First of all, we are happy with the finished product of our master bathroom and walk-in closet. We are NOT happy with the owner of this business and his handling of our project. Jeff took time to design our space over several meetings. He promised that he would be available to choose tile/granite/light fixtures/plumbing fixtures whenever we needed him. Timeline was discussed with a 6 week from contract start and a project time of 3 weeks. Permit submission was done by myself with plans drawn by Jeff. We failed the permit process with 14 items that were not addressed due to insufficient drawings. Additional time/effort was required by Jeff and us to meet the requirements to meet code, which pushed our project back several weeks. We also paid more for the project due to Jeff needing to insure his workers for our village (a cost he should have known upfront). With new drawings, we re-submitted and were approved for work to begin. I can't say enough about the FANTASTIC workers that Jeff has on his team. They were courteous and did excellent work and even suggested design modifications that made sense. One of our first tasks was to pick out a granite surface. Jeff gave us the name of a granite place and that he'd meet us there. He NEVER showed. We picked granite on our own that day. We ordered tile - on our own. We chose lighting, plumbing, fixtures, and paint colors - on our own. The next time and ONLY time we saw Jeff for the duration of the project was when he delivered the vanity and asked for money (same visit). The total project ended up taking over three months to complete. Due to various project modifications/additions, we had no idea what our final invoice would be. We waited and waited for some type of final figure. 8 months after the project was completed we finally received a remaining balance invoice for over $11,000. We were shocked to receive this invoice so far after the project was completed. Jeff explained that COVID and not having an office manager were reasons behind us not getting an invoice before then and that we fell between the cracks. While we don't argue the price, we did not appreciate the length of time it took him to get the job done, nor the amount of time before we received a final invoice. When we offered to pay $2,000 each month for the next six months we were sent a very threatening email offering us three options for payment in full NOW. Suddenly this money is due NOW when he has carried this receivable for 8 months already? We will NEVER recommend Artistic Kitchen Concepts (Jeff) to anyone in the future. His involvement in the project started out well, but dropped off to the point where we never saw him, had no further input from him, and didn't receive an invoice until 8 months after the project was completed.

Artistic Kitchen Concepts is the perfect name for this company. Clearly Jeff Hughes is an ARTIST! While maintaining our original well-made cabinets, Jeff helped us select new cabinet doors and handles. In addition, he updated the inside of several cabinets with drawers and lazysusans to make our pans and dishes more easily accessible. The quality of the cabinets inside and out are absolutely outstanding! Our new look could not be more perfect and whole heartedly matched our expectations! We appreciated Jeff's knowledge, professionalism, and expertise as we worked through the various decisions.

Overall we are satisfied with the remodeling effort .... reliability and punctuality were acceptable ... Price was fair to a little on the higher side ... Finish work detail was not as good as we had thought it might be without us pointing out items needing attention ..... however, they were very good at attending to the items once we brought them to their attention ... I would attribute that to the fact that we are pretty fickle consumers ... Having said all that, we would hire them again for another project.

The cabinets look like new! He saved us thousands of dollars as most recommended door replacement. Jeff is a real artist when it comes to blending color! The light fixture adds the missing light over the sink and the new tile finishes the kitchen. He also installed a peg system and new rails for a deep drawer that we converted to a dish drawer. Jeff and Nan are a joy to have in our home and they are very professional.

I just don't feel that the quality or dedication to this job was there.I have hired numerous contractors to work on my homes & this was not a good experience. Accepted a TEN THOUSAND DOLLAR down payment 01/04/17 with a contractual start date of 01/2017 ( this was more than 30% of what the total bill was going to be, which was 28k including countertops ) . FYI the cost of supplies on the invoice they issued totaled 7057.62 ...Gave excuse after excuse for delays and finally began work 03/2017... TWO MONTHS late ...when it was clear I was about to cancel. Wish I had seen the following before signing " Asking you to pay up front : According to the Better Business Bureau, a contractor asking for money up front is the most commonly reported scam. In this ruse, the contractor claims that they need a certain percentage of the payment up front in order to rent equipment or buy supplies. However, after getting the money, they end up taking their sweet time , disappearing or do substandard work knowing most likely they won’t be fired because of the substantial payment you’ve already made" From the start things went badly . First day employee I had never seen rang my bell and when I answered the door they just started walking into my home. No introduction. I stopped them & asked "who are you ?" ( I had met 2 completely different employees doing work on someone else's home. ) Work began each day anywhere between 9:30 and 11:00 , they would not commit to a definite start time. The new (in my opinion inexperienced & untrained) employee kept dropping things on my hardwood floor ( there are some minor chips), they spattered glue on it that was used to attach refacing veneer ( no drop cloths until after all that happened, which was unfortunately a little late) . They sawed wood moulding while it was still attached to the wall and into my hardwood floor. Chipped the moulding in the process as well. Cracked and split veneer was attached to my cabinets & when it was called to their attention the owner & employee argued with me. They didn't take screws out of a cabinet prior to carrying it into the garage and put gouges & scratches into a wood interior door. Didn't tell me they did it , I found that unhappy surprise after they left . Professional ? Ethical ? You be the judge.I regret ever hiring Artistic Kitchen Concepts.

