad we did. From the beginning, he listened to us about our vision for the basement and laid out a fantastic design that included elements that both my wife and I were looking for. While he was not the cheapest bid, he was reasonable in price, very highly rated on Angie's list and we loved the basement that he completed for another customer. As a result, we decided to go with him.
Rob is very good at communicating with his customers, and was patient and thorough when talking with us about his timeline and what he needed from us. So important was good communication to him that he fired two sub-contractors that he had used in the past because they were not responsive to our phone calls or his. I was very impressed in this respect.
He got started framing out the basement relatively quickly and the work progressed at a good pace. He regularly showed up when subcontractors were in to both check their work and make sure we were happy. The basement was also left as clean as could be reasonable expected at the end of each day.
Rob and Mike found several serious problems with the house that were only evident after the work began. Rob was very good about showing us the problems (improperly supported I beam in the basement and moldy wood under the siding because of a lack of proper flashing) and helped us decide on the appropriate fix while trying to stay within the budget. They then made the repairs, showing us along the way what they were doing.
After building a custom entertainment center, Rob and Mike helped hang the TV and hook up the components. They even brought in a cleaning service to clean up the basement and the main level when everything was done.
They helped us anticipate issues and solve them before they became a problem. Their design suggestions were top notch, they were trustworthy and courteous and they earned my trust (which is not always easy). Best of all though, their work was fantastic and I believe that they deserve the title "Craftsmen."
If you are thinking about having work done, call them in for an interview, you will not regret it!

This is just a very professional, knowledgable group of folks that really came in and turned our complete disaster into a space my family can enjoy. The good contractors are worth the wait! We will continue to work with First Choice Builders on our other home improvement projects.

Very reliable, stuck to budget. Ran into many problems beyond his control but everything worked out and we are beyond satisfied! Rob is a man who you can trust with his word and he does a great job!

Excellent from start to finish. Did what they promised to do, and then some, right on time.

This project went very well. Start to finish was a couple of months. Some delays encountered due to roughed-in plumbing (had been installed at time of house construction) in the bath area needing some slight rearranging.

Installed 4 screen doors that no one else said could be done. He did a good job on the install. Would use again.

Rob and Mike did a great job on our crown molding. The corners look perfect and all the odd angles look great. There are most only 2 seams in around 400 feet of crown molding. It would be impossible to not have those with the crown that we picked. We are very satisfied with First Choice Builders and have already asked and received more quotes for future work.

Rob is great to work with and is willing to go the extra mile. He is open and honest. And the quality of his work is fantastic. I am very impressed with the time frame in which they were able to complete the project. Throughout the project Rob and his crew were very informative and was willing and able to provide suggestions. We trust him. We know quality when we see it.

Excellent Job! Rob was probably the easiest contractor that I have ever dealt with. He was responsive to our requests and completed all work within budget and the time frames that we set up prior to the commencement of work. Any time you begin work on a house that is 58 years old you can always expect the unexpected. Rob encountered a couple of these "unexpected situations" and responded appropriately in all instances. He was also very flexible when my wife and I had a fairly significant change of mind on several design changes in the layout of the room. He took our changes in stride and completed everything as we wished. Rob also did an excellent job in choosing his sub-contractors. I have nothing but praise for his electrical contractor, Henry Ciesla, who completely rewired the kitchen and brought the entire room up to code. The drywall company, M.A.S.D Construction also did a great job with the drywall part of the job. They are a really talented group and certainly know their trade. The painters were also great. Please look at the review I gave Decks RX through Angies List. We are completely happy with the overall job and couldn't have asked for a better outcome.

A great experience from start to finish. Rob and Mike were great to work with. They were here when they said they would be, and always cleaned up before they left. Rob had great ideas about several design aspects, but always let us make the final decisions. The quality of his work is excellent. His sub-contractors are first rate. He has a great working relationship with all the people he employs and works with. He is up front with all estimates and add-on work. Easy to talk to about any aspect of the job. (Don't get him started on OSU sports). An A+ rating from the Benders.

I met Rob when I needed an electrician to install an outlet in my new home for my electric dryer. Rob had his electrician here ASAP. Rob was recommended by a customer service manager in my Del Webb community. Rob later stopped to introduce himself and I asked him to quote finishing a large playroom in my basement for my grandchildren, installing an Aprilaire humidifier on my furnace and adding a battery backup to my sump pump. Shortly Rob provided me with professional drawings and estimates on all the services. The cost were reasonable and I contracted with Rob for the work. As work commenced Rob recommended two additions, i.e., the closet to store toys and built in bookshelves for the children's books, both were reasonably priced and added a great deal to the functionality of the space. The job was performed very efficiently, without delays between subcontractors, everything was scheduled so my life would be disrupted for as short a time as possible. All contractors were polite, professional, friendly and did an excellent job in a timely manner. Everyone cleaned up after themselves everyday and a professional cleaner was sent in at the completion of the job to clean the basement area, as well as the stairs, foyer, hallway and bathroom that the workers had used. Rob and one of his crew returned after I had carpet laid to move furniture back into the room. Overall, this was a great experience and I already have some future projects in mind that I will be calling First Choice Builders to complete.

It took Rob and his assistant about two hours including buying some of the materials. Both of them were friendly, courteous, and helpful. I would recommend them for a job like this, as well as larger jobs.

Overall, the experience was quite well. It was our first experience with them, and I feel like we received value for our money. The price was competitive. They did a number of small additional items as a favor, which I appreciated. The employees were all friendly and easy to work with, and were also good with letting us know when they'd be here along with what they'd be doing. The employees were on time, too. They really went above and beyond. The finished project is excellent; they did a fine job. I would certainly recommend them for any general remodeling-type work.

We were thrilled with this project. They helped us with the design, materials and finish. They designed a wall unit that totally meets our needs and looks beautiful. They cleaned up each day and were careful to work around our busy schedule as well as our children and pets.

Adding insulation to a home can be quite messy. They were great. They came in and did it quickly and cleanly. They worked around our busy family schedule. The room is so much more comfortable after this work was done.

The bathroom turned out to be beyond our expectations. It was beautiful. The shower and tub really enhance the bathroom. They were great a cleaning up each day and even patiently worked around my children, cats and dog. This room now really looks nice and functions so much better for my family.

We were thrilled with our deck. They built it quickly as soon as we signed the contract. They cleaned up each day after they worked. They designed it and suggested materials and flower boxes that really added to the look of the deck and my yard. They even were very patient with my children as they worked.

Water had been seeping into the attic when we had very heavy rains. Rob looked at the wooden structure around the chimney vent where the water was getting in. He said that the wood had deteriorated and the flashing and caulking were not sealed well anymore. Rob and Mike arrived the next morning and had all the supplies and went right to work. They had to remove the bad wood, old flashing and caulk first. They inspected the wood around the area to be sure that it was in good condition. Then they rebuilt the structure, sealed it, and replaced the shingles in that area. The work was done very well. Rob explained what needed to be done, how they would do the work, and kept me informed of their progress that morning. I would definitely hire this company again to do work around our house. They are very professional, easy to work with, and left the work area very clean.

First Choice Builders installed a double window in my dining room where no window existed. They properly removed the outside siding, removed drywall inside and installed a dual double hung window. They properly prepared the inside of my home with a plastic wall, therefore, no mess or dust entered the home. They properly insulated and completed the outside siding to it's original state. They were easy to deal with and kept me informed of everything they were doing as they went along. I am totally pleased and excited about the wonderful job they did and the new window where I can view the lake and sunset. I would highly recommend them for any job in your home.
