"This Job was completed close to ten years ago. They contacted me last year regarding a roof leak, on the addition we did. Water must have been leaking for well over a year. We rebuilt 4 kitchen cabinets, which were moldy and warped. We remove the countertops. We removed and replaced drywall and insulation and painted room. I pointed out to the husband that if he would have called me when it first showed signs of water leaking, the repair job would have been just small roof repair and washing a small spot. And that repair I would have made for free. If you wait a couple years to call, you have to take some responsibility. Which the husband agreed. He paid less than half of my cost of repair. His wife did not agree with that. The job started out with a room addition with kitchen. When that was completed. They hired us to build a $25,000 deck with hot tub. The following year we did a brick walkway and patio. The next year we did basement work."

Marshall showed up the next morning with two workers. By the end of the next day, my porch, deck, and railings were good as new and stained perfect. They really did a great job at a price that was reasonable. Most importantly, they showed up as promised and knew what they were doing. Highly recommended.

The construction job went very well, although it took some time to do. That said, the crew arrived on a Tuesday and finished the following week, working everyday, full days, straight through. You could tell from watching them while they worked and then after inspecting the work that they worked with care and skill. The deck replacement looks great and we have received several compliments on it. The estimate came in the lowest of three and Marshall was very good about the whole thing. He's straightforward: no BS or not looking you in the eye. We've been involved with several contractors and Marshall was the best. I recommend him to you and would certainly employ him and his crew again. Excellent work.

Workmen were punctual and respectful. Work was quality. Took longer than we were told but not too bad. Didn't do a great job explaining what end product would look like but was beautiful in the end.

The work was very high quality, at a reasonable price and within a reasonable time frame. They were responsive when we had a leak appear after they were finished, and we haven't had any problems since then.

I am so very pleased that I chose M Dennison Construction for this large project! I had researched several firms on Angie's List, received several estimates, but I was most impressed with Marshall's professional background, design aesthetic and the reviews by customers who actually had work performed by his company.
When I first met with Marshall to discuss the project, I liked the way he approached the work. His experience & expertise were evident in his desire to understand my goals, in his assessment of the situation and in the suggestions he offered. He provided a quote quickly, was available to discuss the details and we agreed on the work to be done.
The project started almost immediately.... Marshall's crew was fabulous...prompt, courteous, professional... with a great work ethic. As issues surfaced during construction, which happens in all projects, we were able to discuss the situations easily and find resolution. I truly appreciated how he (and his crew) would notice what needed to be done to do the job properly to ensure I would have an enduring, high quality result. For example, there was always a damp section on the lower deck and I thought that was just the nature of the area. Marshall and his crew worked hard to find the source of the problem, creatively addressed the difficulty presented and made sure the decking and the structure would be safe, solid and long lasting.
Marshall created a new privacy wall on the upper deck that enhanced the area and also incorporated aspects of my Mother's original deck design. He is a rare commodity... an expert contractor with design sensibility. I found him to be responsive, responsible, available and concerned with every aspect of the project and my satisfaction.
Home repairs, especially of this size, make me anxious... Marshall's background, intelligence and wonderful sense of humor made for a very pleasant experience. Getting to know his fabulous crew over several days and seeing their expert work made me feel very trustful of the quality provided by M. Dennison Construction.
I look forward to working with Marshall again on future projects!

Marshall is awesome to work with. He's fair, creative and the work product is excellent. He will make sure that you are happy and will help you work through any surprises that you come across (which always seems to happen in construction). Their work has been excellent. He is the guy that runs the place. If you call him, he is immediately responsive. They did an excellent job. They were quick in building and it looks beautiful. The price is fair.

They came out and inspected everything and noted the problems and then came back to do the job. They were very clean, prompt, had all equipment and finished in a half day. I was very pleased with their services. I would recommend them to others and would use them again.

Extremely professional -- very prompt with a detailed proposal; provided some options to consider; explained the reasons behind the recommendations. The work crew showed up when promised and worked consistently, they removed debris at the end of each day and kept the work site very tidy. Marshall checked in frequently throughout the process to assure the project was completed on time, on budget and was easier and even better than we expected. Very good value for the investment.

Marshall Dennison built this original deck 15 years ago. When it came time to resurface the deck, Marshall was the logical choice. He immediately remembered my name, the type of deck he built, the landscaping he originally suggested.. even my job. We discussed the rebuild, my options for materials and whatever enhancements we wanted. Dennison Construction did not give me the lowest bid, but the value they offered was excellent. Marshall, Steve and Casey did a great job? fine craftsmanship, very meticulous, designed a custom enclosure for my Big Green Egg and DCS grill, even using new heat and flame resistant materials for the high temperatures that my new grills produced. After the deck and enclosure was completed, Marshall accompanied me to the landscape nursery on his own time to help me pick out appropriate plantings to match the new deck. Here's a Marshall quote at the nursery: "I know the deck is done, but I still think its my deck and I want to make sure it looks great." How many contractors actually take personal ownership of the final product and take a Sunday off the clock to make sure it turns out great?

