"I did not log in into my Angies List account for last month. If this was scheduled by phone or text, then I would responded quick. This is my fault I know, is just the way I am. Email is not a good way to contact me. Please call or text me to schedule free estimates. If I did not pick up the phone, I always call back within 1-2 days for sure."
We love the way the kitchen came out and could not be happier.
First of all, his guys are professionals. They are skilled, thorough, and experienced. They also are very clean and courteous. They came on time, and cleaned up every evening. Darek came by the house almost every day to check the work and make sure everything was great. They gutted my bathroom to the studs, removed the cast iron tub, replaced an old glass block window with new glass blocks, jacked out the old tile and concrete floor, and re-wired, re-plumbed, re-insulated and re-framed as needed and new cement board. The tile work was excellent. Also, Darek is great at helping you figure out how to get what you want-- you don't have to have all of the answers. He has experience and will lead you. He is a quiet guy, but that is because he is always thinking of how to do things correctly. Studio 41 ordered the wrong stuff , and it caused a delay. Darek moved on to another job, but once the stuff came in, he made time to come back and finish our bathroom. He also came back one night to pick up his final payment, and I showed him something that needed to be fixed and he stayed for another hour or two to fix it right then and there.
I saw some reviews that were critical of Darek's responsiveness. I think if you are looking to hire a small company, especially one where the owner is involved in doing the work, you have to expect that they will not always be available to talk, and you may need to call them a couple of times. That's just the nature of the business. These are guys who are working hard to make a living, and sometimes in order to make money they work on tight schedules, and delays can set them back. That's the trade-off for getting quality work done at a reasonable price from good people.
"I always request from my customers to have all merchandise to be purchased and waiting for us the first day we start the project. A lot of items were ordered on internet, some came late, and we had to wait for them. Some where bed, and had to be replaced with new items. I had to make a time to come back while I was already working for other customers. I had to make time and try to keep other customers happy at the same time. (member name removed) expected me to come back next day, but I could not. As stated above I started working on someone else projects and could not skip days making other customers unhappy. I did my best with all available time I had. It is true, I'm not responding to emails quick, I check them every 2-3 days, I prefer if people contact me by calling me directly or by sending a text. Most of the time I respond the same day."
"I called owner to let him know that we won't be able to make it that day - ask if we can reschedule. He insisted to come that day, so we came at 6:00 pm and did all the work he asked for, but was not able to fix a carpet. Well I can do a lot of things around the house, but there is still some work I would still hire another professional to do work for me. The job was a Big Deal promotion for $199, for 2 guys work for 3.5 hrs - I was not planing to stay there whole afternoon anyway."
As other Angie's List reviews have pointed out, Darek really is a perfectionist. He takes his time and really puts all of his effort into whatever he is working on. I had many questions & concerns along the way and never once felt that I was annoying him with my queries (and if I was, he sure hid it well :) In fact, his whole crew was very courteous, knowledgeable & hardworking. They often worked into the late evening hours and the job was always superbly done. In the instances where there were minor things - like a couple kitchen cabinet doors rubbing into each other, a rough spot on a baseboard, etc.- I just mentioned it to Darek & he would send someone to take care of it.
Darek diligently responded to my texts and calls and really kept me in the loop of the project. If a problem arose, he contacted me to let me know what was going on and always had a plan on how to fix it. I very much appreciated the communication, thoroughness and "can do" attitude of Darek & his crew. They collectively have the skill set to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. I cannot sing their praises loud enough and highly recommend Chicagoland Finest, Inc. to anyone in need of a detail oriented, skilled, honest & hardworking contractor. They are definitely a diamond in the rough!
"I did perform a Big Deal promotion, we did what we could within specified time. I came late because I could not schedule it for the morning hours. I worked for someone else that day in the morning and had to complete this job before coming to my next scheduled job."
We had spent more than a year selecting the various components of our kitchen, starting with a kitchen design done by a third party that we paid $500 for. We used it when soliciting renovation bids so that everyone would be on the same page and bidding on the same project.
The basic kitchen renovation took 7.5 weeks starting November 5, 2013. We didn't make the final payment until Feb. 22, 2014
because we had to wait for various damaged cabinet components to be remade by the cabinet maker in southern Indiana.
Derek demoed the old kitchen and the wall separating the kitchen and the dining room. He framed walls, replaced the old ceiling light fixture with 7 can lights, roughed in 5 new electric outlets, provided wiring from new main electrical panel in the basement and installed 4, 4-way electric outlets.
He providing plumbing to hook up new kitchen Grohe faucet, kitchen sink and Bosch dishwasher. Our kitchen design schematic was off by two inches--no one, including our certified kitchen designer accounted for the depth of the dishwasher and a plumbing pipe that extended into the old kitchen cabinet. This is where Derek the problem solver emerged. His solution--move the entire west wall two inches into the kitchen space, putting the pipe behind the wall not in front of the wall or into the back of the new cabinet.
Issac, Jurek, Darek and Felipe worked on various projects aspects: installed insulation, drywall, performed finish carpentry, painting, installed the new maple cabinets, rerouted 2 HVAC heating ducts (including a return duct on the second floor that had never worked) and tiled the landing leading to the basement. We used High Quality Hardwood Flooring of Hoffman Estates to install the hardwood flooring we had purchased at A-American Flooring in Niles. Darek had a subcontractor install the kitchen cabinets. The Hass Homestead collection cabinets were ordered through Hobo kitchen design in Waukegan Il.
Chicagoland Finest provided kitchen rough materials. We provided the cabinets, countertop, dishwasher and microwave oven.
We had updated our electric from 60 amps (listing sheet for our house said 100 amps ) to 100 amps to handle the extra load in the new kitchen a few months before the renovation started. Ardmore Electric installed the new panel and performed the associated electrical work.
Total kitchen renovation cost, including labor, materials, and new appliances came to about $24,000.
