they were very nice people and it appeared that they did quality work. they also were willing to work with us on allowing us to buy out our own kitchen cabinets and fixtures to save the markup which was great. however, it took a while to get them over to review the space and then several more days to send the proposal (knowing we had to move in to the house and wouldn't have a kitchen until the renno was completed.... microwave and grill in the basement for 6 weeks). We did not go with them because their labor estimate was a little higher and becuase since our project needed to be expedited we were afraid we would not receive the attention we needed to get the project done asap based on their response times. Overall I would consider them again for a project that didn't require as much immediate attention as the kitchen did in our case.

I placed a call for a quote on Saturday and spoke with Tom's wife who was very pleasant and helpful. Tom came by the house the following Monday and walked us through all of the aspects of the project. He was extremely thorough and had some great ideas to minimize costs and make the finished product better for us. We had a very detailed written quote for the project by the end of the day. It was by far the fastest and most thorough quote we received for the project. Tom's pricing was competitive and he offered a rebate if the project was completed ahead of time. The decision was down to two builders - Tom and a recommendation from a friend. It was a really tough decision, but ultimately I felt that the "friendship factor" was important and we chose the other builder. Tom is definitely #1 on my list of builders to consult for my next project. He is thorough, professional, prompt, knowledgeable and honest. This is our third project with Baumson. We originally had them out to do a brick patch and to repair a few damaged stairs discovered after removing carpet. This project was to replace windows in our sunroom, including a custom arched window in the front. We worked with Tom and Kim as well as the Pella rep to determine the best style for our house. They came out and installed as arranged. We initially hit a small snag in the delivery of the trim from the factory (not Baumson's fault), but Tom and Kim kept us updated throughout the process and made sure everything was resolved. We are very happy with how the windows turned out.

I'm having my basement finished and was looking around for estimates. I contacted Baumson Builders based on previous AngiesList reviews and they responded very quickly, came by for a meeting within a few days, and had a comprehensive meeting to go over the details of what I was looking for. The price they quoted was competitive but I didn't wind up moving forward with them for other reasons. Positive experience all around.

My wife and I bought our first house last year (Oct 2012). The house is over 100 year old. We sought out a good contractor to help us navigate potential issues with the house. Baumson Builders has been a great help to us. They took the time to look through the house and provide feedback on projects we've been considering and they were able to identify possible issues that should be addressed. Up to this point, Baumson Builders has replaced corroded lintels framing the brick around two windows. We also removed carpet to restore the hardwood flooring. In doing so, we found the stairs were in need of repair. The repair required access from underneath the staircase which was finished with stucco. The job was done with great quality and the workers were professional and did a great job keeping the work area clean. Our next project is to replace a few windows. Baumson has so far helped us through the process of assess the best windows for our requirements, since we have a custom arched window to replace. They worked with us and their Pella rep to offer possible design suggestions. The windows were just delivered yesterday and they look great. ...I will provide more feedback after the installation is complete.

Baumson replaced a water heater and repaired a large amount of drywall where there were cracks and seams showing. The quality of the repair was excellent and was done in a very timely manner. Tom, the owner, is quick to respond to calls and answers questions thoroughly. Their quotes were among the lowest we received, yet the quality of the work was excellent. Tom, and those performing the work, were always friendly and professional.

I was very happy with work. They were very pleasant and efficient. Great communication on how to solve the problem. The workers were very professional and they did a great install and clean up after the job.

Baumson was recommended to us by a neighbor and worked in conjunction with an architect and a structural engineer hired by us. The planning process took quite a few weeks. Once the plans were approved, he started work immediately. THere were no unexpected issues and the work was completed when he said it would be.

As I have stated above, it went amazingly well; fast, clean, respectful and fair! I would highly recommend Baumson Builders again and again. One should note: This contracting firm has constructed many of my client's projects through the years; has bid their jobs fairly and openly against other builders in the open bid process. He has lost a fair share of the bids and has won a fair share of the bids from my clients, but has always remained professional and respectful. Many of my client's have said to me, after engaging other builders, "we wish that we would have used Baumson Builders." His work is first rate, his people are respectful of the home own and his prices are competitive.

In the past I’ve had them do work in my unit and my home. They’ve done electrical, plumbing, bathroom remodeling for me. They’ve also done tile work in the past. Each time they have worked for me they have offered suggestions that would be benefit to my project and cost saving that would improve the overall result. They provide high quality materials in each case. They do what they say they’re going to do. You don’t have to call them back to have them fix something. In multiple occasions, I’ve never had to call them back. Their prices are always competitive and they are very honest and easy to do business with. Their quality of workmanship is excellent. When they worked in my home and condos, they never leave a mess and clean up very well. They always make their commitments.

They are great and that is why we keep having them back. They are honest and fair. Their contractors are wonderful. They leave the house very clean. They are reliable and do things right.