Marshall did a great job designing and installing a new patio for us. He designed a two level patio that has a grill station and plenty of space for a table. The. The lower level has a gas fire pit and flower beds. He was even able to work in the limestone from the old patio wall. We love it and everyone that's seen it loves it too.

Marshall was an absolute pleasure to work with and we would recommend him to anyone. We were looking for a general contractor to remove a wall in our new home on extremely short notice. We called about 10 people on Angie's List and didn't leave messages. Marshall was the only one who called us back. Additionally, when he did, he asked a lot of questions regarding the wall to educate me and also to get the most detailed information about the project at hand. I was really impressed because I could tell he was extremely knowledgeable and detail-oriented based on this exchange. A couple of minutes later, he called me back. Apparently, he had gotten on Zillow and had found a picture of the exact wall that we wanted to remove, which was absolutely going the extra mile and reflected his level of diligence.
Marshall and his team were able to do the job on extremely short notice and for a price that was beyond fair. For us, this project established our relationship with him, as we absolutely will be calling him again as we continue to make additional improvements.

Marshall did a great job coming up with the new design for our deck and was patient and accommodating to all our requests. He also took care obtaining the permit and all approvals required by city (in our town it is always challenging). His crew was very friendly and did a very good job building the deck. I would definitely recommend them and would not hesitate to use them in the future if we will need any work done.

Dennison construction was on time for every appointment. Marshall had some creative design insight to help us with redesigning our deck. he gave us great suggestions on product. All work was completed on time and according to design specs. Solid craftsmanship. Would use again.

I found M. Dennison Construction to be a great contractor to hire for a few reasons.
First, Marshall's (the owner) price was competitive, but in addition to a fair price, they offered added details with no cost.
This proved to me he was committed to a job as a whole, Marshall takes personal pride in his design and workmanship, not just providing a check list of what I paid him for.
Marshall has wonderful creative talents, which is very rare in the construction field these days. for others, the "art" of a job is no longer a priority, it ends up being only the bottom line.
One example of many; our previous bathroom had no trim work done on the ceiling or door frames, Marshall pointed that out to me, saying it was needed to keep the rooms uniformed, and that he had driven to a few stores to find the exact molding which was displayed throughout the rest of the house. He even noticed in another bathroom which was not being worked on, had a baseboard that too did not match the house...which he then repleced for free.
His team of workers are very good. They are respectful and cleaned up at the end of each day. I was comfortable leaving them in the house while I was gone during the day and they too had pride in their workmanship.
Marshall did all the town permit work for us.
In conclusion my bathroom is beautiful. With Marshall's vision we kept the style to compliment a 100 year old home but up-dated it to todays standard.
I have already given M.Dennison's name to 2 friends and I would use him in the future for another product.
I describe him as a contractor AND an artist combined into one.

Marshal was very prompt in answering all phone calls and arriving on short notice to provide a quote about the best way to fix our problem. After deciding that Marshals service was the best for our problem he did a great job providing a more thorough detail of the way he would address our problem and provide services. One thing that he could improve on would be the ability to give a time that he would be able to come out for the job. He was only able to describe that it would be some time in the next couple of weeks, it would have been nice to know the exact time that he was coming so we could schedule around that. However, our job was small and it's understandable that he had larger jobs that he had to work around. When Marshals team arrived to do the work they were on time and even early for the time that they quoted. They worked very hard and were extremely professional. The work was completed on time and on budget even with some extra issues that were encountered and unexpected. Marshal even stopped by the site many times during the day which made us feel very confident that we were getting the best service and treatment possible. Everything about this work was above expectations. We would absolutely recommend Marshal to our friends in the future.

The owner of the company, Marshall Dennison, is very helpful and very easy to work with. I emailed him pictures of the fence and the problems I had with it - where one of the walls had fallen down and how the fence pulling away from one of the walls of my condo had left holes in that wall. Marshall immediately began to brainstorm possible solutions and directed me to a website full of images of very stylish roof top decks, many done right here in Chicago, to use as sources of inspiration. He also used Google Maps to look at what my neighbors were doing with their decks and discussed with me the pros and cons of doing something similar vs. doing something different. It reminded me of working with an interior designer. He is very smart and very collaborative.
Although the job I had in mind was smaller than what he would normally handle, he worked with me to get the most out of my limited budget. He arrived at my place on time with his crew and quickly surveyed what had to be done. He stopped to briefly reconfirm what we had agreed on - what work was to be done and where the debris would be deposited once the work was complete - and then got right to work. It was like clockwork and a breath of fresh air after the last guy I worked with (who always seemed to work in fits and starts, missing this or that tool or not having enough wood).
And despite having instructions that weren't well written, he also figured out how to assemble my porch glider (a welcome addition to my newly done roof deck). Again, it reminded me of working with an interior designer because many of them try to leave your space with something unique.
Net net, this guy is top notch. He knows his stuff, will help you figure out the right thing to do, gives you a fair price and does an excellent job. I recommend him highly and would use him again and again.

