Homewood Appliance Repair

The technician showed up - ahead of time, after calling first (that part was the only thing that went right). He was surprised that it was a built-in unit - I don't think he had ever seen one or serviced one before. My impression was only substantiated by his "awe" - he commented multiple times on the unusual appliance. He called multiple people multiple times for information on how to service/access the compressor unit. He finally got enough info to get to the port to recharge the unit, and then cleaned off the coils. He advised that the freezer was "too full", and there was too much "plastic", interfering with air getting to the food to freeze it. - I don't know what he expected my frozen veg's to be wrapped in. The morning after service the temperature was still around 25F, meaning charging the unit wasn't the issue. After calling and stating the problem, the company said they would pull the work ticket and set up another appt that morning. I finally called them back midafternoon, and did not get a confirmation call until early evening. When the tech returned a day later, after looking at the thermometer in freezer, he was ready to walk away, saying "It's working - look at the temperature" - The freezer temp was 25 deg F - NOT 0 F as it should be. Wouldn't a tech know that???? Then, he said that the accuracy of the thermometer couldn't be determined and it was fine. My husband and I challenged him, and he finally agreed to do some "follow up". He checked the coolant level, said he had overcharged the unit, and that everything should be fine now. (I wish I had that statement in writing - no idea what overchargig did to the unit). It's three hours after he left, and the temp in the freezer is now 60F. He never checked the thermostadt or fan operation (there are multiple fans), just said that it was "hot" by the compressor. (yes, that's one of those thermo-dynamic deals and how compressors work!) Made it sound like we should have better home A/C in order for the freezer to work!
