United States Alliance Fire Protection came out to test our fire sprinkler system alarms at our Chesterfield Townhouse in North Aurora, IL on Saturday 6.20.20. They showed up late and were suppose to follow the plumbers around who were testing the values on our system. The workers were complaining that the plumbers had started and said that they didn't want to be here. They came into my house and opened a value and sprayed water all over my closet, underneath our stairs inside the house and all over the contents inside the closet. I asked if everything was OK during the test because I could hear the water spraying and he assured me that everything was fine. He was leaving my house and I asked him if he was finished and he said yes and quickly walked out of my house. I went into inspect the work and there was water all over the floor and he had sprayed water all over my belonging. I went out looking for him and told his co worker what happened and he said it wasn't his fault but rather the associations problem. I asked him again and then he said that my drain value was clogged and it caused water to spray and I needed to contact a plumber. I asked him for his company name and he refused to tell me their name. Things got heated and he squared off with me to challenge me to a fight. I didn't back down and he was too afraid to swing at me. I spoke with the plumbers after this ordeal and they told me the guy was very unprofessional, showed up late, said he didn't want to be there, told me the name of their company was on the tag attached to the fire sprinkler system and that the guy that came into my house said that he blew the PVC drain pipe apart when he open the value to test the system. So instead of shutting down the test, he let water spray all over the inside of my closet and never even mentioned it to me. There was also other people in the complex complaining about the same situation. I had to empty out the remained of my contents, push as much water as possible down the drain, mop the floor and run fans. I will have to cut out the wet dry wall and make sure there is no mold and replace the drywall, finish and paint. Obviously I will never use this company again and will never let them step foot in my house. I'd advise you do the same.

"Mr. [Member Name Removed] We are sorry to hear of the negative encounter you experienced, but there appears to be a case of confusion regarding the company who tested your fire sprinkler system. Since first becoming aware of the problem you experienced, we have conducted a thorough review of every service call we performed this past Saturday, June 20th and none of our technicians were on site at your location in North Aurora. The tag you refer to attached to the fire sprinkler system, may have been placed there during a service visit at an earlier time, but the negative experience you reported was not the result of any of our technicians. We pride ourselves on having a track record of excellent service with thousands of satisfied customers. If you need assistance with your fire sprinkler system, we are available to assist and please know the work will be completed with the upmost level of skill and professionalism."

"There seems to be a discrepancy between the address that we have on record and the address noted above. If the work in question occurred at [Member Contact Information Removed], then it was a frozen pipe situation. Repairing cracked thermoplastic pipe eventually requires the introduction of water to find the damaged sections since the use of compressed air is not recommended. Any reputable contractor would proceed with great caution under these conditions so as not to make the situation worse. Unfortunately, the original installation was inadequately insulated plus there was no local alarm bell installed to indicate a water flow condition. Both of these further contributed to the higher than expected final cost."

This was one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a contractor.  I contacted them because I thought my fire sprinkler pump had a leak.  I started calling in May 2014 and I would speak with someone who said they would call me back right away to schedule service but then I wouldn't ever hear back.  I kept following up with different people at the company and the same thing kept happening.  It took 4 months for someone to finally come out (and not because they were booked, only because they were incompetent at scheduling me).  If there was a different company in the city who did this I would have gone with them, but couldn't find other options.  Finally, a guy came out and worked on the pump and it seemed to be working again.  Two months later I had the same problem!  When I called to have someone come out again they did not indicate that there would be a charge (since it was only 2 months since they came out before for the same thing - clearly they had not fixed the problem!).  I got an invoice a month later for $278.   This company is terrible - stay away!

"The cause of this particular repair was unusual in nature and misunderstood at first. After some research, we scheduled a return trip to get it right (no additional cost). We believe that we have now met the customer's expectations."

"[Member name removed], Thank you very much for commenting positively about your recent interaction with our company. We take our reputation on Angie’s List very seriously. From your grades and comments it seems that our service may not have fully met your expectations. I will discuss your review with our residential staff. Thank you for your honest feedback. The contact person, Deb F, offered 2 options: repair for $250.00 or replacement of a part for $650.00. Asking for her advice, Deb said "Let's try repair first". And so they did. Prompt, courteous, professional. This company generally installs entire systems, yet they did not hesitate to do a very minor repair on a system they didn't even install. Would I recommend them to someone else? I already have.

The work went very well, the contractor assured us it that would be easy and it was. The person I dealt with initially explained the process and prepared a proposal for the work. Their installer ( sprinkler fitter ) that actually did the work was very neat and tidy everyday. I was concerned about the drywall being cut open, but in the end not very much had to be because the pipe came up from the basement exposed but tucked carefully inside the first floor closets. Most of the pipe and controls are located in the basement and the contractor made sure they would not be in our way. There was one mishap; the installer bumped and broke a sprinkler in our crawlspace while putting a protective guard over it. The system was turned off but there was some water inside that began to drain. They worked quickly to catch the water, move our stuff and mop up immediately. In the end this was a minor incident, but I was glad I had asked about their insurance before signing their proposal. Since this installation was done a while ago, I will add that we no longer even see the sprinklers, they just seem to blend in. Occasionally guests notice, often not.

I got 5 or so bids and although I wasn't looking for only price, they were not only the best, but as much as 1/2 of some of the competitors. Everything was so smooth and easy. Everyone I worked with was professional. In addition the location was very convenient for me.
