Everything went well, from the initial estimate appointment to the final installation, except for dealing with the manufacturer of the glass block windows, Imperial Glass in Niles, IL, which will sadly be part of this report and reflect on J Doheny Glass Block, Inc. This will get a little lengthy... I was not informed by Doheny Glass Block that I would be contacted by Imperial Glass, the manufacturer, to schedule a delivery time of the windows. Much to my surprise when Imperial called to say that they were on their way to make a delivery that I knew nothing about; I figured that the installers, Doheny Glass, would have received the windows and brought them on the day of installation. The problem was I was not home to receive the windows. That didn't seem to matter to much to Imperial Glass; they were going to deliver them regardless and leave them. The delivery person was not only very rude, but downright nasty in the way he talked to me. He didn't care that I was not able to be available for the delivery, and when I told him that I didn't know anything about this and why wasn't the glass block company receiving the windows, he said, "that's just the way we do things". I tried to give the delivery person instructions of where to leave the windows so they would be secure (putting them in my back yard and describing the house), and he couldn't be bothered with what I had to say, cutting me off saying, "yeah, I know". He didn’t know as he's never been to my house and didn't know what he would be encountering. I made him verify the address and low and behold, he had the wrong address. When I corrected him on it, he got very sarcastic and said, "my mistake". I did not trust that the windows would be delivered safely, so I left work immediately trying to get home by the time the delivery would be made. When I got home I could not find the windows, so I called the delivery person thinking he didn't delivery them yet. He did and kept telling me that they were by the side of the garage. My house has a two car detached garage, which is the first structure you see, and an original one car garage that is now attached to the house and is part of the house; it's no longer a garage and does not look like a garage. When I finally found the windows, which were viewable to anyone walking by, I asked the delivery person why he didn't put them in the yard, and he said because you had a "Beware of Dog" sign on the gate and I was not going in the yard. Why would I tell him to go in the yard if my dogs were out??? I'm sorry to say that this experience with Imperial will not be forgotten and will unfortunately reflect on Doheny. I explained this entire incident to the owner and was told that this problem has happened in the past. Supposedly Imperial make a very good glass block window, and maybe they do, but something has to change on Doheny's part with how they are delivered to the customers, or they won't have any customers.