"Please note that we did NOT finish this project. We were about half way through when the client had a series of "episodes". On the second day of work the client informed us that she had an "Obsessive Compulsive" disorder and asked us to be patient with her. We tried. We denied her nothing, agreeing to every request for addition or change even as her requests for changes from her contract increased and became more outlandish (i.e. realign my cabinets in a new way; create a new cabinet that is 1 1/4 inches wider to match my new vision, etc.). On day 6 she became aggressive and very verbally abusive to my wife and myself. She continued to exhibit bizarre behavior, pacing about her front yard while talking in an agitated manner on her phone. We completed the work day. Later that evening we received an email terminating our contract. We have since learned that her behavior is consistent with certain Obsessive Compulsive personality disorders and those behavior characteristics make it virtually impossible for her to handle the type of disruption that comes with a normal kitchen remodel. We provided an accounting of the job (she owes us money) as she held our tools hostage until she received it. Since then, we have been cyber stalked by this person using multiple fake names/email addresses. Her "reviews" have been full of so many fabrications that they have been pulled by 2 online services and are under review by the Illinois Attorney General. We are considering legal action as she has breached her contract and is making false and unwarranted statements about work we did everything in our power to accommodate her on but were not allowed to complete."

So far, the project is going well. Today is day 5 out of 10. I am pleased so far with the product, materials, workers, and workmanship. Jeff was very instrumental and responsive to helping me to decide on granite slabs, as well as other areas that I asked him for input. He also offered some great ideas for options that I had not thought of. I am anxious to see the finished product!!!

Working with Jeff was wonderful. Jeff has an easy approach that makes the re-modeling process stress free. Jeff listened to what we were trying to achieve and gave us great input and ideas and at the end of the project the kitchen looked better than we even imagined.
His contacts for counter tops, sinks and faucets were all good people to work with and all were very professional. It took about 4 days from beginning to end for the job and they did exactly what we expected.
Bottom line, we would absolutely work with Jeff again for our bathroom re-model and would highly recommend him to others. We wish more contractors were like Jeff.

They were very prompt in giving an estimate. I purchased tile and appliances for the installation. the were very clean and gave us several ideas . The only problem we had was some minor calking which was corrected promptly.Job was complete in 3 days and was a professional job. Purchasing your own items was the best pricing. They offered the names of some companies which discounted the items. we were able to get exactly what we wanted.

IN SPITE OF JEFF TRYING TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE. THERE WAS A LOT OF REWORK THAT NEEDED TO BE DONE. THE PROJECT WAS PROMISED TO BE COMPLETED IN 3 DAYS, WHEN IN FACT IT WAS FINISHED IN 5 MONTHS. THERE WAS POOR MEASURING, MANY DIFFERENT WORKERS CAUSING MISCOMMUNICATION. THE DOORS WERE ALSO INSTALLED CROOKED.

"We were surprised that this customer felt the need to write this. We did quality work and a great job on providing her with a custom kitchen (floors, walls, electric, plumbing, new cabinets and new countertops). As is our policy, we communicated with this customer all along the way, including a final walk-through and sign-off. We bent over backwards for her, providing free materials and extra work on her home that were not part of our contract (and which she repeatedly asked us for) and recognizing and resolving the unique issues that any remodeling project involves, again with her approval and sign-off. As to the customer's assertions about the time it took: We would never promise a 3-day window for a custom job of this size. The job as contracted took just over 3 weeks start-to-finish, not the 5 months she asserts. After the job was finished, the customer had us order and install some additional custom decorative materials, which she then decided she wanted in a different size, and thus had to be reordered and re-installed. She refused to pay for these materials and still owes us over $200."
