Carpentry+You

Thomas took great care to assess what would need to be done. He gave us various options and made sure that he coordinated his schedule with our furniture movers. He did great work. We’ve already asked for another estimate for more work at our home.

I originally had plans only for new stair railings/posts/balusters. However, when I was trying to select a carpenter, I saw the carpentry+you website showing beautiful work done by Thomas, including crown molding and wainscoting. Sure enough, these got added to my plan :) I can’t recommend Thomas enough! His is a true professional, meticulous in his work. He is artistic, honest and precise. He arrived when expected, communicated his plans effectively, took time to explain his plans and get my input along the way. Thomas did a great job pulling together the new stair posts/rails/balusters to make everything “flow”. The previous rails&posts did not flow and were actually broken up into 2 separate segments as they did not line up. Thomas created a detail (gooseneck) in the rail in order to do this. It turned out beautifully. I highly recommend carpentry+you!!!

Thomas was great to work with, the bench seat and molding look great! He is very precise and takes pride in his work. He always explains options and helps customers pick the best option for their needs. He is not an in and out rush job kind of guy, he takes his time and makes sure the the work is done right. He listens to customer feedback is genuinely concerned about customer satisfaction and most importantly the end result looks great. I would highly recommend.

Thomas was exceptional from the very first contact. He was prompt and professional returning calls and emails, from giving us an estimate to following up after the project was completed. He cleaned up thoroughly each day, even leaving our garage cleaner than when he came! Great experience with Thomas. He was very responsive, punctual, and efficient, but most of all, he's a skilled carpenter, takes pride in his work with high attention to detail. He even took the extra step of moving a duct vent slightly to ensure the wainscoting looked uniform. We are very pleased with his work and plan to have him come back to complete the room with crown molding.

I had a specific budget, and was worried that it would be hard to find a true professional willing to bring high quality at my budget. Thomas is amazing. He revised his quote, changed the initial plan, was honest, timely and professional. Best of all, his work is beautiful! My shiplap wall is a dream come true!

Because of how the stairs met the flooring in adjacent rooms and in the hallway, Thomas took special care with measurements and installation. It was not an ideal "start from scratch" setup for a carpenter, but he worked with these difficulties in stride and made it look and feel of excellent quality. He definitely takes pride in his work and in his neatness. He worked in our home as if it were his own home, and cleaned up very well after construction.
What I was pleased with the most was his level of flexibility. In knowing that we have small children and the possibility of no-stairs, a potential safety issue, he was able to do the main staircase work while we were on a week long vacation. Some of this was coincidental timing of the materials order, but he was indeed able to fulfill the majority of the duties during this time.
The work done required a higher price tag than we wanted or expected, however, the quality of the work is excellent and we value his carpentry craftmanship!

We had an ugly fireplace surround that needed replacing.  We provided Thomas with a picture of a fireplace mantel and asked him to recreate it in an effort to give our tiny (gas/wood burning) fireplace a make over so that it went from an embarrassment to show piece.  The mantel we wanted was very elaborate and not something that could be bought off the shelf.  We reached out to Thomas and he took the project on.  He came out and measured and provided us an estimate while also providing recommendations for the hearth.  It took Thomas about 6 weeks from initial engagement to install.  The time was well worth it.  Our mantel is a work of art.  The material is the highest quality, the detail is impeccable (difficult to describe) but spot on.  
As we were going through the process we did have to go back and forth with measurements via email.  Measurements I wish he had taken when he came for his initial visit but it was a minor inconvenience especially given the extraordinarily high quality we received in return.
Thomas is passionate about what he does and it shows.

Thomas re-did our staircases. The finished product is beyond our wildest dreams. They are unique and gorgeous. Thomas is not only an outstanding carpenter but is an artist. It is so nice to work with someone who truly takes pride in his work. He took care of our house during the construction as if it was his own house -- at the end of every day the house was spotless. Everything was done precisly and you can tell from the finished product that he didn't take any short cuts. He even worked over the weekend and holiday because we were staying in a hotel with our young daughter. I cannot sing enough of his praises and would highly recommend him to anyone.

We had recently removed the carpeting from our stairway, and had the hardwood treads underneath refurbished and refinished, and the risers freshly painted. We decided to replace the existing balustrade with something simpler and nicer to complement the beautiful new stairs. We had definite ideas about the clean, timeless look we were going for, but had not selected or puchased any stair parts. Thomas listened to our ideas, asked questions, and then brought sample balusters, both iron and wood, to our home. He explained their features and what distinguished custom quality milled parts from less expensive products, and why some wood species and metals were more desirable than others. He also brought sample rails, newel posts, and hardware. Afterwards, he followed up with several emails back and forth, wherein we exchanged photos of additional options, he answered our questions, and suggested reasons he believed some designs and products would work better than others in our home. Once we had finalized our choices, he ordered the parts from his supplier and installed the balusters, handrails, and post. The materials he obtained were beautiful and well crafted. Thomas did excellent, meticulous work over two days, attending to every detail, and insisting on professionalism and fine craftsmanship in all aspects of the installation process and throughout the job.

