Highly recommend.
I called Island Lake Plumbing the day after New Years to repair a toilet the grandchildren had totally clogged. We had tried clearing it with a plunger, but it was way beyond what we could do. Don called back 30 minutes later and was here 30 minutes after that. He routed out the toilet so that it works again, then went to take a look at some other plumbing issues I had told him about earlier.
He fixed a floor drain in a stall shower that was damaged as a result of "repairs" by a previous owner, checked out a toilet in that bathroom that had problems in the past and said it was fine for now, then looked at the shower faucet control there that had always been almost impossible to manipulate and said that all it needed was a new cartridge (about $25), would I like him to go pick one up and install it later? He said he'd be back in a few minutes, and he was.
I was thinking there would be an extra travel charge or something, but this had been an annoying problem since we moved here and I just wanted it fixed. Another plumber who looked at this faucet had given me an estimate of $1500 for this same problem, so a travel charge to get the part was fine with me.
Don came back with the cartridge, installed it, took a look at some repairs we had done ourselves in another toilet and said that, too was fine. He presented his invoice, which I was sure was going to be in the $400-500 range but no! Bill for ALL THAT turned out to be $131.40. No travel charge, just his flat hourly rate plus the cost of the part. Work done the same morning I called at a price that was more than reasonable. No surprise that Don has so many excellent reviews on Angies List, he's terrific!
Don stopped by on Tuesday (6/17/20014) to check my water heater. He quoted a price on the phone to fixit and to install a new one. Once he checked it all out he said it could be repaired and ordered the part on the phone and picked it up the next day. He told me he would be here on Wednesday between 3:00 and 3:30 and call on his way, he arrived at 3:15 (can't be more prompt than that). He fixed the water heater and also installed a new kitchen faucet that I had purchased for my son to install, but he was very busy so I asked Don if he could and without even thinking about it he said sure. He was so professional and so was his apprentice Kevin, social and clean. I had another service come on Monday and he quoted me $647 to fix it and $1340 to replace the heater. Don only charged me I/3 of the first plumber and was GREAT.
I took several of his business cards to pass around and put his number in my cell, that's how pleased I am with his work, because I don't ever want to loss his phone number. I can't even find all of the words to say how GREAT, Wonderful, pleasant and extremely professional he and his apprentice
In about April of 2011 my downstairs toilet was leaking. After posting on Facebook that I was looking for Plumber referrals, I received Island Lake Plumbing as a referral from a friend. I called Don and explained the situation. He was able to come that same day to take a look. The seal for the toilet was broken, and sewage had leaked under my wood bathroom floors. He reviewed with me that he would take out the toilet, so that the flooring could come out more efficiently, and the floors could be cleaned. He was very honest, and advised it would be more cost effective for me to pull up the wood flooring myself, rather than pay hourly plumbers fee to do that. As a single mom, I appreciated his honesty, and him giving me options. He advised If I wanted to handle that, to just call him once I was ready for the toilet to be reinstalled with the correct, new sealing.
A group of men from church came to pull up the flooring for me, and then surprised me by fixing the toilet, too ! About 9 months later, something did not seem quite right, as the new flooring was 'bubbling' up. I called Don again, and explained why I had not called him earlier. He was able to come over the next day, however I was not available for a few days. When he came, he was able to identify that the wrong size seal/tube was put on, and pulled up the toilet again. I pulled up the wood flooring a few days later, and then he came and reinstalled the toilet with the correct parts.
While Don was at my house the second time, I asked him to please listen to my upstairs bathroom creaking floor. I had had some leaking a few months earlier, but that issue was identified and addressed (was in regards to my kids showering and not using the liner correctly). I was now afraid maybe the floor would fall through. Don took the time to review why it would be creaking now, and reassured me.
Don is friendly, professional, punctual, efficient, offers explanations and has very competative/fair pricing. I will definitley use his services again, when needed, and have referred him to my family and friends.
