If I had an option of less than 1 star, I would have chose that option. We will NEVER return. I put the photos on media of what happened to our dog and had two attorneys reach out because he went in with food poisoning and left with a black/swollen bloody eye with a possible mild concussion. I would post pictures here if I could because he looked awful. Our Chiweenie Romeo ate almost 7oz of chocolate and was rushed to animal emergency. After being in the hospital 45 mins the tech came out with Romeo still in his kennel and requested assistance in getting him out because he was resisting/growling. I sat the kennel on the ground and he easily came out. Romeo sat in the car with me to calm down and I placed the issued muzzle on him so the tech's were not hesitant to handle him during assessment. They were very communicative, calm and helpful because they understood the chihuahua demeanor on top of him being terrified. He was admitted and sometime through the night, had a new ball muzzle put on so he could vomit and open his mouth while still protecting the staff from potential issues. Romeo had the ball muzzle on through the time we picked him up because the staff had my husband and I take it off of him at pick up. The next day, I received a call back from the doctor stating we could pick him up at 5pm. He was doing much better with a little concern about his BP and heart rate. The doc stated how scared he was and how he hated it there and he would further better recover at home. Pick up was set for 5pm and all was well until I received another call almost immediately after that Romeo hit his head, had a black eye, and a possible concussion. The first call was at 4 and the second call about the injury was at 4:15. The call tone changed from him hating it there and being scared to him being an unruly and caused the injury. Basically feel we went from concern to irritation. We immediately left to go pick him up. Because it was originally said they were removing the IV, I asked if he fell off a table or what happened. Outside the office it was said he was resisting getting out of the cage and rolling around pulling against the leash. Rolling around resulted in him hitting his face/head on the floor resulting in the injury...mind you, he is still muzzled. I am very unsettled because: a. I authorized any sedative needed to keep him calm which was given last night so he could have it today too if the issue was that severe. b. He had a muzzle on so why the struggle, why was he just not picked up from inside the cage? c. He has played with other dogs and ran into things or fallen from something. He has never had an injury that resulted in this trauma, my opinion is he hit something pretty darn hard for this to happen. d. I didn't like that the story went from sympathetic of his temperament and being scared to this unruly problem.....while wearing a muzzle and only being the size of a small football. e. During pick up, the vet stated it was written in the papers Romeo bit me while I was handling him in the car to drop off and he did not in any way. He was feeling awful and wanted to curl in a small ball under the seat but didn't ever snap or bite. The evening techs were great and had me at a high level of comfort so I don't see why that would be written. Don't get me wrong...he doesn't like anyone in his face and he will growl/snap at people he doesn't know. He is a timid dog we don't take around kids because they all want to play with him like a toy and he doesn't like that. He is always leashed in public, etc. He is part chihuahua, some are great but that is not what they are know for so it's not a surprise to behave a certain way. Because his eye was still bleeding the vet recommended a few stitches. He would have to be sedated but they didn't want to put him back in a cage so if we did this I offered to set in the car with him through the process until they took him in and brought him out avoiding any cages. This was followed with a $600 to $800 quote for the procedure to correct this injury that happened under their care in their office! I do not feel like he hit his face resisting getting out of a cage or if he did, it had to be a pretty extreme....what was happening to hit this hard? I do not feel as if I should have been responsible for compensating the stitches/procedure or at least having to compensate the full amount. I took him into the emergency hospital for chocolate poisoning and he left with a black bleeding eye and possible concussion. We did not receive one apology or any sense of ownership on this from the staff. The concern was all about overpriced services. We left without further procedure and following up with our vet. Our current vet office is crazy good with him so if he needs a procedure, it will be be there.