Thomas was great from the start. I had Thomas out to give me a quote and once we came to an agreement, work started a few days later. You can tell that Thomas takes very great pride in his work and really loves what he does. The materials he uses are great and very high quality. It took a few days to install the new trim work as Thomas took the time to make everything perfect and to sand each miter. Thomas was always on time and did a great job keeping dust confined and cleaning up every day. The room now looks beautiful! It has really added much character to the room and gives it a more elegant feel. I will be using Thomas for my next project!

Our experience with Thomas was great.  Thomas was reasonably priced and his work is fantastic.  He stuck to his timeline and was very accessible whenever we had questions.  Thomas explained the entire process to us and exactly the kinds of materials he would be using and why.  His work is great and everything he did looks awesome.  Another positive was how clean he was.  He kept everything tidy and cleaned up very well after he was done with the job.  He secured the crown molding to the wall and even added backing where necessary.  We will definitely be having Thomas back to have future work done.  Since the work has been completed we have had friend and family over to our home and everyone has commented on the craftsmanship.....we even had a few people ask for his contact information.

Thomas responded to my query to look at our creaky old staircase very quickly. We had not yet moved in, but we could already tell the staircase had some pretty big problems. Turned out that it had been neglected for so long that it needed to be torn out and completely rebuilt. Thomas did the demolition quickly and carefully - he was very respectful of the original woodwork and worked around it. He started the rebuild quickly and gave us a beautiful (creak-free) and stable staircase that still reflects the vintage house's time period. It looks amazing and every workman we've had come through since for other projects has marveled at the craftsmanship. Our painter said, "Wow, nobody does this kind of work anymore." Thomas is truly a craftsman who does beautiful work that will stand the test of time. I have always lived in old houses so I've never actually lived anywhere with a squeak-free stair, and ours is sturdy, beautiful, and made beautifully. 

He also repaired our attic staircase, which was old and creaky, and in some places, even bouncy. He repaired all the treads so that they are solid as a rock now, and it is probably in better condition than it was when the house was first built. He did an excellent job - far exceeded my expectations. it's like a brand new staircase now.

We also asked Thomas to add wainscoting in our entry foyer and going up the new staircase, and it looks beautiful. It makes the entry foyer, which was originally just kind of blah, look like a showpiece. His craftsmanship is remarkable, and our painter was really impressed by the work as well. 

Thomas pays attention to every little detail and really cares about his work. I recommend him highly!

Thomas, of Carpentry+You, replaced the basic pine stool and aprons with custom stool and aprons made from poplar wood. The new custom stools have a beautiful, routed edge and profile and the new custom aprons have beautiful mitered returns which create a much more dramatic effect. Each window was then trimmed with beautiful poplar casing. Thomas used his extreme talent to create the tightest mitered corners that I've seen. Thomas then took great care sanding every corner and edge of each window showing his very meticulous and professional nature. 

When Thomas was finished with this project, we were so excited with the dramatic change his work created. The windows now really stand out and give each room a much more refined and finished feeling. We could not be happier with the work Thomas did for us and the outstanding results! We will certainly be using him again in the future!

Thomas, from Carpentry+You, used beautiful poplar wood, pocket screws, and other high-end tricks of his trade to build the custom column. He added crown moulding to our home recently as well and really connected the two projects by using the same quality materials. In addition to the beautiful double-bead crown moulding, he used solid poplar planks, poplar trim for fine detailed trim work, and the most beautiful and detailed chair rail which we plan to incorporate in the future when we use Thomas for wainscoting. We just can't believe how this column, which was Thomas's idea and creation, tied two rooms together, set the stage for other work we want done in the future, and add a feature piece when guests enter our home. I just can't say enough about the extra effort, quality, professionalism, positivity, and passion that Thomas brings with his work. He is a true craftsman and deserves and received our respect for the work, which is above and beyond what the 'average' person would do.

Thomas, of Carpentry+You, arrived at our home for the initial consultation promptly as discussed. I can't say how much I appreciated Thomas being on time and sincerely valuing the time of a potential client. After discussing the types of crown moulding, and the rooms which we wanted the beautiful crown moulding installed in, we excitedly agreed to have Thomas do the installation. I have to say that Thomas had as much excitement about how our home would be transformed as we did. He is extremely passionate about his work, more so than most any other professional that we have worked with in the past. Beyond that was the fact that Thomas has 20+ years as a speciality carpenter and has a background that is first class. Thomas showed up to work every day as promised at 8 a.m. and worked until that day's project was completed. Thomas cares as much, if not more, about the quality of his work than the money. When Thomas was done installing all of our crown moulding, my wife and I could not believe not only how beautiful our home appeared, but also how much more it made our house feel like even more of a home. We absolutely made the right choice in choosing to use Thomas with Carpentry+You. In fact we are using Thomas, simply based upon the quality of his work for two other projects in our home.

