The process went well. They are Public Adjusters, and worked through my insurance company to get the repairs taken care of, due to storm damage. The staff was professional, informative, and eager to answer any questions I had. The crew that did the work was punctual, professional, and efficient. It was quite a nice experience and I would recommend them to friends and family.

The job went as planned.  The providers were on time and completed everything as expected.  the new roof looks great and the repairs to the side and gutters also look very good.  Their Rep Chris was proactive in contacting me and would follow-up with m on pending activities proactively.

I would definitely recommend X-ess Exteriors.  Chris Thornburg and team were very professional and responsive.  They handled all the insurance paperwork and worked around my very busy schedule to meet to complete paperwork and pick product.  They completed the removal and replacement in one day and there was not one piece of scrap left in my yard.  I absolutely would work with them again.

The actual replacing of the roof went well. From what I can tell, the roof was done correctly and completely. Despite that, we had many issues involving punctuality, communication, and damage. There doesn't seem to be much communication between the salesman (Don), office (Debbie), and construction crews. This caused several delays throughout the entire process.
Due to issues with the materials, our roof was delayed for a week. The following week, roofers did not show up, and when I called Don he was surprised. Since the crews were busy at other sites, we were delayed another couple days. 2 days later, no roofers, and again Don was surprised when I called. It was another 2 days before the roofers showed up. They worked all day and got the job done. In the process, they damaged a couple window screens, some of the siding, and a terra cotta pot we had on the side of the house. To Don's credit, he had the screens repaired, and compensated us in the final bill for the siding and pot.
We were originally told that we would have to have DirecTv come out after the roof was complete to reposition our dish, since X-ess would only re-mount the dish on the roof. During all of the rescheduling of our roof, I had to keep rescheduling with DirecTv, since the plan was to have them come out the same day that the roof was being completed. When DirecTv came out later that day to position our dish, we found out that the roofers had nailed and tarred the dish to the roof, and also that they did not put it back up correctly. This caused extra holes to be put into that section of the roof, so we had to have that portion re-done. It took almost a month of e-mails, phone calls, texts, and waiting until this portion of the roof was finally repaired, only this time I had the roofer leave the dish on the ground for DirecTv to reinstall. Unfortunately, the roofer showed up without advance notice, and we weren't able to get DirecTv back out to re-install and position the dish until 4 days later, leaving us without service. Having them come out a second time also cost us another service call.
Regarding the shutters, we were originally told that we would need to purchase the shutters ourselves, but that we could just leave them with the roofing materials and they would be installed when the roof was being replaced. The roofers simply moved the shutters onto our porch and when asked, we were told that it was a different crew that does the shutters. This also took a few weeks of e-mails and texts before someone finally showed up on a day we weren't expecting. This person did not have a ladder and needed to borrow ours. (The shutters to be replaced are on the second story) I still wonder what would
have happened if we didn't have a big enough ladder, or worse yet, if something bad were to have happened to the guy while using our ladder.
I did delay signing off with our insurance company until all of the issues we had were dealt with, which unfortunately took a lot longer than expected. At one point Don came over to our house to finalize things. I was under the impression that he was coming over to look at the final issue we still had with some of the siding, and for some reason, he thought we had already received the final check from our insurance company. I had made it clear to both Don and Debbie that I wasn't going to be signing off with our insurance company until all of the noted issues had been resolved, or at least addressed.
We chose to go with X-ess Exteriors due to the fact that they had previously re-roofed several other houses in our neighborhood a few years ago. We talked with some of the neighbors, and they had nothing but good things to say about X-ess. As I stated previously, I feel they did a good job on the actual roof itself, but all of the scheduling and communication issues really left a bad impression on us. I guess things can change in a few years.
During this whole process, I kept a spreadsheet of all schedules, phone calls, texts, e-mails, and issues throughout this whole process. I tried summarizing this the best I could to fit into this review. However, I would be more than willing to share my entire spreadsheet with anyone interested.

I was reffered by one of my closest friend who also used x-ess exteriors. Don helped me to file my insurance claim for the hail damage we had in May. He was able to locate damages and the claim adjuster was in same page.
It took less than a month from filing the claim and replacement of my roof.
It was very smooth easy process.

X-ess exterior was very helpful.  We had good communication about the work that they were about do for my roof.  They worked very fast and efficiently.  They were willing to solve the problems with my insurance, association and the county office for me.  Their customer service was helpful and kind.  They always called ahead of time to let us know about the roof work.  My roof is beautifully done.  We really satisfy with this company and would like to recommend this company to others.  This is very honest company that you can trust.

