About us
CatNap from the Heart is a nonprofit animal shelter located in LaGrange Park IL. We rescue cats, kittens, birds and small mammals from our community through owner give-ups and strays and adopt them into loving homes as soon as possible. We rely on donations and volunteers to continue to do our work. All pets live comfortably at CatNap or in a foster home until the right human companion comes along. There is NO TIME LIMIT for any animal. We are committed to finding the right home and to taking the time to carefully match the needs and the personalities of both people and adopted animals. Please note that we prefer that all members of the family wishing to adopt should be present before taking home your new furry friend from CatNap.

When you walk into this shelter, it is always clean. You may have to watch out for cats or the occasional rabbit that is having time out of their cages to get some exercise. You may even be greeted by one or more of the cats sitting on the counter near the front door. The staff is very knowledgeable about the animals in their care. If your choice is not quite right, as people sometimes choose an animal from looks other than personality, the staff will ask questions that can help them direct you to an animal that might better fit into your family and your lifestyle. The first time I adopted a cat, I came in to look at one cat and after talking to the staff about the other animals in my house, I was directed to a lovely, older black cat. Chuck fit into my house hold immediately and was with me for 5 yrs. I have come back and adopted other older cats, the last two are two 11 year old brothers. I came in to check them out on 7/9/2013. I wasn't sure if they would fit in. After visiting with them, I said I would adopt, but could not take them right away, as they were larger then I thought they were and had to change the setup at my home for their introduction to my other animals. Catnap was very obliging and kept them until I could pick them up on Saturday, 7/13/2013. This happened to be the weekend of their yard sale. So I dropped off my carriers and went shopping at the yard sale. When I was finally ready to leave, they loaded up the cats in my carriers and I was given all their medical records and since the boys were heavy, I was assisted in putting them into my car. I came back Sunday to check for more goodies at the yard sale and was approached by different staff and volunteers asking about the cats, "how are they doing?", " are they settling in?".
I have visited Catnap to drop off some supplies since the adoption and am always greeted and asked how everything is going with the cats, they remember you and the animals you adopted and are genuinely concerned that the adoption is working out. I have no qualms recommending this shelter to people who want to adopt cats/kittens, birds or small mammals or who are looking for a non-profit to support, be it with money or supplies they might need.
