"In response to this posting, we were asked to provide an estimate for a timing belt and water pump replacement along with whatever else the vehicle may have needed at that time, the mileage was 105,000 and the vehicle is a Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.8L Turbo.. The estimate in question provided a timing belt replacement with a water pump and serpentine drive belt, thermostat, thermostat housing and flange, as the seals were leaking. The other recommendations were for a tune up, replacement of all the PCV rubber hoses that had created an oil leak and a fuel filter. We had suggested a timing belt kit which consists of a belt, belt tensioning roller and relay roller, a water pump with a metal impeller due to the high failure rate of the standard plastic one which was double the price but overheating an aluminum engine can cause major damage and we did not feel that the additional 90.00 was exorbitant. All labor operations were used from a nationally published labor guide and all parts were manufacturer’s prices except for the upgraded ones. We offered an estimate for only the water pump and belts which was comparable to the other shop as well. Our warranty for the job is 2 years or 24,000 miles and we offered a free service loaner."
"In response to this posting, we removed the headlamp capsule that was partially filled with water to dry over night. The head lamp is a HID bulb (High Intensity Discharge) and is very expensive; water will ruin any type bulb especially a HID. We thoroughly dried the inside of the capsule and replaced both the head lamp ad the fog lamp. We tried to reseal the capsule with silicone sealer to keep the moisture out and save the customer from having to replace the head lamp capsule which costs over 500.00"
