Stan had worked for me previously.  His estimate for the work is fair, he arrives on time and completes the work in the time allotted.
Excellent service at a great price!

We were happy with the work. My husband was unhappy that Stan charges by the hour. He felt like the ending price was high, and thought it was ridiculous that he was charging by the hour. The quality of the work is good, and I find Stan easy to deal with. He does return my phone calls and I would recommend him.

Stain was poorly done, and had started to come off in under 3 months. Storm door was not properly replaced. Water and snow seeps in between storm door frame and outside siding surface all the time since the replacement. When I called him upon discovering the problem, he said he would come and take a look but never did. Decided not to hire him again.

Stan the Handyman and his helper Bruce were prompt in responding to my phone call and arrived on time. I found that Bruce did most of the workk and Stan watched most of the time and helped once in a while. When they painted the bannister, they covered my entry rug which covered a wood floor  and painted in that area. I thought that was a very poor choice and watched to see that my wood floor was not going to get paint on it. Their biggest mistake was installing shelves in a basement closet. I had purchased all the equipment and left them to do their job. Stan stayed down there while this was being done, but Bruce did the installation and I wondered why Stan was not working on something else. After that they made a list of materials needed for the other jobs, and they BOTH went to Home Depot for at least 45 minutes to get these supplies. Stan is talkative and even stopped to show me that he could paint the corners of the walls with touch up paint. I quickly got him back to the project at hand. The rest of the day was slow.  Stan did remove the 40+ tiles that were on the wall and they did fix the folding doors. I kept checking on their progress and was always amazed that more had not been done. That night I went to check the shelves and found that they were just sitting on the brackets and if one of my grandchilden, ages 6,4 and 2, had pulled on the shelf. it would have come tumbling down on them. I was so distressed that I called Stan at 10:30PM that night and told him that I did not want him to continue working in my house. I explained the problem of the shelves to him and how distressed I was. He tried to give me excuses, but I was firm on firing him. Their charge for the day was $480.00 but I could not see paying that much money for one guy who worked most of the day and another who watched most of the day. I refused to pay that amount and ended up paying $300.00. I hired thim based on their ratings, but did not read all the ratings. The older reviews were much better than the other reviews and that was my mistake for not reading everything. I would suggest that anyone who uses this list read all reviews because quality of work changes with time.
Response from STAN THE HANDYMAN
"Stan the Handyman strives to provide top level service to every customer we do work for. We are a small but highly talented group of workers who skill sets cover a wide variety of handyman services that many times will be subcontracted out by larger companies. I (Stan) personally work on the majority of the jobs we do and demand the highest level of professionalism from my employees. We regret that this member was not happy with our services and offered to return to fix any problems she may have had. I wish him the best in his efforts to find a company that he feels better suits her needs. -Stan"

I have had Stan out twice this month. I had a very long list of jobs that ranged from installing new faucets to repairing my skylights. Stan and Bruce were very knowledgable about how something should be done and did the work efficiently and right. What I loved about them is that they would notice little things that needed work, they would fix it immediately and it was included in their hourly rate. Many little "fixes" required no materials, just maybe tightening of a screw or a little grease. I feel like I got to know a service I can depend upon and can trust. They are now on my permanent list of businesses to call when I need help.

I ended up spending more than I thought. I wasn?t aware he had a two hour minimum. I felt this could have been clearer initially. The services were average.
Response from STAN THE HANDYMAN
"We actually performed other work for this member that is not reported above. Our minimum service time is also one hour, not two. I am not sure where this assumption of a two hour minimum came from but we were doing work for this member for well over an hour. Our goal is to provide the best service possible to our customers and if there was any discretion we are happy for our customers to bring it to our attention. This member commented favorably on our work at the time, and apparently changed her mind later. We appreciate any and all feedback from Angie's List members as it truly helps our company become better. - Stan"

The work was well done. The job was completed quickly as there were two men working. He quoted me $80/hour for the job (for two people very reasonable). When the job was finished which took 1 hour, Stan the Handyman said his minimum charge is $100. This was never communicated to me.

I met Stan and went over all the requirements. He brought the painter back to give a better estimate on the painting work. The whole process took a couple of weeks, without me there for any of it. I gave him keys and he worked on it when he could and reported back. Because the place is vintage, it was difficult for them to find parts for the very old door knob, but after a lot of trial and error they found a solution to it. Stan called and kept me up on the progress. They actually spent a lot more time trying to find parts than what they charged me for. The painters began work the next week and spent a full 5 1/2 days between patching and painting. I chose colors and they bought the paint for me. They did a great job patching and painting. It looked better than I expected! But, they missed some major spots. I showed Stan what they had missed, and he had them come back and no charge a few days later. The did most of it but not all of it. I was eager to get the place rented and was very happy with the bulk of the painting. In general, it turned out well, and I was so relieved to have everything done, and on time. I do think that because handyman work changes for each job, it is always hard to estimate how long it will take. I think you should expect it to take longer than the estimate when they run into problems.