is is the worst place to take your pet, I would have given them a zero. After calling our regular vets number, which recommended this place for emergencies. My wife called they said bring the animal in immediately. We were quoted $1000.00 - $1600.00 for the care. My wife took Rosie in and the people were rude. The following day my wife called 4 times to get an update on the Rosie, the vet said I don't know what your worried about Mrs. Davis you have $9.000.00 available on your Care Credit. My wife could not believe what she heard called our other Vet in Washington, Mo and they said that you need to get your animal out of that place. My wife went and picked up Rosie and transported her to Washington, Mo. the Dr. telephoned my wife the next day, he told use that Hawthorne ran test on Rosie that are not even used anymore and charged us $150.00 per test. Hawthorne said Rosie had Lepto, washington, Mo said that is the last thing they would consider. The x-rays from Hawthorne were not readable in Washington, Mo, so we had to get another set taken. People if you love your animal do not take them to Hawthorne, crooks is what you will find there. I am contacting a lawyer to inquire on malfeasance by the Hospital. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE.

Boarded dogs at Hawthorne for 7 years. the last 3 years customer service to me has been getting worse. This last time was the worst. Could not get consistent answers on if my dogs were eating. One dog had a sore on paw and I expressly asked for it to be bandaged. I was send a picture and it was not bandaged. Asked twice for management to give me a call and no one ever did.

I have been going to Hawthorne for seven years and have never had a bad experience. Dr. Simms is wonderful. I can't say enough about her. She is caring, friendly, very knowledgeable, and treats your pet as if it were her own. Although Hawthorne may be slightly more expensive than other area pet hospitals, it is well worth it. The entire staff is warm and welcoming and dedicated to making your visit as pleasant as possible.

They are an awesome place. They have been helpful and friendly. My dogs is alive today because of them. I used them for daycare and medical needs. My dog has to be with someone almost 24 hours a day so they take care of her when I'm out of town and when my grand kids are in town.

I initially took my dog to Hawthorne Animal Hospital for a just teeth cleaning service but they called me later to tell me that they were going to have to extract four teeth. My dog’s breath was awful and we all knew that something was wrong. My vet had informed me that we might have to get one tooth extracted. However she called back and told me that there were three small teeth that were very loose. We were all surprised because my dog goes regularly to the vet. I anticipated spending lots of money after that phone call but it was very reasonable. I’m feeling very good about Hawthorne Hospital right now. I have an unusual breed of dog and I’m very happy that Hawthorne Hospital brought in a vet who has experience with this breed of dog. I’m happy that they are a 24-hour facility.

This is the second time that we have taken in our of our cats for something that appeared minor, but should be looked at to be sure. When seen by the vet they immediately recommended another procedure. In this case it was a heart sonogram to see if he had heart issues and of course a bunch of blood testing. Before this it was an eye infection that then they sent me to a specialist in St. Louis. In both cases, after more than $1000.00 in expense turned out to be nothing. Seems like it is common for them to take advantage of the concerned owner rather than common sense veterianary work. Once bitten . . . . twice . . . time to find a new vet.

Now that our dog has been diagnosed with a chronic condition and we have found a medicine combination that works well for her, anytime she has a relapse, Dr. Davis just calls in the meds and we stop in to pick them up - she doesn't require us to bring the dog in EVERY time we deal with a flare-up. We are so grateful for this - our dog is part of our family but, let's face it, who wants to pay 6-8 times per year to see a vet for the exact same problem?! Also, this clinic is a 24 hour emergency clinic - thankfully, we've never had to use their emergency services but it's nice to know they're there. And they also have kennel facilities. They're perfectly adequate (not plush but comfy enough for a few days here and there) and it's nice to know that there are trained medical people nearby if my dog has a relapse. Another thing, i usually have to wait anywhere from 10 to 25 minutes past my appt. time to see the inital vet tech and then another 5 to 15 minutes to see the vet. This is rather annoying, i must admit, but on the other hand, when you are finally in that exam room - they will take as much time as you need. They listen well and are very throrough. So, the wait is worth it to feel like you are being heard and that someone is taking the time to be thorough and caring with your pet.