Excellent overall service. When Marshall came out to provide a quote, he brought samples with and was able to provide a quote the same day. The price was very reasonable and he worked around our calendar to schedule the work. He and his team arrived on time and did the work in a very efficient manner. When a massive storm flooded our large finished basement, we hired an emergency remediation company who tried after a few hours of work to triple their ?estimate? for removal of damaged material. A friend suggested we call M. Dennison Construction for a second opinion. Marshall took our call at 9:30 p.m. and had his team at our house first thing the next morning. Marshall assessed the situation, gave us a solid (and reasonable!) price and immediately got his team to work. They not only completed the removal work, but they also cleaned and sanitized the affected areas, built beautiful baseboards and laid and stained new wood flooring that perfectly matched the rest. Dennison Construction for two other upcoming jobs. There is no doubt we will hire them for others.

Contacted Marshall after reading reviews in Angie's List and we arranged to meet and look at the job. He came on time and walked through house, which was wreck at the time and within half an hour had a proposal in my hands. When we were ready to do the work, he scheduled it in a timely manner and the crew showed up on time and worked through the day every day until it was all completed. No interruptions, no leaving for a few days to do other jobs or typical excuses for work delays. Very professional. The men who are on the crew are all seasoned carpenters with multiple skills, all very nice to have around the house, polite and careful. It was apparent they have all worked together for quite some time, they work as a flawless unit. They were resourceful when unexpected issues came up and were always there when inspectors came and each inspection was passed without problems. I even added a few additional items to be done, like the two doors, and Marshall proposed a very reasonable fee for the added work. He was frequently here to supervise the work, or if needed to answer a questions during the day was always available. I've worked with a number of contractors in the past, and have to say that that this was by far the most pleasant general contractor experience I've had. I'd have them back in a heartbeat and can highly recommend them. Also, Marshall has a great design sense and lots of experience and added a lot of helpful suggestions both before the work and while it was gong on to make the project more economical and fluid.

I found Marshall on Angie's list and went with him based on the earlier reviews here. Marshall was excellent to work with. I had a design in mind for doing a pergola over 1/4 of my rooftop deck without instlalling a support beam in the middle (by using angled slats on top) but wasn't sure if it was viable or how it ,would look. He liked my plan but added some other ideas on how to frame the lattice wall. He itemized everything including the staining which I wasn't sure if I would do myself, so the pricing was clear..and very fair.
We had some weather issues scheduling around all the spring rain but he was flexible in starting the earliest time possible around his project schedule and the forecast. The quality of the work was outstanding - very solidly built pergola and looks fantastic.
I would definitely recommend Marshall to include on your estimate list...and his work overall - I would use him again for sure.

Marshall responded to bid request very promptly and made estimate based on visible rotted wood to be replaced. Workers arrived with materials. During removal of rotted sill it was discovered that the roof supports were improperly resting on the sill, not attached to the wall and had also rotted. Marshall rebid the job and we easily agreed on the pricing and the method of repair. Job was completed on time, the work site was left in a pristine condition and I was given instructions on preparing the new construction for painting. Very professional, no non-sense, honest contractor. I will be asking Marshall again for other projects.

This spring the guys I have used Marshall and his guys for several projects in the last couple of years.
Marshall is very personable and he sticks with his quotes.
I worked with a designer to outline the plan for the master bedroom, although Marshall always has ideas for improving the project.
In the bedroom, Marshall provided me with a contact for purchasing the new door and I saved several hundred dollars.
The guys came when we agreed and any furniture that was left in the room was covered and protected. They worked quickly to replace the windows with the new door and drywall. The outside of the house needed additional siding and they took pieced from the far side of my garage to make the best match with the existing siding. There were further issues with accessing and replacing siding on the side of the house in a narrow gangway and Marshall outsourced the project to a very reasonably priced subcontractor.
As we worked on the closet project, Marshall suggested that we make an additional change of removing a second door which gives the room more wall space and was an improvement over the original plan.
It was a multi-day process to drywall, prime and paint but the paint job was very professionally done. I typically use a professional painter and have found other contractors to be okay, but not as good as the professional. In this case, I thought the guys were on par with my professional.