They arrived pretty much as scheduled (I was not at home when they first arrived), it wasn't until about 1:00PM that I arrived home but had been in phone contact regarding the events as they unfolded. They ran into heating/cooling ducts in that portion of the wall that was to be moved back. Consequently, it took 1/2 day to disassemble the wall, and they began placing elbows on the ducts to move them back and rebuild the wall. I understand having to add another 1/2 day to the job to complete the rerouting/moving back the ductwork. However, the job began to drag on and went another 1 and 1/2 days beyond the origional 1 day estimate. I have difficulty understanding another 1 and 1/2 days when it only delayed them by 1/2 day to reroute the ductwork. Nevertheless, with each additional day (at $600) or 1/2 day ($300) the price continued to go up. They wanted to return an additional day to complete the sanding and priming of the job, to which I advised I would complete it myself - they did not finish the job that was estimated. Had they returned, it would have been another $600 day. As professionals they had to know without rerouting the ductwork that the drywall compound alone would need to dry and would take a 2nd day, then additional time for a second coat of drywall, time needed to dry then priming - again time to dry (the can indicated 2 hours before painting). My point, they had to know without running into any problems it would take at least 2 days or $1,250. and to get the job it was estimated at $600. SUGGEST: Get the COMPLETED NOT ESTIMATED job in writing with hours/days and total finished cost from this contractor/handyman otherwise the job will end up being at least 2 1/2 times your estimate. l must say, that portion of the job that they got completed was done well but I still had to sand both the inside and outside of the new wall, prime and paint myself which was (except for the final painting possible) in the original estimate. A job partially done is never a job completely well done!

Approx. 1 week later, he and tile expert/mechanically skilled workman, Bruce, arrived punctually and proceeded methodically to repair bathroom wall and tile, repaired fan in another bathroom(light unrepairable) and sealed shower edge, repaired leak in ceiling below bathroom leak and painted it, repaired broken hinge in kitchen cabinet, repaired stuck patio screen, and replaced broken doorbell. Everything explained as repairs proceeded. A minimum of conversation took place; they were too busy working to talk. At one point Stan left to pick up needed supplies. They finished in 5 1/2 hours. Beautiful work.

Stan was responsive and professional. Was pricier than most handymen, but he was working with a partner and estimated four hours for all the work. We decided to work with him. It took a full four hours to just powerwash the deck (he thought he'd be able to powerwash and stain in four hours). I ended up staining the deck myself. Meanwhile, His partner fixed our door, clean/repair the grout and fixed 2 ceiling fans. He did a sloppy job repairing the grout and the fan continues to squeak. Because he took so long to get these few jobs done - (he maxed out the 4 hour limit) - he was not able to finish several things on our list. Stan and his partner did come back the next day to fix things at our request - but there is still grout missing in several places and our fan still squeaks. His partner also flushed a lot of dirt and a lot of old caulking down our toilet (which could've clogged the toilet. Overall, I was disapointed in the quality of the work - particularly Stan's partner. They were professional about coming back out to repair the work I was unhappy about...however, for the price I was paying, I expected higher quality work. Next time, I'll hire a grout cleaning specialist and a grout repair specialist to do those kinds of jobs.
Response from STAN THE HANDYMAN
"2 people worked for over 6 hours, Just the power washing took 4 hours. Of course The cedar cabinets, chairs and the table were added after. About the grouting, at the beginning, I said it could only be touched up, Taking out the cement grout and replacing it would take days. The price for 4 hours was the most that she wanted to spend. The fans originally were not mounted properly, there were no support brackets, the only option without taking them down was to try and balance them, but once again there was no time or money available."

Very happy - work was performed on century old Evanston condo containing brittle and warped wood throughout. A good amount of skill was required to "do it right," and the work was excellent. All parts included in approximate spend.

Stan responded promptly to my bid request. He and Bruce came out and were able to talk knowledgeably about this project, as well as about other potential projects that I have. They were professional, courteous and prompt. The new fence looks great and I had a great experience working with them. Highly recommended.

He was very nice and it worked out very well. I have a rental property and he was able to go there and work with my tenants. I didn't even have to be there. He was wonderful in that sense, really great. He called me before he got there and he called me immediately afterward. He was excellent and I think his price was okay. He has a minimum charge and that's only fair. I wouldn't say the price was excellent but it was fair.

The work went well. The desk was not completed because it took more time than I wanted to pay for. I eventually bought one that was cheaper than the one I needed put together. The nicest part of time was his willingness to do a couple of small lifting jobs that I couldn't do because of disabilities.

It was excellent. The handyman, Rudy, did an amazing job, cleaned up after himself, and even helped the garbage men with the debris from the job which was extensive. The price was less than the other two companies I was considering as well.

It went very well, the window was broken and we didn't have enough shingles and some other part of the roof were missing. Ed talked to the people we ordered the shed from, they sent some replacement parts and Ed could buy some of the others to match. This process was exceptional. as Ed called and looked at the company installations on the net. The shed was pricey, but I had no idea the installation would be so much. But they were here for 9 days (not full days) and they did have to buy some parts. And the final product looks great. The colors we picked for the shed matched the house and it really looks beautiful.
