I'm not sure that we could have made a better choice, either in result or experience, than going with Pavel Hanzel. He is extremely hard-working, meticulous, and trustworthy. We had our bathroom completely redone and felt supported each step of the way. Other places will just quote you the labor, which is fine if you already know your plan, but Pavel provided an initial product suggestion list (with links), which helped out a lot in shopping. He shows up when he says he will and cleans up before he leaves each day. We are very pleased with the quality of the contracted work, but we are also impressed at how often Pavel fixed other problems along the way. For example, he wasn't happy with the wall insulation and replaced it at no cost. While installing the tub, he found a leak in another section of the pipe and just went ahead and fixed that too. He takes the time to do extra coats, touch-ups, and testing, to make sure everything is right. Often, his own standards were higher than mine. With the exception of an electrician (whom he arranged) to do the wiring, Pavel did everything else, which was great because I was concerned about having a bunch of different subcontractors coming through. He offered good suggestions to our questions on other parts of the house. We asked him to change out another bathroom's toilet but to also teach me and he kindly demonstrated the process. He also replaced the baseboards in the living room at what was probably a generous discount. It was a great added bonus that Pavel is a good-natured, professional guy. That certainly helps when someone is in your home for days and weeks. Lastly, I'll just mention that when I accidentally entered in the wrong amount in the payment system, he promptly dropped off a check to cover my overage. Hanzel Construction was excellent right from setting the estimating appointment and all the way through.

I can't say enough good things about him. After interviewing and receiving bids from over 10 contractors, we liked his manner, his timeline, his scope of work, and his price. He knows what he's doing and his work is excellent. He tore down our existing kitchen and removed a wall between kitchen and dining room for a bigger, open kitchen/dining room. Pavel was very experienced with pretty much every aspect of he renovation. His original timeline of when work would be completed was correct. OUR timeline was wrong because cabinetry we ordered was incorrectly by cabinetry company. His design ideas were excellent, he actually picked out our paint when we couldn't decide and we loved his choice, have gotten many compliments on it. He informed us every step of the process, responded immediately to text messages and phone calls. He worked long days when something needed to be finished so something else could be done, for example, getting all walls down, plumbing finished, etc., so wood floors could be put down. More importantly, his original quote stayed the same for the scope of the work he did, which proved to me that he knew what he was getting into with an old house. We had several contractors intimidated by what they would find when they tore down our walls. He offered money saving solutions on several issues that came up and we relied on his opinion for a lot of things we were unsure of. For those that are sticklers to detail, Pavel is your guy! There were certain things that came up like, uneven floor boards, uneven paint detail, trim around the refrigerator (stuff I didn't notice) that he didn't like the look of, so he fixed it on his own. We removed old flooring because it was over 2 inches higher than the rest of the flooring once wall was taken down, once the new flooring was up the doorframes needed to be lowered, well, since the home was built in 1940, the door trim was an odd measurement (thickness), and Pavel was unable to find trim that size. So he used the original trim to go on top of doorway, so it would match the rest of the house, then cut the rest himself so it all matched. Things like that there were little to him but just showed his attention to detail. We plan to continue using his services as projects (and money) become available in our old 1940's home. Bottom line: his work is excellent and he is very honest.
