ELKO CONSTRUCTION

Things went well at first. The two Elko men were helpful and understanding as I had so many decisions to make regarding the reconstruction. I must say I was in total shock and feel like I made decisions in a fog. As time went on, it became more difficult. I was not happy with the accounting system that was used. They would tell me what Allstate allocated for a specific thing and I had to stay within that or pay the extra cost. However, I never got anything from Allstate telling me what those allocations were. I had to trust Elko. There was major electrical work that had to be done - from fuses to circuit breakers. Problem is, years later, we had some electrical issues, small explosions in the outside meter and I had an electrical co and Com Ed come out. They discovered that there was a short from wire not properly connected as well as none of the electrical was grounded! We had paint peeling the very next year in the first floor water damaged apartment. I had explained that the lathe and plaster that was used in the original construction had too much lime in it and in order to prevent peeling paint you need to use an exterior oil based primer. They did not do that, so the very next year I had peeling paint in three rooms. We now are have some plumbing issues and I need to have the tub drain in the second floor apartment rodded out. However, when Elko did the reconstruction, they did not replace the tub access that was in the linen closet. So they are doing to have to break through the wall in order to access it. Over the years various things have come to light - electrical outlets put in upside down, louvered doors not completely painted, fixtures loose and not flush with the ceiling. It was a very traumatic experience in my life, and I must admit I was not in any condition to check their work to every detail. I don't believe that the City of Chicago inspectors ever came out to examine the work either. However, now I am dealing with the results of their work. I would not recommend them and would not use them again.

I have worked with Elko Construction for 15 years because my Property Insurance Company uses them. I can vouch for the quality of the workmanship and the level of service they provide to the customer. They are a family-run business and they are very hands-on with how they deal with customers. They are pretty tight-knit. 

I had a really bad fire last year and Elko Construction, who is family owned company, came over and built me a brand new house. They tore everything down to the studs and they built everything up from scratch. They were great to help me out with suggestions and they were very knowledgable with their recommendations. They were hardworking, professional and caring! They showed up every day and finished the job before they said they would. They were always there working hard and any time I called them with questions they answered right away. They were clean and cleaned up after themselves. New windows, siding, attic, new instillation, bay windows etc. They even put a switch by my front door to turn on my Christmas lights, and I have never had this before! Everything they did was absolutely amazing, they did it perfect the first time! They are so honest and I wished I could give them a one-thousand and fifty percent. I would highly recommend them to anyone and everyone!
