This turned out to be a very frustrating experience. The realtor I used and the buyer's realtor were both from this same Remax office. The house had been mostly remodeled but quite a few of the floors still needed to be finished (carpet, tile,etc.). We had allowed for a flooring allowance in the asking price. The couple who bought the house got a VA Loan so the floors had to be finished before they would finalize the loan. I agreed to pay for the flooring which was negotiated in the price. The buyers got the measurements and picked out the flooring with my approval. Carpetland was to install the floors and the realtor was going to provide them with a key. The buyers asked to paint a stairway and stain a floor and I gave my approval. 24 hours before the closing, which had been set for at least 10 days, the realtor called and said it was going to be delayed because the VA needed more pictures for the loan. This was unacceptable as we had rearranged vacation and work schedules to accomodate this date. It was finally agreed that we could still sign the papers on the February 6th and the buyers would sign on February 8th. The original purchase agreement said the final closing would be by January 30th and this was never amended in any way. Since the closing was delayed the buyers had also asked to have a washer and dryer delivered on Feb, 6th which I agreed to. On the way to our part of the closing we stopped by the house to take a look at the new flooring. The buyers were there. The garage was standing wide open with the stove and refrigerator in it (which were part of the purchase agreement) . They told us they were also having a new stove and refrigerator delivered also which had not been asked. We went into the house and they had taken a kitchen cabinet down and painting a wall because the new refrigerator wouldn't fit. While we were walking around the house we opened a closet and the inside had been completely redone. Evidently the buyers were given keys to the house before the closing and they came and went as they pleased. THIS WAS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. I don't know which realtor of if both were at fault here but that should have never happened. We asked our realtor about this had he said he was unaware what was going on and said he would go retrieve the keys and not give them back until Feb. 8th. A couple of hours later we drove by the house again and the buyers were still there. I called my realtor and he said instead of him going and getting the keys, they were going to bring them to him. ONCE AGAIN TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. He called about 1/2 hour later and said he had the keys. Things didn't go well from the start. I called into the office and left a message on my realtor's voice mail and didn't get a call back. They attributed it to a new phone system. My realtor said he would put signs out along the road at a couple of different places and they were only at one intersection so I had to ask about that. He said he would have an open house in the first couple of weeks it was listed and that didn't happen either. The only positive comment I have is at least all of the inspections were taken care of and done on time. The housing market in this area is not good so I just wanted to get the house sold and was very glad when the whole process was over. I thought it would be a time to celebrate but I was so frustrated with the whole ordeal that it was just a relief.
Description of Work: Listed a house for sale in late July with Remax. We had moved 90 miles away and wanted the realtor to handle all of the details for us.