5 months after having this work down in my office, I found out that the french doors where incorrectly installed and I ended up having to pay someone else over $1,000 to correct this company's mistake.  Complete waste of money.

Thomas custom designed, built and installed a cabinet in my master bathroom.  He offered several suggestions to maximize storage space and to make it look nice.  The finished cabinet looks beautiful.

The whole project went great.  Thomas is a true craftsman and committed to his work.  I was referred by a friend and am so glad.  His attention to detail on both the moulding and wainscoting were incredible.  Throuhout the process, Thomas was able to make suggestions to the design that really made a difference in the outcome.  The project was completed in 2 days.  Thomas was neat and very thorough in his clean up when he left.  Most of my house does NOT have crown moulding but after this experience I am now hooked and will definitely have Thomas come back again as I work on the rest of my rooms.  Even my painter commented on Thomas's work and attention to detail when he came to paint.

We live in a house that's 100 years old. The stairs squeak like crazy and drove us nuts. In fact, we'd often skip the loudest stairs anytime our kids were napping to avoid waking them up. We were introduced to Thomas who fixed the issue with amazing detail. He addressed every stair, reinforcing it with screws, glue and support brackets from underneath the stairwell. Our stairs now make ZERO noise... it feels like we live in a new house. We could not be happier with Carpentry + You and continue to use them for other projects in our house.

Thomas built the most beautiful mantle for our new fireplace. He was excellent to work with in both helping us through the design process and delivering on time. He was meticulous with every detail and showed a passion for ensuring we were happy with the the final product. The quality of the craftsmanship and the attention to its installation were unlike any I've seen. I've already referred Thomas to multiple friends and would continue to do so. My husband found Thomas on a mobile app actually.  He was incredibly responsive and did a great job of giving us different options of styles and price points.  I literally cannot say enough about the craftsmanship and quality of the piece he built.  Not only is it gorgeous but it's an incredibly solid piece made with quality materials that will last forever.  You can tell he takes pride in his work and is incredibly skilled in his trade.  We will definitely use him for future projects and I recommend him without reservation.

Thomas knows our home well, having added beautiful crown, baseboard and shoe molding throughout.? He suggested we might consider replacing?our 47 year old wooden spindle type stair balusters with solid wrought iron ones for a more?updated and modern look.? I had never given it a thought.? My wife was all for it.? I wasn't so much.? As I researched it, I came around and agreed...let's replace them.? Thomas has a local supplier of beautiful, solid, wrought iron balusters of quite a few styles and we agreed on?an alternating?double basket and twist/single basket and twist design.? Thomas installed them with amazing craftsmanship.? They are absolutely beautiful!!!? Thomas is one of those "contractors" (highly skilled and experienced craftsman) that are hard to find and you never want to lose.? Thank you, Thomas!!!

After 34 years of living in a 47 year old house the stairs to the second floor had, over time, become loose and squeaky.  So much so, it was embarrassing to have guests up to the second floor. 

I had called Thomas out for a quote on crown molding.  As he experienced the stairs, being a master woodworker and trim carpenter, they made him cringe.  So...in addition to the crown molding, we had him repair/renew the stairs which he said he could do.  He described the problems and the solutions to each.  Without going into the details of his work, the process and results are amazing. 

In two days, Thomas transformed the stairs into like new!  So much so, when I started down them the first morning after Thomas had completed the work, I thought (subconsciously) that I must have gone deaf.  Another time, I called out loudly to my wife as I was halfway down, thinking she was still upstairs, when she was actually two steps behind me.  We told our daughter, who has lived in another state for 16 years, about the stairs being repaired.  She immediately recalled having to specifically avoid at least three of the worst steps as she was attempting to come home quietly on weekend nights.  We had lived with them being loose and squeaky for 20 years or more!!!

Having found Carpentry + You in a local search, I called and got Tom, the owner, and requested he come out to give us a quote on adding crown molding to our master bedroom.  He came the next morning, bringing samples of the most popular crown molding profiles for use in a single piece crown application.  I was impressed by his professionalism and knowledge from the start.  He highly recommended we use poplar crown due to its superiority over pine or MDF.  Having viewed the profiles, we narrowed it down to double-bead crown, an upgrade over the more common cove crown.  



This required a special order from the millwork company Tom gets his molding from.  The crown was delivered in less than a week and Tom started the job immediately upon its arrival.Not only does Tom only use the best materials, but his work ethic, skill level and experience as a master craftsman is exceptional.  His work is meticulous.  His coping of corner joints was excellent.  The entire job is flawless.  And he has every tool imaginable for this job.  High quality tools. With Tom, there is no such thing as "good enough".  I am totally impressed! Tom has transformed our home into one that looks well-crafted, solid and finally has architectural detail that gives it a true feeling of distinction.  After 34 years of living in a 47 year old home, we've fallen in love with it again!