We had an architect design the new addition for the house. Baumson bid on the work and we liked them from the start. They have excellent workers and employ great subs for the electrical/plumbing work. Tom (owner) suggested that we go with a full basement since we only had to excavate 18 inches than for the footings due to the frost line and slope of the land. A perfect suggestion for which we are very, very grateful. When a load bearing wall was found in the old kitchen area Tom worked with the architect to design a solution which is quite handsome! The kitchen cabinet firm told us they rarely worked with builders who had plumb walls that would let them install cabinets without major adjustments. His subs were excellent and did quality work throughout. We have been very pleased and have used Baumson several times since for other projects. In March, 2005 we had Baumson work on the laundry room. After our new addition was built the doorway to the laundry was changed and the walls moved. The place looked old and "not finished". The old cabinets were removed and the walls were done with new sheetrock. Baumson's crew moved the plumbing for the new washer, added more electrical circuits, and installed the new cabinetry. They also installed the sink and plumbing for it. As always, the job was great! Kim and Tom work well with customers. They are honest, have great contacts, use quality subs, and make sure the work is done to your satisfaction. We have been very pleased to work with them!

My husband and I thought we could handle the remodel of the basement family room ourselves. But in removing the contents of the build in cabinets we discovered rot from water seepage that had occurred over time. We called Baumson to come and help since we were in "over our heads!" Baumson's crew removed the paneling and the old drywall and after the source of the leaks were found and corrected then framed the basement for finishing. This also involved rebuilding a wall to the new basement area and framing out a series of steps to the basement. Baumson's sub for the drywall was wonderful! Their crew returned to install the trim for the doors, windows and baseboards, which we wanted to match the style of the rest of the house and therefore had to be custom built. The whole area looks terrific! We always call Baumson since we know they are quality, honest workers!

The estimate was accurate and no surprises or extra charges. The persons working on the project were good, easy to work with, polite, respectful, knowledgeable, and always cleaned up after themselves everyday. They also communicated very well. We plan on using them in the future (this fall).

From first contact, Tom's wife Kim kept us informed as to what we could expect next as the project moved along. Tom gave us a fair estimate and stuck to budget. Choices are sometimes difficult to make, and they were helpful with the decision making process.

It was fabulous. It is absolutely beautiful. They were precise and strive for perfection. The end result was beautiful on all projects.

When I called Tom, I mentioned that I was hoping for an aggressive deadline (1-1/2 months) for the kitchen in hopes of getting done before a family visit. He was upfront that he would do his best if we could get all the materials ordered and received in good time but couldn't promise. (He was totally right - we weren't even close to making the decisions and getting it done that fast!). He was honest, and we were fine with that coaching. Tom and Kim set an appointment for Tom to come over within a couple days and he showed up promptly. Within 24 hours, he emailed a detailed quote for all labor and supplies required, based on what we had described. He also included a list of references with the quotes. He was extremely professional and pleasant throughout the quote process, and then followed up with us at timely intervals for the next couple of weeks until we had made a decision on a contractor. We went with a different contractor for a couple of reasons, but had no problem with Tom or his quote based on the quality of the work that we understand he does. He sounds like he could easily take a remodeling job, big or small, and do a great job. Quotes: For kitchen $10,200 (His quote was much more detailed this this): Basically, remove old and install new cabinets & trim, move appliances around, take out a 6 foot wall, move electrical, plumbing, etc for all changes. Quote did not include installing backsplashes, flooring, (since we hadn't decided on what type of flooring yet), or installing countertops (usually done by fabricator), nor cost of the cabinets, lighting, countertops, flooring, etc (anything "decorative). For Bathroom $11,200: Quote included removal and install of tub&faucet, toilet, vanity, sinktop, faucet and flooring, removing and replacing walls & tiles around current tub. This quote included $3000 for what I call the "decorative" parts, plus including the supplies, labor, etc. For the level and detail of work we heard that he does, this seemed an appropriate, although somewhat highend cost. You get the service you pay for.

We had a terrific experience with Baumson. Baumson held to its estimate, owner extras were fairly priced, and the communication was excellent. The job had sufficient staffing to be completed on time and was in fact completed on time. We never had any surprises that were Baumson's fault. Baumson also made excellent suggestions for any issues that did arise (for example, with a buried electrical cable that JULIE mislocated and the excavator accidently dug up). We will use Baumson again.

On time, work done within estimate, work done well, reasonably priced & very responsive.

His crew very friendly and capable; any work subcontracted was generally a disappointment. The subcontractors were usually late or didn't show when scheduled.

WITHIN A WEEK OF OUR INITIAL CALL WE HAD WORKERS OUT TO OUR HOUSE TO DO THE WORK. THEIR PROFESSIONALISM WAS GREAT -THEY TOOK EXTRA EFFORT TO PROTECT OUR CARPET & CLEANED UP AFTER THEMSELVES, TAKING ALL THE ROTTED WOOD WITH THEM WHEN THE JOB WAS DONE.
