Garage King

The owner came out to take a look at it and he said that someone would be calling me about it.  He told me that shouldn't happen since it's fairly new.  I never got a call back and when I tried calling several times and left messages and they never answered.

We got a couple of quotes and Garage King was by far the lowest. If you want a standard garage with vinyl siding Garage King s price and level of service cannot be beat. We were not the easiest customers because we were not decisive about materials and required several change orders. Murray, the salesperson was patient and really bent over backwards to accommodate and help us. We finally opted for cedar shingles and other upgrades. As I mentioned before, Garage King is extremely competitive for certain materials that they buy in bulk but upgrades become very costly. Ultimately, Garage King erected the new garage and installed the windows we had made. They coordinated the demo, concrete and electrical work, which all went very smooth. We purchased the siding and trim ourselves and had our own contractor install them. With the exception of a wavy roof on one side of a gable roof, Garage King did nice work. We were told someone would come out to assess the roof and determine what, if anything, could be done. No one ever showed up however and eventually they stopped returning my calls.

I spoke to half a dozen builders and Garage King came in with the lowest bid. They do not include electric and the upgrades can get expensive so in the end they probably were not that much cheaper than everyone else. Murray, the salesmen for the north side has a very rehearsed presentation. He is perfectly polite and keeps his appointments. Once we went with Garage King, everything moved fairly quickly. The demonstration took a few hours, then after another week the concrete went in, and then after a week or so the garage went up in a day. The positive is the price and Garage King seems very adept as building efficiently. As the name would imply, they seem to build a ton of garages. They are not really a custom shop. My biggest complaint is the quality of the garage, which is a huge issue. I have had no problems thus far, but the installation of the access door is shoddy and just the number of nails that misfired on the framing is huge.

WE WAITED A LONG TIME BETWEEN SIGNING THE CONTRACT AND THE DAY THE CONSTRUCTION BEGAN. I OFTEN HAD TO PHONE THEM, THEY NEVER CALLED ME. BE VERY SPECIFIC WHEN FILLING OUT THE CONTRACT SPEC'S. WE ENLARGED THE CONTRACT ON A XEROX MACHINE SO WE COULD READ THE NOTES AND THE FINE PRINT. MY HUSBAND REALLY WATCHED WHAT THE WORKMEN WERE DOING TO MAKE SURE WE GOT WHAT WAS ON THE CONTRACT. MAKE SURE YOU ARE AT HOME THE DAY YOUR GARAGE IS BUILT. THE WORKMANSHIP WAS EXCELLENT. THE GARAGE LOOKS GREAT.

KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE QUOTE (ASK QUESTIONS)

THE SALESMAN WAS WONDERFUL AND PRICE AND QUALITY IS GOOD, BUT IT TOOK THEM SIX WEEKS TO GET INSURANCE AND BOND INFORMATION TOGETHER. THEY NEVER CALLED US, WE HAD TO CALL THEM.

DID HAVE CEMENT PAD POURED BECAUSE THERE WAS NO EXISTING STRUCTURE. WE DID HAVE TO HAVE 3 DIFFERENT APPOINTMENTS. ONE FOR CEMENT POURING, THE BUILDING, AND THEN THE ELECTRICIAN. DID NOT HAVE MORE THAN 24 HOURS ADVANCED WARNING OF WHEN APPOINTMENTS WOULD BE BUT THE COMPANY IS A WEATHER RELATED SERVICE.