The roofers came first and totally removed the old roof and then replaced the new one. They did a good job and cleaned up after themselves.  Then came the siding crew with Miguel heading it. They too did a great job.  The house is large, so there was a lot of work to do.  They had to stop before they were totally done due to the weather but returned the next day to complete their work.  My husband had a few concerns when they were done and Don came over and reviewed them with him and Miguel came back and completed all the necessary little things to my husband's satisfaction. My husband is a perfectionist and they met his standards. He was impressed, and he is not easily impressed.  My husband was really happy with the gutter crew.  They came and helped formulate a better way for the drainage to occur then was from the original house being built.  The house looks better than we could have hoped.

It was a pleasure working with X-eSS Exteriors and both my husband and I would highly recommend them.  Thanks for a job well done.

The gentlemen I encountered at Gurnee Mills was nice, and set me up with
Mark, a representative from X-eSS exteriors. He was a typical salesman,
trying to prove why their product and service was better. That was
fine. We chose X-eSS due to the flexible
financing they offered my wife and I. After signing the contract for
installation of the roof that is where the problems with the company
start. Contacting Mark after that point was difficult. It took multiple
calls to his phone, and customer service before we got any feedback
regarding installation dates, financing status, and what to expect. I am
guessing that our age had some factor in his attitude. The little we
spoke to him completely ceased after the installation. He never called
for follow up, and never came to check the quality of the work that was
done. As a matter of fact, no one from the company called to ensure our
satisfaction.

Now for my review of the installation. The roofers themselves seemed
like they were good crew, despite not being able to speak English,
leaving me forced to call customer service for any inquiry. When the
installation was complete we found that our ladder we used on the back
of the house, to get to the roof, was missing. I called the company
regarding this issue and they responded with " we could not find any
ladders, so we don't know where yours is." I have had my ladder in the
back of my home for 3 years without a problem, so to coincidentally be
gone after the roof installation seems to point to the problem.

Lastly, two weeks after the installation we found a huge leak in our
kitchen after a rainfall. I called X- eSS about it and they sent someone
out, who complained that the roof was not leaking before here so he does
not see why it should be leaking now. As if we had done something to
make our roof leak. The guy caulked the roof, and went about his day.
That seemed to fix the problem temporarily, however now again the same
spot is leaking. I had been waiting to write my review of the company. I
am glad I did. The worst roofing company I have dealt with so far.

My wife and I are looking to do a lot more projects in the future and
was looking for a dependable company to rely on. We are taking our
business elsewhere from this point forward.
Response from X-ess Exteriors

"Construction was offered to Mr. [removed member name] as soon as all documents were complete in his file. From mid august to mid September: We had to wait for the owner to send us a copy of his Insurance scope of work to keep within his budget. We had to wait for the owner to receive financial approval for a loan. We have had several communications with the owner and answered any of his questions along the way. Work was scheduled weather permitting as soon as his file was complete. We also agreed to help the owner and let him tear off his own roof per his request. Owner actually could not finish the tear off and asked us on the day of construction to finish it. We also did email the final invoice to the owner and called him several times leaving voice mails for several weeks following the end of the roof completion without any call back from the owner. Several weeks later we did receive a call telling us about a missing ladder, we did do due diligence and asked every member of the roofing crew about it as well as checking the tools in the warehouse. The owner mentioned he knew the ladder was outside the whole week because he used it himself to tear off his roof and does not know when it disappears. We informed him of the result of our search. After a major storm in October we also receive a call from owner in October because there was a leak through the kitchen ceiling. After sending our roofer back it turned out that the original flashing around a skylight was leaking. Owner did not change any flashing around the skylights. We caulked it accordingly. On 11/28/2013, It had been 2 months since the work was been completed and Owner had not paid us in full for the work done on his house. We kept an open communication and we never received additional calls regarding a new leak. Owner is welcome to call us & we will repairs any problem without questions. We offered a 3 year warranty on labor. We have given the homeowner flexibility, communication, quality of work and any help he needed to achieve his goal. On 12/19/2013, we had contacted & met with Mr. [removed member name] and what he thought was a new leak was not. Mr. [removed member name] was referring to the water spot of the past leak that was already repaired on 12/12/13. We have also received a new phone number from Mr. [removed member name] to be able to contact him. The number we were using was for his wife and that is where we left numerous voice mails. All work is complete. We will be sending him a new invoice showing past payment via email in the coming day."
