It is also another great vet. It is after-hours. They were really responsive and caring. We were very satisfied with their help.

They gave her fluids and a regimen to monitor the vomiting and try giving water and food. After another 1.5 days she was still vomiting so I brought her to my vet. They examined the necklace and it turned out that she ate castor beans which are highly poisonous (used to make ricin). She was near death by this time and I rushed her back to the eVet for 24-hour care. She was at the eVet for 4-days. Although I feel they did not do enough to identify what she ate the first time I brought her in, the love and care she received while she was there for 4-days was amazing. I am so very grateful for AETC because my dog survived the poisoning. They were very honest along the way about the prognosis and were very kind and caring every time we were there visiting. As a side note, I have another dog with a heart condition that required surgery. They had a specialist on staff that performed the surgery and this dog has also done very well. Again, the special attention they provided us when we visited was much appreciated. Yes, it costs a lot and I wish the cost was cheaper BUT I am so very glad they are there when we need them. With four pets it is very important to us to have a place we can trust to bring our pets if there is an emergency.

It was open on the weekend and she had to have surgery. They were open and available when my regular vet was not.
They were able to remove a tumor from her abdomen in a day. It's like an emergency room for animals.

Both the vets and the staff were exceptional. Dr. Larsen suggested we do an endoscopy on my elder kitty to be sure that his illness was not cancerous. I dropped him off in the morning and was able to pick him up that same evening. Fortunately no cancer was found and the diagnosis is Inflammatory Bowel Disorder (IBD) which is treatable with steroids. Yes, the price was high but I had great confidence in the vet - which is worth it when one is dealing with a member of his/her family. And they do give you ahead of time the expected cost and also refer you to an amazing service that does not charge any interest so long as it is paid off within one year of the procedure. It is for emergencies or rush exams and is open 24/7 - so you still maintain your original vet.

I was very impressed with everyone I dealt with at AETC, from the front desk staff, to the nurse, to the doctor who actually performed the euthanasia. I brought my cat to AETC because I had a negative experience with the other major Urban Chicago 24 hour veterinary ER a few days ago when I took my cat there for supportive care (i.e., fluids, painkillers, etc.). Suffice to say, the other ER was unwilling to allow my very sick cat to stay there more than one night to receive hospice-like care while we determined whether antibiotics prescribed by my regular vet for the mouth ulcer were working or if, indeed, it was a malignant tumor (apparently they're doing so well that they don't need the $400-$500 a day I was willing to pay for her intensive care, despite the fact that 90% of the cages in the hospital appeared to be unoccupied when I visited my cat on the one night she was allowed to stay there). When it became clear to me today that my cat was not going to improve (and was no longer able to eat or drink on her own), I decided to bring her to AETC instead of the other ER and I'm very happy that I did so. The staff were very understanding and allowed me to be present while the doctor administered the sedative and euthanizing injection. They made me feel comfortable and never rushed me, asking both before and after the euthanasia if I wanted additional time with my cat and allowing me to be with her in a private room throughout the experience. They handled the payment situation sensitively as well, and I felt that their prices were reasonable for a 24 hour facility. The Chicago facility is very new, clean, and well-maintained (as well as spacious). I used one of their dedicated parking spots right outside the main door. I have one other cat and two dogs and will be coming to AETC for all my future veterinary emergency needs.
